Fans Speak, DIRECTV Listens, XM's Opie & Anthony Return to DIRECTV Programming Lineup
EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2006--In response to numerous requests from fans of the "Opie & Anthony" show, a popular program on XM Satellite Radio's High Voltage XL channel, DIRECTV has returned the channel to its XM lineup. DIRECTV had removed the channel last week in an effort to move its XM radio service to a 100 percent commercial-free music format.
High Voltage XL is now available on XM channel 879 for customers who subscribe to the DIRECTV TOTAL CHOICE(R) PLUS or TOTAL CHOICE(R) PREMIER package.
In addition to XM's exclusive Opie & Anthony show, DIRECTV will also broadcast a new three-hour version of the Opie & Anthony show airing on CBS and simulcast uncensored on XM.
"The uproar from fans, pleading with us to put Opie & Anthony back on the air, was deafening to say the least," said Dan Fawcett, executive vice president, Programming Acquisition, DIRECTV, Inc. "And though our original intent was to focus our XM service on more music, we now understand the passionate following that Opie & Anthony have and we're happy to bring them back on board in an expanded format."
DIRECTV began offering 72 channels of XM's quality music, children's, and talk programming in November of last year, nearly doubling its audio programming lineup at no additional cost. Customers subscribing to the DIRECTV TOTAL CHOICE(R) programming package have access to 50 XM Satellite Radio's music channels and customers subscribing to the DIRECTV TOTAL CHOICE(R) Plus programming package and above will have access to more than 68 channels. DIRECTV PARA TODOS(R) customers will also have access to the same XM channels, as well as five additional Latin music channels.
With the addition of the CBS simulcast on XM starting Wednesday, April 26, DIRECTV customers will now get five hours of live Opie & Anthony every weekday on High Voltage. The simulcast will air from 6 a.m to 9 a.m. ET and the duo's exclusive XM show will air from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. ET with replays throughout the day. Hosted by Opie (Gregg Hughes) and Anthony Cumia, the show observes and comments on a wide range of topics related to American social and popular culture.

Hosted by Opie (Gregg Hughes) and Anthony Cumia, the show observes and comments on a wide range of topics related to American social and popular culture. They got this line from the Wikipedia O&A article. I remember because I added that piece a few months ago. It comes from the O&A: Ungagged special they did when they first got on XM.

In my 40 years I have never seen a fan base of any kind for any entity have this much power (other than maybe DeadHeads or Packer fans).
Do you think they (O&A) are genuinely scared of the pests? If this CBS thing turns the show we love to shit, do you think they're even a little concerned about pest backlash?

DirecTV just sealed the deal. Thats who we will be going with when I move into my new condo.
Nice. The PESTs get even more recognition. Every victory and every mention just makes this mess grow. Eventually the PESTs will destroy O&A, then what will be left? Attack each other? World War 3, the apocolypse, total annihilation.
I love how they are playing up the whole CBS thing as well. Of course that just comes with the channel, but it is smart on their part to make themselves out to be heros.

PROUD TO BE ONE OF THE "FIVE" LISTENERS:action-sm
Why are there more than five people claiming to be one of the five?
I'm one of the five fans too.
After all the harassment I gave the sales department I ought to check into getting Direct TV. With Direct TV and DSL I might be able to actually actually save money.
First I have to find out from someone who knows, is DSL really slower than a cable modem? I am really satisfied with my cable modem.
i wrote to DTV
and have now written a thank you note to DTV
and i still don't have DTV...
but thats the kind of pest i am
thank you
good day sir.

I gotta give it to DTV. Cable companies don't give a shit what any of their customers think, and they charge more too. I'm seriously considering switching after seeing this.
I know it's off topic.. but anyone who has DTV: If you have an HDTV, do you have to buy some ridiculously expensive dish and tuners? That's the only thing that's stopped me from going to D* all these years.

"do you ever write a nice "thank you" letter after a victory?"
Well, normally we're going after shit dicks, so a follow-up is hardly appropriate, aside from planting a flag on the corpse, like the "O-Town" billboard. But in this case, absolutely, go to the original attack thread and use the feedback link. Be sure to use your DTV account number. A large number of positive reponses would be just as impressive.

There the same as Sat. radio. They can only send down a signal. It doesn't send one back up. But, If you have your phone line in the back then they can read everything off your reciever. Unless things changed since the new P5/P4 cards came out. At least this is what I was told back in the days of the P3 cards. The ones with the football guy on them. It might of changed though.
Since those cards came out I have to actually pay for it. :(

So did I. When I called to order I said I'm a O&A fan and want my XM Ch. 879. The guy taking my order said he had never heard of O&A, was a HooHoo fan & had the other technology. Thought it was ironic & hilarious at the same time...

Yeeah! Love it.
Hey, since I can't start a new thread yet still, I'll just ask here cause I don't see it anywhere. What are the new replay times for the show since it's longer?

4pm-10pm probably
I'd like to thank everyone of the pests that took the time to call up D-TV and get this show back on. I will be moving in August and my XM Home kit is worthless - there's no signal. DirectTV will be the only way I can listen to the show. Thanks, you dudes rock!

Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard if Todd has spun this at all since the channel was returned? I'll bet that shitdick is keeping his mouth shut (for a change) and won't address it unless maybe some guy named Steve from Yellowstone happens to call his show to ask him about it.

you are correct, but they can't tell what you are watching at the moment or what you have watched in the past. that is not stored in the receiver.

Great job pests, I actually called also to complain and dont even have or plan on getting Direct TV.

The part about the phone line is incorrect. The phone line is used to transmit on-screen pay-per-view purchases back to DirecTV. Viewing history is not retained within the receiver.
If you have a Tivo (which it the brand of DVR in all DirecTV DVR's sold prior to 2005), there is some information stored that can be transmitted back to Tivo. I'm not sure what info is transferred back, but there is nothing in the data being transmitted that identifies the customer associated with that data.

Yeah, it was my first win, too. I've been 'pestering' for years (for various reasons) and I've never seen anything like this... I called DTv solely to thank them, and the operator nearly had a stroke. Ke kept saying, "Is that all you called for?" I guess he was waiting to get 'Ramon'd'.:icon_lol:
