Can someone help me out? I listen on Audible. Today, there's a five hour 5/24 Encore Edition. I'm trying to find the announcement, but it seems like everything's best of... I probably sound like an asshole right now, but can someone explain real quick for me whether it was all best of... today or what?

Thanks.

I'm right there with you. I just got home and am trying to figure everything out also, this is going to blow if we don't get the FM broadcast on Audible. There's a thread on here saying it's up to XM what's going to put on Audible is how I read it. Looks like I might need to figure out another way to get it.

Fucking bullshit. They say they don't know whether they're going to carry it or not yet. If they decide to carry it, they'll eventually put the shows up from this week. If they decide not to carry it, you won't be able to get this week's shows and they'll send an e-mail explaining how to make good on subscription costs. I know they're going to try to offer credit or something, which would totally suck.

Holy shit that fucking sucks! One of the biggest days for O&A and I won't get to hear it, I have a feeling Audible is pretty far down on the list for XM but it looks like it's up to them.

Todays show sucked anyways. The levels were weird, they were uncomfortable, it wasn't a real show anyways, there were only 1 1/2 hours of live show, lots of talk about what will happen, etc. Kind of like your first day of school when absolutely nothing gets done except papers get handed out and your teachers talk about themselves.

to the audible listeners...do you have an xm? or do you just buy the shows on audible? don't you think it'd make more sense economically if you purchase an XM?

I listened on XM online at work since October, and had also signed on to an audible subscription service separately to get audiobooks - when the bbbboys came on audible, I just use one of my credits (1 book and 1 subscription program for $14/mo) for O&A and one for a random book I want. I don't have a car (live downtown), but do have an ipod - so I can listen, pause and rewind stuff I miss, avoid the commercials, and archive shit to listen to for the weekends / when they're not on. If the new portables allow those kinds of features, then I may switch - depends on the price point of the portables. Hey - I was a poor student until 6 months ago, I'm doing what I can to support the bbboys and not leech - plus newsgroups are just too much of a pain in the ass for me to bother with on a regular basis - I like the plug and go convenience that audible / itunes provides. the only suckage is waiting until 5pm or so every day to get the audio for that day - if there's big news then it's delayed satisfaction. I'm annoyed today's show is not on, now I gotta hunt it down. :P I signed up for XM online again to hear it, but the feed crapped out on me, prolly server load due to buzz, so I had to hunt down a terrestrial radio in my house to hear it. :)

I use audible cause I work nights and I have to leave the car on a regular basis so it was so much easier to be able to pause it. I dont want to loose the audible download. I love it. I can also listine to it when I am at home and on the computer late at night when I am not working. This really sucks. I just want to know if there was a show or not.

Audible gets the main file from XM, possible from washington or someone that works for the show. So we need to blame XM for this.

I have another thread about them getting the full 6 hours where this came to light.

Any of you guys playing these files on your computer and missing the last few minutes? Audible has admitted to me its a known issue and they can't fix it so I'm trying to get XM to tack on 3 minutes of blank audio to the end on the new 6 hour shows before they send it to audible.

sclone
04-25-2006, 09:01 AM
I've never had a problem with the last few minutes cutting off (unless you're only talking about yesterday's "encore" which I haven't listened to...

As to those wondering why someone would have audible instead of XM - I would never listen to any of the music stations, so I don't want to waste a bunch of money on a receiver and then $13 a month. And I got a year subscription to o+a on audible for $35 - less than 3 months subscription to XM, so I'm good...

codeseven
04-25-2006, 09:09 AM
I havent had probles with cut off either. But yes the last one on the 24th was cut off. I agree. I have been with audible for over 2 years and get a good deal. I never listined to any outher channels but 202 and I would miss parts of the show and have to listine to parts over again to ge the missaing parts so having a resording of it that I could pause on my ipod was great. I am still a huge O&A fan and never miss an episode. I also have paid for all the best of on audible. If this is going away and there is a new place to get it we need to know about it. I want the whole show also.

I have XM (3 radios) and I subscribe to Audible. In my line of work I can't listen to the shows live most of the time, and frequently even the replays are at inconvenient times or I'm not in an area where even an XM portable unit (which I don't have and don't really want) would do me any good.

For instance... I've spent 5 weeks this year in China. Thanks to Audible, I never missed a show and can listen at my leisure during the frequent down-times at work. The iPod/Audible combination is indispensable to me, and if we Audible users don't get the WHOLE show, I'm going to be seriously pissed off.

I'll reserve judgment until such time as I see what they're planning on doing.

Logically, you would think that audible.com would provide the WHOLE OA show on the simple fact that XM is simulcating to CBS. So XM owns the 6 hr show.

I called Audible and they said it might just take a little longer, but they're still carrying it and they haven't said anything about not carrying it. Plus, if you think about it, it's a six hour show it'll take a while to edit all that tape.

I would think, NO.

It is being simulcast on XM and re-broadcast on XM whenever XM feels like it.

So I would think that they could still put it up on audible.com

But it's still not there.

I have the Virus so bad that I have both, I live in the west coast & its hard to hear the show live & the replay is during work hours. I love to hear the show thur audible cause the commercials are gone & a 4 hour show is only 3 1/2 on audible.

Thanks for contacting Audible.

I do apologize for the inconvenience. We are aware of the issue at hand. This
has occurred due to the fact that we were trying to offer the 5 hour show rather
than the 3 hours you usually get. This actually caused an error to happen with
today's show. We are trying to fix this issue as soon as possible. Just remember
in the long run, your going to get more of the show very soon.

Have a nice weekend.

Thank you for contacting Audible.com. There was some sort of glitch yesterday in
which XM only sent us the CBS hours. We're still not sure why, but I'd chalk it
up to first-week gremlins as the XM folks had to deal with their new reality.
Also for those interested, yes, we are supposed to be getting all of it - the
