Can't the Inno play MP4 files too? I mean, the audio codec XM uses IS an MPEG-4 compliant codec after all.

According to the "instructions" it is WMA and mp3 complient. I'm not schooled enough on how the different codec work and/or interact to know. I might try later on tonight when I'm off work, we'll see what plays out.

I received mine yesterday and I love it. The reception is great. I was able to listen to it via the FM modulator with the Inno just sitting on the front passenger seat. I had about 2 bars most of the time. When I set it on the dash, it was as if I had a car kit hooked up to it in regards to the reception. Very nice. Only problem I have is that the dipshit in Malaysia who put together the remote put the xm button on upside-down. So basically I see ((WX)). It works, but looks fuckin' gay. I called Crutchfield and they are sending me another remote. He says I should get it in about 2-3 weeks.

iTunes does this, IIRC - just re-import the AAC (mp4) song into your library with import prefs set to mp3 - however it won't allow you to convert the iTMS-purchased music - for that you have to burn onto a CD and then re-import as MP3s...

Since I can't start a new thread, I'll just have to interrupt this one. I Just bought a Pioneer Inno so my MyFi must go! This was purchased in January of 2005 and is in excellent condition. It even has the protective screen cover still stuck on. The MyFi comes with everything that was originally included, all in the original box. The car dock and accessories have never been used. The home dock and antenna has been used but are in great condition. The MyFi also comes with the new white battery.
I am looking to get $100 for everything, plus express shipping. I can accept Paypal or a Money Order. Please send me a private message or send an email to stoutlvr@yahoo.com if you're interested.

Not true, Go to Fm Mode and turn it on and it will play on the radio. It goes back to Auto when you shut the radio off, you will have to turn it on again everytime. I hope everyone Inno is recording for you. I sadly had to return mine, just wouldn't record. I look forward to getting another one or the Helix.

Do a google search for "Pioneer Inno" then click on the froogle page. Theres like 10+ pages of different places selling them. They're priced anywhere from $349.99 - $500.00+. The cheapest place I've found is ...........com. They're listed for $349 OR check into ebay once in a while but stay away from the douche bags that put them up at a starting bid of $1 on a 24 hour auction. Check the sellers feedback score and reputation to make sure they're not trying to fuck you up the ass.

The Inno is indeed fantastic - I can have a couple days worth of O&A shows and not have to worry about listening to it every single day (like on my MyFi where it would be erased with the next days show..or two days)
One BIG problem though -
There is a problem with the way O&A are posting their tracks - on the MyFi you get the different PAD data like "E-Rock Sucks" or "No Homo", etc. But on the Inno you only get huge blocks that just say Opie and Anthony.
It's not a show stopper because at least on the Inno you can fast forward through a track, but the last track on the show today was 95 minutes and it took about 5-6 minutes to FFWD up to 60 minutes (the FFWD feature is a bit slow)
On XM411 somebody posted that it's due to the way that O&A are posting the tracks or the pad data - or some technical thing.
Like I said, it's not a show stopper - but I miss the comedy that is often posted there on the Pad data.
Hopefullly someone can pass this on to someone in the know...

That has nothing to do with the Inno, it's the pad data that they are sending over. They are not doing a good job at it. Ron and Fez's pad data is always on point. The O&A team need to get on the ball with this, sometimes I delete the wrong track because I thought it was still a commercial.

Got mine last thursday. Lovin' it so far (damn, this thing's small!). Unfortunately, the car cradle isn't in stock anywhere, so I'm listening to the FM tuner, which requires you to leave the headphones plugged in as a tranmitter antenna. A little clunky, and I a bit of static now and then, but good enough until the car kits arrives.
At first, I thought only 512M for my own music was small. However, in practice, I only keep an album or 2 worth of music on my MP3 player, so this fits in fine. Besides, most of the music I'm downloading I hear on XM first. With the Record button, I don't do so much downloading now.

Good luck adding them to your account. I've been trying since last night to add a radio and their online system was "down for maintenance". Not thrilled, but no biggie. I check today and I get "The server you are trying to access is either busy or experiencing difficulties. Please close the Web browser, open a new browser window, and try logging in again". So I finally call the company and I'm told their systems are completely down and could be down for another day. Their customer reps can only take down information and call you back when everything is back up. HEY E-LO...WTF?!?!?!

