I don't really feel the need to see the O&A-era WNEW reestablished; other than the AFRO, there's nothing about that era that WNEW/CBS has anything to be proud of.

However, I consider the "Free FM" label to be severely damaged goods, a true mark of kwaliti. They should just dump it and rename it all "CBS Talk Radio" or "CBS Hot Talk" or somesuch. Even better, stop trying to give a brand name at all to a completely random clusterfuck of unrelated shows that have no chemistry or flow into each other besides O&A. Just let each show be its own show and use the local stations' call letters.

I loved O&A on WNEW, but WNEW as a whole was the crappiest of crappy stations. R&F were of course enjoyable, but outside of them and Ferrall (and Trunk & Wease on the weekends), wasn't a damn thing remotely listenable.

The only other thing I enjoyed about 'NEW and all its shittiness was O&A admitting on-air that it was a shithole, and how they felt like they were on an island there. I really don't want that this time around, I want everything to be good & glorious. But we all know that's not gonna happen...

I hope R&F get some serious shine as things unfold..I love the bboys but have gained a fuller understanding of R & F and am really starting to get them, the show with Linyea and Johnna Bobo [sic?] was priceless....sparkle pony, pretend radio, Paul-O and his wacky bitch wife.....Fezzy has been really strong of late too!!

I only know R&F from XM and let me say this, thanks for coming to XM. I love their show. I don't know if I will like their show when it meets FCC guidelines. For those of you who go way back with them, can you tell me if it was the same as it is on XM?

For one thing, the bit with the barnyard videos, and Earl and Fez puking, no way that hits Free FM. I think they will still be funny, Ron kills, but certain subjects just wouldn't be the same. Example Paul's crazy ass wife screaming obscenities while he is doing his movie reviews. That gets dumped on Free FM.

Please bring me up to speed.

Ron and Fez aren't that much different from the WNEW show from the few times I got to hear the old show.

The main difference will be:

XM: "I'm fuckin' starving, we have any (insert food name here)"

cbs: "I'm starving....etc"

They can do even more of what they do than O&A I think.

Thanks for the info. I get the feeling that sometimes they drop a few F- bombs just because they can. I do believe that the majority of their show could be aired on Free FM everyday. But if they still cover the same topics, I am a happy camper.

Only difference with ron and fez now is the fact they curse, other than that it's the same show. Just as good now as it was on Wnew, not better not worse. I can't give a specific instance but I recall either mon. or tues. they were hinting at something just alot less obvious then OnA, anyone else remember this or am I losing it?

ron and fez are a great show. thats all i can really say as a fan. high voltage has really become a touchstone as the old syndicated guy talk i got in OR when it was OnA then DnM and RnF late nite. if xm has syndication plans then they should look at WNEW as the blue print. i know a lot of people think don and mike should fucking go drown somewhere but they were decent enough to be midday unless lazlow or somebody else stepped up. though maybe there is 202 only for OnA and 152 becomes cbs free f(x)m with ona morning rnf afternoon and whoever whenever else. with maybe 203 the live feed from the krock studios.
but thats a guess

I personally hated Don and Mike. Every time I turned them on they had Don's wife on and it was just horrible. Then they did Fumpkin Pucking and realized how shitty and unoriginal they are and never listened again. The reason they were thrown off Wnew is they demanded OnA's afternoon spot. They felt their horrible NY ratings were the fault of them being on at nights. OnA had huge ratings they had nothing and they had the stupid idea that they could muscle OnA out to nights. Wnew decided to move them to middays and put Ron and Fez in the night spot instead and when they bashed the station, ron and fez, and OnA they were fired. So in the end they were forever tossed from the largest market in the country. Goodbye Don and Mike Goodbye forever.

No, Don and Mike were awful. When it was Stern, D&M then O&A, I tried to leave my radio on all day and listen, it got to the point that I'd turn it off after Hoo Hoo and not turn it back on until 3. The were terrible even as background noise.

No way Don and Mike come back. I don't think the boys would want them to follow. Besides I think FREE FM likes JV and Elvis. I can't say that I do, but they seem to like them. They should rename FREEM FM, 92.3 The Virus. Get it right this time.

I think its a bad move for Booker. I didn't hate his show, but does he really think he'll be able to get any rating in Philly, where there is a hardcore OnA following. Considering Booker tries to do the same type of show. He should have stayed put. Bad move.

Booker was CBS' attempt at a poor-man's O&A, obviously nothing beats having the real thing. Best part of Booker's "career" in NYC radio was when he lost his morning gig and his chick/co-host in the same week!!!
