inspired by lawdawg and the other folks in this thread: http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=43699
we all know about the successes of the pests - most recently getting O&A back on DirecTV within a week after being dumped - but what about trying to step it up a notch. the opie and anthony show is a proven commodity in nearly all of the markets it was syndicated to. any station in those markets with fledgling ratings has to listen to any argument for a program that will bring them more money, pure and simple.
so my suggestion is basically this: let's start doing our homework. find out all the information we can about O&A's old markets. find out the formats of the stations, the numbers their current morning show is doing, the station's overall share, and weigh them against the numbers O&A did back in the syndication days. and then we find the station managers and pd's at these stations and show them exactly how convincing an argument we can make when money, momentum and history are on our side.
Howard Stern is dead. He's not coming back to save fledgling terrestrial radio stations, nor will their shitty ratings improve by trying to imitate iPods. Let them know that in force. We'll see what happens next.
What do you think?

Just my guess, but I doubt it's the individual radio stations that would have this choice. I think it's probably more at a corporate level. Like, where does infinity want to put OnA.

well, if you read the thread linked above, when asked about O&A coming back to his market, a representative at 93.7 in Sacramento made a point of saying "not gonna happen." assuming he's not speaking on behalf of CBS Radio, I don't know how he'd be qualified to make a statement like that. unless, you know, the stations have some say over their programming.

We have 2 CBS Radio FM stations in Atlanta: V-103, the #1 station in the city, but it's an Urban contemporary music station. And then there's 92.9 Dave FM, which is an adult album alternative station, and is sinking quick. O&A could probably work on Dave FM and actually compete with 99X (a sinch) and The Regular Guys. Dave has a great signal (http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WZGC&service=FM&status=L&hours=U). Maybe I'll shoot off an ol' email.

Much like the asskissing wackpackers and Superfans ruined the Stern show. Alot of these asskissing Pests make the show boring to listen too, people forget back at WNEW even K-Rock (with Stern) the callers use to fuck with and goof on both shows thats what makes great radio , not constant calls saying "I love you guys" or "Your the best" punching out , its fucking corny

I got a semi-positive "wait and see" response from 92.9 in Buffalo, and I haven't heard back yet from 94.1 in Rochester. Buffalo is going with the jack fm format now and rochester has on rover in the morning.
I got the impression from the buffalo station that it wasn't their decision. I'm guessing that if the show does well in the first 7 markets, CBS will have to pay O&A & XM some more money to syndicate in more markets. It's not like the typical situation where CBS would own all of the rights to a show and could decide to syndicate to more markets on their own.

I know that CBS uses the "FreeFM" format in several markets in addition to the seven markets that the show is currently syndicated. However, in places like Balt/DC they have their own local morning show (The Junkies), while the midwest carries some other guys (a la Cleveland w/ their tape delay). Do you think that if O&A on FreeFM gets the ratings that we think they can get, CBS will shuffle their talent to other dayparts to utilize O&A in the maximum number of markets?

I think those other stations in the CBS "family" will absolutely get the show if they start doing huge numbers in New York/Boston/Philly. That being said, I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to force the issue now, especially since CBS's radio division has been on life support for the past year.

Based on the idea that O&A would only be doing only FREE FM and Rock stations during 6-9, I think we should try to concentrate our focus on getting them on the following stations owned by CBS
FREE FM

Is there any point in petitioning radio stations *not* owned by CBS?
The only ones in my area are owned by 'Cox' and 'Cumulus Media'...

No CBS stations in Syracuse. Farid lost his chance.
I don't even know where to begin here in Salt Lake. It would be wonderful to get the boys on here but I know it's never going to happen. The entire fucking city is in bed with mancow. :(

All in good time. They just have to be successful in the markets they're in first. So it's better to concentrate on exposure there first. Survival mode would be having them successful in New York, Boston and Phily. And then if they have success in Dallas, West Palm Beach and Pittsburg then they can be expanded to other parts of the country and take over some of the Rover and Coralla stations.

This is the list from which you should work from:
http://www.cbsradio.com/stations/?sort=stat_format
Obviously, I'd suggest you limit your efforts to the AC, All Comedy,CHR, Classic Rock, FREE FM (Not all have picked up O&A), Hot AC, Jack, News/Talk, and Rock/Alt stations. Any others would be a real long shot.

I sent one off to djredelberger(at)columbus.cbs.com from WAZU yesterday and got a response back today saying that the O&A e-mail was being forwarded to the Operations Manager and they love O&A and are hoping to secure them for Columbus.

I got ins at CBS Radios KCMO office, I'm best friends with the PD of KFKF. We've been friends since me and his son played baseball together. Maybe I should mention that Star 102's saggin ratings and the recent name change from KSRC to KCKC is perfect for a Free FM format.
Trust me, the only sydicated shows in KC are Tom Joyner, Mancow(God forbid he had to wait 10 years to actually come back home, and he can go back to Chicago with that feed), and Bob and Tom. We need O&A!
We should focus our attention more. If we work on a bunch of different stations, it dilutes our power. We should pick ONE market, rock them till one of the stations cave in, E-mail them thanks and positive feedback for a week or so, then move on to the next. We would get more done that way.
I think Columbus would be a great starting point.

I'm ready to help all I can. I've sent out a couple more e-mails from other addresses and had some friends that I've introduced O&A to to do the same.
