The 80's WERE fuckin' rad. I was a teenager in 1980, and was able to personally experience it, not shop at ironic vintage boutiques and live on someone else's memories.

Anyone under 30 who personally references the 80's has about as much business doing that as me referencing the 1960's.

If you're born in 85 and your love of the 80s comes from how funny it is to wear an Alf t-shirt or talk about how awesome that load of garbage The Breakfast Club is or mentioning Pac-Man because it's so 80s, that's what I despise.

That being said, the 1980s sucked.

And that's why I hate Family Guy. Same, repetitive "pop culture" references over and over again in an attempt to be funny because it's so funny to talk about a TV show from 82. Oh how hilarious McFarlane.

I had a great time in the 80's. I remember when there was an actual local music scene, and herpes was the thing you were afraid of catching.

I like the 80's because there are so many fun punk and new wave memories for me. I did not even watch any TV at all from 1982-85, because there was so much to do.

There were people my age who dressed and acted like Hippies from the 60's, and it pissed me off the same way fake 80's nostalgia does for me today.

The only good I can imagine from the 80s (I'm 23) is that that was really the last time before everything ended up corporatized. I mean business was booming but it was before every little bit of our lives were monopolized by corporations. It seems like it was the last time people were able to do things without being constantly monitored. That and the greed. And the coke. Delicious, delicious coke.

Liddy made a great point about someone in their early 20's thinking a decade they are only connected to by year of birth is great, is a very silly thing indeed.

You have a kid's memories form the 80's. There is nothing wrong with remembering the Atari Force or Lazer Tag cartoons, but someone your age can't have the kinds of memories other 20-somethings reference from the 80's, like wearing a Dead Kennedys t-shirt (the band has not really existed since 1985), knowing what the bar scene was like, seeing huge chunks of your paycheck disappear, the Challenger disaster, and seeing Reagan say "Mr. Grobachev, tear down that wall" on live TV. There are people your age who reference memories like this without having a clue what it's about.