Wait... You can buy a car kit for it. You mean to tell me that they make an accessory that's needed?! How's that possible? I was figuring it'd work fine in a car and that the car kits they make are purely for decoration.
I'm excited to get mine. I mean, I'll be bummed if it doesn't work without headphones plugged in. I want to walk around and listen without headphones. I mean, they're included, but probably are not necessary.

dodisman,
I'm assuming that you placed the unit somewhere where it would have a direct line of site to the southern sky (e.g., the back deck of the car), and not in your pocket, correct? I would expect there to be some dropout in the more rural regions, but not picking up ANY signal from Connecticut to Kentucky seems extremely unlikely. I'd look at getting a replacement/refund. Otherwise, like usadingo said, the car kit should do the trick.
usadingo,
It doesn't have an external speaker. You need to use either the headphones, or have the transmitter send it to a nearby FM radio. You might be able to use a pair of those external iPod speakers, but that's a fairly bulky and awkward solution.
As for car kits, Ziggy's got them in stock as of this morning. I should get mine by tomorrow afternoon.

Try refreshing your signal Perch. I just got my Inno today, and it wasn't activating. Turns out that it wasn't getting proper signal when the refresh came through the first time.
As for my few minutes of use so far- it's awesome. I need to play around with it more though. It seems to be starting recordings when I start it and not buffering back to the beginning of the song. But other than that, it's working great.
The antenna from my Roady2's car kit works on it, so I really don't need the car kit unless I want the car charger. I'll probably just get a power inverter instead and use the home cord if I need more than five hours of listening time.
But as people have said, it is defiinitely small. I'll probably post pictures later tonight showing exactly.

Thanks Perch i was just looking for the appropriate thread to post in and ask about the wireing. Running the atnenna wire for my myfi was a pain in ass and took me 2 days

Try refreshing your signal Perch. I just got my Inno today, and it wasn't activating. Turns out that it wasn't getting proper signal when the refresh came through the first time.
Yea, i did that and it took about 2 minutes to work. Pretty cool little gadget. I havent had a problem at all recording. I started @ 6pm and its been going since then and the show has taken a few commercials. It hasnt cut out.
The only thing I see as a downside and i still cant figure out why this isnt a feature is that when you record live you cant pause and then start up again from that point. Kinda like a tivo thing. Im usually in and out of my car all day and only get bits and pieces and then listen to the parts i miss when the shows done.
The size is great too. Its pretty much the exact size of my razr. Its like a 1/4th of a inch wider on the sides.
Oh and i just went down to my car and ripped out the myfi cradle and put the new one on. (you dont even need to do that since the cradle attaches to it.) The antenna and the power supply plug right into it. Basically the only reason to get the car kit if you had a myfi, skyfi, rodie etc is if you wanted the cradle so its not flying around the car when you drive.

Yeah when i was in the van driving I was in the backseat and i had the thing pressed against the window facing south to try to pick something up...and when i say i got no reception i was exagerating...i would pick it up for 20 seconds and then drop it and continue like that...which rendered it useless....now to a previous post of course there is a fucking car kit but that is meant to stay put in your car, not travel with you to every other fucking car you drive in...maybe i was naive in thinking this thing would be rock solid when at least halfway exposed to outdoors...I haven't had luck. I'm not bashing this thing to bash it...I WISH i had more luck with it but overall i've been less then impressed...and don't get me started on that shit NAPSTER software...I hope down the line a better pair of strong antenna headphones come along (those Belkins stink)

Just got my car kit today, but for the last few days I had my INNO on my dashboard and even in my cupholder in the console, and I had a constant signal. Didn't drop once. Much better than the MYFI under the same circumstances. Might be your INNO.

If someone owns one and can answer my questions it would be a more gooder thing......
What bugs are out there?
How many MP3's have you been able to load on this thing?
Do u need to write the ID tags on the MP3 files?
Can you manage your MP3's into playlists?
Can Recorded XM Tracks be mixed in with MP3s in some kind of playlist?
Wow, those are good questions I wish someone that owns one of these already would answer.

Wow, those are good questions I wish someone that owns one of these already would answer.
The only one that I can answer as of now is the bugs question.
The only "bug" I've read about so far is that some people are having problems recording. It seems like not all that much though. I thought I was, but it just turns out it was the song I was recording.
I know some others have been having trouble with the Napster software, but it's basic stuff that's fixed with updates.
And as for the signal stuff people are talking about- I think it all depends on where you live. I'm doing fine in central Minnesota, so I'm assuming others will do fine in more populated areas. I just take my cradle with me, dock my Inno, and hook up my old Roady2 antenna to it and I'm good to go.
I just saw the Inno in Walmart today. They are priced at $398.98. I really wanted to buy it, but Ireally need to buy a lamp for my projector( I really miss watching movies and tv on a 93" screen).

