My original thought was that the XM show was going to be a little longer so that CBS could edit it and play what they wanted. That would have been great, but what they did was better.
1) The XM show won't be watered down. Now they don't have to worry about making sure they don't curse too much during a good discussion so that there is enough to put on the air. They can just sit and do the commercial radio show, then when they want to go deeper into the subjects, or they want do describe something off color, they can. Can you say radio tease? And we with XM are going to get all the good stuff.
2) The XM show to me was always more 'intimate' than the commercial radio show. Now we get the best of both worlds. I think that the XM show may even become more intimate, because the contrast of commercial radio against it will make us all feel more special. No we get the good old show we love, and we get the benifit's to the show that more listeners will bring.
3) More listeners for both platforms. That is commercial and XM. The commercial radio crowd will have do deal with the teases over the commercials, and some tease that they can never fullfil unless they get XM. Think "Well, Marey Carey wants to do the wiffle ball bat challenge...lets go to XM!" More listeners means more prizes, bigger contests, dirtier girls.
4) I just want to add that OnA have NEVER betrayed thier core listeners. We are the people that listen to every show and all of every show. The company makes more money of casual listener's because there are more of them, and they listen to the commercials too. So we are not all necessarily bringing the money in, but they still make sure we feel special.

Sorry, I just don't see the benefit for XM subscribers. I understand that they are doing this to pick up old O&A and Stern fans that don't want to pay for satellite but, I feel like the currant XM subscribers are getting ripped. Why would someone want to watch Scarface, censored, on TBS when, they're paying for HBO. I thought the same as Angry Fetus, that they would just edit the show for CBS. Seems like that makes more sence. I hope I'm wrong and I'll give it a chance but, right now I'm feeling let down.

Audible.com listeners might not win. Still to be determined... Might have to pony up and pay for XM after all...
And before someone asks, I'm only paying $35 for the year, not $2.99 per show...

I think you mean ant will be transported in his hypobolic chamber via truck so he doesn't have to be infected by all the outside dirty air. This is totally off subject but I imagine Ants bedroom being surrounded by about 16 of those Ionic Breeze air filters.
I think this CBS move is going to be great for the show and the fact that they are packing up and walking over to XM every day is just a little sign about how they are going out of there way to keep the paid for fans happy.

I too feel let down, only because I was paying for 4 hours of uncensored O&A. I'm certainly not going to stop listening, and I guess I'll just have to adapt. I used to listen to the old WNEW show when they were syndicated to DC, and it was pretty damn funny without the cursing, but the FCC wasn't as tough then as it is now. I feel I should trust O&A, but when they get as big as Stern was (and they will) will they also opt for the paycheck, and go to CBS fulltime at the expense of the XM listeners? I'm also wondering too how long they are going to want to do a 6 hour day, considering how much they bitch about a 4 hour day now. There is also the hassle of 2 different studios, and on, and on. I'm hanging in there though, and I hope a year from now I'll have laughed these worries away. The only thing to me that would be unforgiveable is when Jimmy leaves (as he eventually will) that they replace him with a hole. Remember, the thought of them returning to terrestial radio was pretty unthinkable at one time too !!

1) The XM show won't be watered down.
I doubt the big subjects will be impacted, they can always just schedule the Superball challenge for the XM show. It's all the little things, like cursewords, or really heinous and evil Jimmy jokes that will lose out.
If you recall, they had a hard time adjusting to XM's freedom to allow them to curse at the beginning, and they've only slowly started using "fuck" instead of "eff". Now, they'll have to constantly remind themselves as to which show they're on and I think it's likely they'll subconsciously err on the side of caution and just not curse at all. Is that a loss to the show? I think so.
2) The XM show to me was always more 'intimate' than the commercial radio show. Now we get the best of both worlds.
There is no best to terrestial radio. That's why I got XM in the first place.
I know the boys say don't worry about the commercials for now because they haven't sold any, but that's only temporary, and soon it'll be long ass commercial breaks every hour, with a loss in not just quality, but quantity.
More listeners means more prizes, bigger contests, dirtier girls.
Great, more hacky radio. "The 92nd caller gets a set of Bon Jovi tickets!!!"
4) I just want to add that OnA have NEVER betrayed thier core listeners.
I don't know that I'd go so far as to call it a betrayal, it's just their next step with a new show, which is a by-product of their desire for more exposure. If popularity is more important than quality to them, so be it. They're still going to be better than Stern and I'll listen, but I'll miss the days of free-form rambling on XM.

Correction: O&A, XM, and CBS are winners, as are the CBS listeners. XM listeners could very well be in trouble with this. I don't mean from an entertainment standpoint; the boys have been funny on regular radio in the past and will be again. However, myself, like a lot of people, bought XM for one reason only: O&A. Even when they were a premium tiered channel, I was more than happy to pay for them. Because of what I was getting. For about $13.00 a month, I was getting 20 hours per week of exculsive, XM O&A content. Now, the exclusive XM content is being cut in half, and the price is remaining the same. That is not to say I don't listen to the music channels from time to time, but I would be perfectly fine with the music on my iPod. We're going to essentially get half the content for the same price, and personally, no matter how funny the regular radio show is, I think that stinks and I don't like it.

