I am so glad that 24 will continue!

Sutherland 'signs up for more 24'

Kiefer Sutherland will star in three more series of hit drama 24, according to Variety and Hollywood Reporter.

The actor has starred as government agent Jack Bauer for five seasons of the Fox show.

The show was considered groundbreaking when it first aired in 2001 as it was screened in "real time" with one day spread over 24 episodes.

The new deal will see Sutherland paid a reported $40m (£22.9m). He will also be an executive producer of the series.

Sutherland said his past five years on the show was "one of the most creative and rewarding experiences of my career".

Big-screen thriller

The deal will also allow the actor to develop new projects for TV and the internet through his own production company.

Sutherland, who rose to fame in films such as the 1987 teenage vampire film The Lost Boys, also starred in the movie Flatliners with his former fiancee Julia Roberts and in legal drama A Few Good Men.

His performance in 24 won him a Golden Globe award in 2002 and he has also been nominated for four Emmys.

Sutherland's next big-screen outing will be in crime thriller The Sentinel, opposite Michael Douglas and Kim Basinger.

He is also voicing a character in Disney's latest cartoon feature, The Wild, where he plays a lion called Samson.

kick ass, three more years of Jack Bauer screaming "Tell me what you know!" in people's faces and shooting their wives.

I love the show but I dont know if I could see an 8th or even 7th season. I dont want this show to get to that point where shows just become a mockery of themselves.
I also am willing to think this is a BS article that was planted by the 24 people to throw off the rumors that Jack will die before seasons end.

As much as I love 24, I definitely think and believe this will be the last season. I don't see how you could top this season. And I agree with Perch, I don't want to see the show become a mockery of itself. It should end this season, hopefully with a happy ending. But would not be suprised if they kill off Jack.

the show is already a joke, the 1st season owned and all the rest have been so-so - better than most stuff on tv but nowhere near as good as season1. if they wanted to do something cool they should do the whole show on foregin soil w/ a terrorist plot or whatever all mission/splinter cell like. or something with an alien invasion and make it actually cool - sorta like independence day meets 24 without that fag will smith. anything original, not just another same old terrorist plot, so boring. sleeper cell was so much better than the last 4 seasons of 24.

Its definitely coming back for one more year. Fox signed a 2 year extension after season 4 to keep NBC from stealing the show. I hope this news isnt a red herring because I think Jack Bauer is one of the best characters on TV.

Really, where do you go after you take down the President?

Fox 5 here in New York reported the story as fact.
Horray for Jack Bauer. Bow to him when you see this week's Rolling Stone.

Oh, there's always new ways to terrorize.
as long as there's terrorism, 24's gonna be in business.

They do need to change it up a bit. I don't know if this would be cheesy/John McClaine-ish but I'd like to see a season take place in NYC or DC. Jack could be on vacation or assignment or a conference or detail there. Enough with LA.

Since they killed off just about every character connected with LA, it might be a good time for Jack to move.

Long story arcs rarely work; especially across many seasons.

long story arcs work well with a good team of writers.... look at farscape, the shield, (new) battlestar galactica etc.

He turns 40 in December. That makes him eligible for Presidency. Watch out folks, Jack Bauer will find a way to be President before it is all said and done!

3 more years of Jack! Awesome.