You do not need to write ID tags on the MP3s.
You can managethe MP3 into a playlist.
All the Mp3s are under My music so Im pretty sure you can mix recorded stuff and your own Mp3s into a playlist.
I couldn't be happier with the purchase if that helps anyone else. :icon_bigg

I haven't been able to load any mp3s. For some reason the stupid napster software doesn't see it, and the flash update software claims the device is corrupt, even after several factory resets. That and when it's connected to my computer, it takes about two minutes for windows to time out on any file browse operations. It shows up as a drive on the computer, even though by the documentation you can't use it.. so I'm not sure why they chose for it to show up as a USB drive. I'm also kind of annoyed that even though it has a 10 minute buffer, there is no way to pause/rewind/skip on live content like with the SkyFi2. The play/pause button just mutes live content.

I have a couple of questions for people who have received the innos:
1. Have you noticed a difference in the internal antenna strength. I work near some nice repeaters, so I get a good signal for the myfi in many places, but in a lot of other areas have to rely on the somewhat bulky antenna headphones.
2. People have mentioned being able to attach the myfi's car antenna to the device and not having to rewire that. Will the power cord for the myfi work on this device or on a cradle that comes with it?
And in reference to people who have said their myfi signals have sucked the last couple of days, I did totally lose a signal yesterday (at the same time someone else's signal dropped on their tao), but it only lasted about five minutes.

1. from what I've seen and heard so far, the internal antenna is much better than the My Fi.
2. the dock wiring is fully interchangeable. I'm not too sure if you have one od the lipstick antennas for the myfi/tao tho...
Thanks for the response on the myfi/tao signal. Maybe I wont replace the antenna yet...

- for the new inno, do you need to get a car antenna to hook it up to or will the internal antenna work well enough?
- if the inno requires a car kit, is there any site that offers the car kit instead of a home kit? when home, i can listen to xm online and don't neccessarily need a home kit, but wouldn't be oppsed to having one.
i really need to get a portable. im in my car all day working for a valet company and ive drained my battery a couple times by forgetting to start my car every now and then.

The internal antenna on the Inno is strong. I was upstairs in my house yesterday, and as long as it was pointed south, it got a signal through the wall.
Another cool feature that hasn't been brought up (at least I think) is the Stock/Sports ticker. I could care less about stocks, so I've ignored this part. But you can go through and list your favorite teams, and the scores will scroll across the bottom along with when the next game is on, and the channel. Other sports besides MLB are listed as well, I just haven't played around with them as much yet.

Honestly? It depends on where you live. I've heard of some working fine in cars. Others, they need the external. The good news is that if you've had a car kit from another type, the antenna is universal and will still work on the Inno. The car charger is a different story. What you could do is get a power inverter (about $30) which plugs into your cigarette outlet, giving you a standard outlet you could plug the home a/c adapter into. If you don't have a car kit, you could still do this and place the home antenna in the back window. That's what I did today since I didn't feel like moving my car antenna.

If I get my manager to approve, I'll probably start selling some on here for $350. If I could order them on my own, I'd employee discount buy and sell them for $300.
Sell plasma. In most places, you can make about $40-$60 a week. It'd be worth it to say you bought your Inno with blood money.

Ok an update here... I'm not sure what the hell is up with my main machine and the Inno, but I tried the laptop I had, and it worked fine with it.
The Napster software sucks ass. However the Inno shows up as a USB drive and I can actually see the files on it from this machine. To transfer files to the Inno you just drag them into the MyMusic folder, they can be in subfolders and the inno finds it when it scans for files after you disconnect it from the machine.
Ok now the test for the advanced users. Lets hook it up to my Linux machine. Yep, reads just like any other USB drive. I just copied over brother Joe's The Guitarfather, and we're golden. Nice. I would assume this would also work for any Mac users out there.
Now what about the song bookmarks and all that. Well the files are all in the xmsys folder. Took a quick look with my hex editor, the text fields are pretty obvious, and I'm betting it would be pretty easy to reverse engineer the files so a custom piece of software could read the data. Open source software folks are pretty ingenious here.
So now that I have the MP3 player functionality working, I'm a bit happier. I still don't like how you can't pause live xm, since I use that feature all the time with the SkyFi2. You pretty much have to be paying attention and if you want to pause something, you would have to set it into record mode, then go back later once whatever you were listening to was finished to catch what you missed.
Honestly? It depends on where you live. I've heard of some working fine in cars. Others, they need the external. The problem with cars is they are a big metal cage with only a few openings for the signal to get through. I'd really suggest going for the car kit. Not only does it take care of your signal problem, but it keeps your rather expensive inno from flying around if you take a turn to quickly or have to stop, etc..
Before I bought a spare auto antenna, when I would rent a car, I'd just run the home antenna cable into the trunk or door jam, and have the cable taught so the antenna would stay put. worked fairly well.