Does anyone know the plan for replays? Can't find info. Yesterday was best of during replay time. Is that the future plan? If so, sucks for me. I can only catch a bit of the morning show. I listen to R&F, then O&A. I'd still keep XM for R&F plus best of. But it would really blow. I'd feel ripped. But who cares if I still pay right? Hope that's not the case. Anyone know?

I don't feel I am losing out on XM at all. I will be able to listen to the boys uncensored, and I still get the other hundred or so channels of XM. They have great trance, and XM Chill is great. I personally prefer my XM over TV. With XM, whenever I have people over I know I have SOMETHING for background noise.
I really don't think terrestrial radio was EVER off the table for the boys. They said things on the radio, yes, but that could have been early contract negotiation.
We are getting less XM show, I agree and understand, but I don't feel betrayed. I think of it like we got to be there from the beginning of version 3.0. I think we are now up to like 3.2b. We got to hear them stumble, and I personally will never forget that first winter with them. Waking up before the sun came out with some coffee. It was cold and bitter, and it fit the pogram, as it was in its early stages.
I have enjoyed at least 2 hours of every show they ever put out. Most of the time I enjoy the whole thing. What they called crappy radio when they started on XM was great as far as I am concerned. I paid and will continue to pay for XM.
Opie is a genius. This is not ass kissing, it is true. He has focused himself into radio for most of his life, so he is almost a savante. I guarantee he knows how we feel. He probably knew we would feel this way before terrestrial radio was even a possibility. He will make sure it's worth it to us.
It's also only good business for them to do better radio on XM than on Free FM. It's not that they will hold back, it's just that when you have a free show and a pay show, you will want more people to pay than listen for free. It follows that the best things will be saved for XM. Besides the FCC rules, it's just better.
I met Opie on Friday Oct 1, right before they came onto XM. Opie was just standing outside as I was leaving, and I was able to walk up and chat with him and shake his hand. These guys are just guys like us. They need and want guys like us as listeners.

Yea, the "uncensored" show is getting cut back, but with the added exposure, I'm looking forward to 2 WAY more gooder hours. The much larger local audience should make a lot of contest bits better. I think we'll see a lot of things like the 55gal challenge, and Mommy, what would you do for XXXXX tickets.
I can't wait.

I think that O&A can put on a great show even without cursing and without cutting the content, too much. It's just, Lil' Jimmies comments like, "kick the fat bitch in the cunt" make the show that much gooder. I also worry that, as O&A get bigger and get more attention, the FCC will start paying more attention to them, as well.
I hope the first worst-of that gets played over the airways, is the show where they rip on free-fm and their stupid fuckin free fm commertials.:icon_mrgr

I really agree with this statement. Opie can always see a few steps ahead of how we will react. He mentioned today that XM really has to be smart about what they put on when the free fm commercials play because that is going to be a big sticking point for the XM fans... I just don't know if playing old WNEW bits is the answer though.
Why can't the XM listeners just listen in on the breaks the way the paltalk people do sometimes? I'd rather hear that than hear Lady Di and Marion at the VMAs from five years ago.

I think it is a win win situation for XM subscribers. We are going to get more of the boys, a lot of the old school stuff from the NEW days being played on best of's and during commercial breaks. I know a lot of that stuff is available on different websites, but honestly, I just dont have the time to go searching and would rather be suprised hearing it during a show. Plus xm replays of the cbs feed in the afternoon and into the night.

Wait a second! Does this mean we, the XM-loyal, will have to lower ourselves to listen to terrestrial radio commercials for the first three hours of the show? I thought the boys have spent the last two years saying: "Fuck terrestrial radio?"
Also, I (just) bought the Audible.com subscription for OnA so I don't have to suffer Ron&Fez during my lunch break...I wonder how the new deal affects that? Punchin' out.

I agree. Although I do think its a great move for O&A, XM and CBS.....my main issue is going to be the commercial breaks during the CBS show...what are the XM people going to be listening to..
and I don't want to hear the CBS show both going to work (between 7:30-8:30) and coming home from work (4:30-5:30)..I don't know the replay schedule...but I think they should play the XM version from 4-6

theres always a postive and negative view u can see.
I think its most likely they willmake the show the best of both worlds. the old new show with a huge fanbase, lots of debauchery, lots of media attention. then the XM show where after 3 hours of clean radio, they can spew out any venom they have.
maybe the one show with two different styles will keep the show fresh. maybe not. but Ive got confidence they will make it work.
their brains never stop thinking about how to make the show better. and they are fucking good at it.

The question of commercials has been discussed. They plan on playing old bits. They can play uncensored bits for us on XM. Maybe old XM bits, some old WNEW bits.
I would be willing to bet that eventually...probably after a year of being 'good bbbboys' they will be in one studio. Then they can keep talking on XM during the commercials. They can tell us what they really think...

I think that if we the XM listeners didn't have to listen to crap during the breaks we would be much happier. I don't want to listen to "Best Of" stuff when I don't have to. They always said they would only do this if they could do it their way. I can't believe they want us to listen to a lot of "best of crap". Even if it's old WNEW stuff, let's leave that for when they are really off.
I have been listening since WNEW and I paid the extra $ when they came on XM. I don't think it's asking to much to give a little somethng back to the XM people. We all want to see them fow and get bigger and better, but we all know what's going to happen when they start selling a bunch of spots. They will loose control of the breaks. Free FM has to find a way to pay them and make money somehow. It would be nice to hear them come on and take care of the breaks.
