Dear Fucking Retard Callers,
PUNCHING OUT does NOT mean goodbye.
Punchin is for use when mid-joke/call/bit, you understand that you're bombing... Instead of finishing and ending up with the car-crash, crickets, ping pong, etc., you abort the call.
Let me clarify:
Call in and want to say something funny. Stumble on your words, uncomfortable swallow, heavy breathing... fully understand that your story is going NOWHERE. You stop speaking. You say, "Punching out". You hang up.
God forbid you identify yourself as a caller from wackbag and say "punching out" after a whole call, I will ban you forever.
Love,
Doughboy

Doughboy, I appreciate you reiterating this. It's been a pet peeve of mine since the boys started on XM. I even recall Anthony ranting about this, however that was a long time ago and had no effect on the callers.
I really wish the "You guys suck" sign off would catch on again.

PUNCHING OUT is hitting the seat ejection button on a flaming fighter jet. Its not pleasant, you will crash through the fuselage. Its going to hurt, but you do it to save honor and life.

we don't always have to listen to the bbbbboys. I think its funny as hell when someone frustrates anthony with a late "punching out". If the bbbbboys were callers, you know at least jimmy would attack on the punching out thing.

these are guys that make fun of EVERYTHING, but saying punching out at the wrong time gets you banned here?
I'm surprised Jimmy is still on the show. Remember how angry Opie would get when he would say it was his birthday? The show should be called Lucky Jimmy. What a little rule breaker he is.

I do know what it means. I have been listening to the boys since early WNEW days..before they were all talk.
I was just saying that I personally find it hilarious when Ant flips out on someone who is 'punching out'
It is a balance of power. The bbboys have the power to hang up on us. We have the power to be horribly unfunny, then tell them we are punching out. Not all the time, but it is not an 'annoyance'.
Punching out is not goodbye...i get it. I knew it never was. But since when does someone on the show (anthony) complain about something he doesn't like (the misuse of 'punching out' as if we are really pilots) and we listeners step back and nod and agree. Screw that.
I just think its silly to be so regulatory on something like this. This is just my 2 cents. I understand, but I will laugh when someone says punching out and anthony says "no you didn't sir you are flaming wreckage."
Who saw that coming?

While the topic of "punching out" is on the table here's something I was thinking about the other day:
Why isn't there a better sound effect when someone crashes so badly that we hear the airplane crashing so there is no doubt that punching out is beyond their means.
If you're going to have a theory of punching out then why not tie it together
with a jet airplane crashing sound effect?
Don't get me wrong, I love the car crash sound but I also like seeing new sound clips added to the show.
When I joined XM in Jan. 05 the kelsey grammar "oh good lord" hadn't even taken place, and look what they've done with that one.

I've said it many times. It's about time people understand the concept behind "Punching out".
That would require the average american to have an IQ above.. oh, soap.
Edit: Also, You CAN'T PUNCH OUT and then continue the conversation. Can a pilot continue to fly a plane once he's ejected? NO. I've heard once or twice "Blah blah blah oh, shit. Punchin out. Oh, hey Ant? blah blah blah." Granted, it's few and far between and I can't name any *specific* instances but I know I've heard it before and I just want to say this.
The LOGICAL PROGRESSION OF A PUNCH OUT:
"Let's go to <caller> in <state>"
"Hey, b-b-b-boys."
"Hey"
"Blah Blah Blah. <joke bombs> Ah, shit. Punchin out. You guys suck. CLICK."
Is it really that hard?
Guilty Spark
04-26-2006, 06:39 PM
Dough Boy, I thank you. This has been a misconception since they started on XM. Here's what I think happened:
The new listeners thought the term had to do with one "punching out" of work, with a time card and such. Kinda like a "see you later, I'm outta here". This isn't how it was originally intended.
To put it bluntly, anyone who punches out without using it in the proper context should die in a fire or multiple fires.

Why does everyone want to go with "You guys Suck"?
What about "Stinky Rules?"
It's time for a return to You Guys Suck. They're back on FM now and "purging" at least one market where they have not been before. I for one hope there will be others soon. I'm sure they'll get more than a few "Bring back DLR/Music/Other Hack Jock You guys Suck" Calls and that's what spawned the whole thing early on in syndication.
If you can't bring yourself to say Goodbye! or Later! or Bye Guys! or whatever, use "You guys suck" It's a much more appropriate show-specific saying for good bye.
Edit : Stinky Rules is also a good one :)

*Also, how many callers who are fans of the show are going to fall for Jimmy giving them the "runaround"? No offense, but I hope I never get to the point of giving a shit about the proper use of catch phrases.
I guess I'll have to make sure to put the correct amount of "O"'s in my "Ramoooooone" posts (if I ever make one of those).
Punchin' out.
We care more on the East Coast. Simple as that.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but I am pretty sure our own Dougout Doug did it on today's XM show at the end of his call at approximately 11:36 AM (May 5th, 2006). It's gotten out of control and has become something else other than its intended meaning. I'm convinced it can't be stopped. Sorry for calling this out. I like Doug...so no offense. ;)

And I think that's the first time I have used that, so please weigh on the side of consistency.

I think the Dru Boogie, Steve C Punching OUt Remix confused the issue. "Before you call this F-ing Shot there are 4 words that you should know. Im Punching out. Im Punching out. I'm punching out, you guys are great." Makes it seem like everyone should say it at the end of every call.

It's the callers who are responsible. I never hear the promo.

Let's just stop using it all together. It has run it's course and morphed into something else.
If you bomb, give it the old "I Suck" and take your car-crash like a man.
Re-stated for the good of all!
"Punching Out" is done!

I heard the promo this morning. It should end with Ant ranting about the incorrect use of "punching out." I only realized what the promo was a few seconds into it, but I'm pretty sure I heard something along the lines of this being "O&A Vocabulary." Way back when I was in school, not only did they teach us new words and their meaning, but also the correct use of the word.
I hope Ant goes off about this on Free FM sometime soon. :icon_mrgr

But given his on air track record, Dougout Doug should end all his calls with that. Given enough air, he usually locks up at some point and punching out it the appropriate way to get out before he does. It means you know you are losing or have lost control of your train of thought.
Time to retrain the free army.
PS- Doug, I'm not shitting on you, I barely even have the balls to comment on the boards.

While we are on this subject....
You don't request to be car-crashed. This isn't Tom Leykis, send me out with a bong hit, kind of thing. You get crashed when its funny to do so. If you do so, you risk being killing-the-bit-guy.
So when is the "Car-Crashed" Thread gonna start, its not a bad idea.

Plain and simple, some of the fans who joined when the boys went to XM will never fully get the show.

 for addressing that
He had a thing where he would blow up callers, and after a while, callers started asking to be blown up. I'd HATE for the car-crash to become like that old gag, although it's looking like it's too late for "punchin out."

[QUOTE=PDOT]What if punchin out means, like i just worked a 8-hour shift," punchin out"? I think it has double meaning for some[QUOTE=PDOT]
What if C. A. T. really spelled 'punching out' :icon_conf