You couldn't get cell phone coverage inside a mall if they didn't put repeaters inside. Why are you surprised that the Inno doesn't work? It has a good antenna but it can't perform miracles.

as for what i have read with the getting signal form the posts on here. the car kit is the best way to go with the antenna outside of the car. it the unit is by the front windshield you will lose reception more just because the windshield glass is thicker then any other glass in the car. i install sat. radio every day at work. ant on back deck if the car has it works good but outside is the best ever if u have alot of repeters in the area.

The MyFi didn't need a power adapter for the transmitter to work like the Inno does (probably sacraficed for size) but it worked fine for me without the car kit, your only limited by the battery life.

The inno does not need to be in a cradle or hooked up to a car adapter for the modulator to work. The FM modulator automatically sets to 'auto'. To have it work without cords, you have to set it to 'on'.

That's be tha FAKRA connector ( or something like that) you can take it off with a small screwdriver. It just wraps around the actual antenna termination.

I know about the "FM mode" setting, I set it "on" after I unpluged it from the cradle and I've needed the Travel Power Adapter (see page 67 of the user guide) to hear it through the radio.
I used it with recorded content so it's not a Sattelite reception issue.

For the FM Mod on the inno to work it in portable mode you need to have the headphones or the dongle plugged in. It uses that as the antenna to broadcast the FM signal.
FM mod really works well, much better than my roady2 that I have.

Inno Car Charger - $24.99
Would this include the whole kit - antenna, power, dock, remote? If so, that would be quite a deal I would be interested in.

That'd be just the car charger. Sadly, I don't have access to the full kit. The car charger is nice, mainly for those like me who had a different unit before with the car kit. My old antenna still works hooked up to the home dock- I just need the car charger for power. Or, if someone wants to use the Inno in their car soley for recorded content, this would give them power.
I'm mainly just trying to get a number of those who might be interested so I can see if all this is worth ordering in.

I'm sure it's been answerd twice by now. Butttt.... Does the fm frequency work on the Inno, when in the home dock?
I just bought one and can't figure that part out.
Thank You!

Yes it does.......unless your firmware has been updated, then i'm not sure......so I guess that really doesn't answer your question then does it??

New firmware disables the FM mod unless it's in the car dock.

When you power it on look on the bottom, it will tell you what version is it is.
FYI, car kits are shipping
Helix http://www.myradiostore.us/home-car-kits/for-samsung-helix-kit/car-kit-samsung-helix-ya-cp100.html
Inno
Ah, sold out already.
The Helix will work for both units, as will the Inno Car kit.
I ordered a Helix car kit last night.

Half a retard?... :action-sm
I really want one however I would rather invest the money in a nice XM-ready deck for my truck... maybe one of those fancy touch screen ones... but if the Inno's come down in price around x-mas I may be tempted.

V 1.10 and higher. yes
I got a 1.05, didn't read about the firmware update, returned it, got a Inno and Helix, but both were 1.10, so I returned those and found one with 1.05 on ebay for 359.99 including shipping.

You don't have to spend $400 dollars, there are a few retailers that sell it for way less.

Anyone find the Inno car kits yet. Got mine about 2 weeks ago for $230 but can't find a fucking car kit. I heard the Helix ones work but wanted to find out for sure from someone who has used it.

Ok I have a question for you techy people. Why is it that the FCC has shut down the INNO from braodcasting if its not in a car craddle?
You can get a FM transmitter for your Ipod and no car dock. Also I been shopping for a new phone service. The newest thing is a built in FM transmitter so you can play your downloads threw you cars radio. As advertised even.
Any idea's I wonder is all. @ 70.00 for a car dock, a tape thingy, a few shitty wires that don't allow it to fit in the car dock properly. A antenna with a weak magnet, and the thing jumps out of the dock so often I'm about to wear out the on/off button.
I truely love the Inno and its technology. But the car dock can suck my cock!

That price tag is the ONLY problem. I'll have to stick with the fine Pioneer Airware...oh, and that old Roady 2 in the car that's starting to die.
I'm hoping X-mas finds a big price drop!

You can get an inno for $199 here:
http://partners.xmradio.com/
enter code:
xmbb xm03 (get rid of the space)
Its supposed to be for best buy employees iirc, but they never verify it. People have been using this code for a long time now. A friend of mine just ordered one and it shipped the same day.

I'll still wait a bit. Myfi's dropped to less than that in less than a year.
It shouldn't be too long before that price drops too.
