from imdb news
Responding to legions of fans, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment have agreed to release the original versions of the first three Star Wars movies, unmodified by digital enhancements, on Sept. 12. Each of the films, Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983) will be released separately and will be accompanied by a second disc offering the digitally reedited version produced in 2004. They will be withdrawn from circulation on Dec. 31. A promo for the new releases states: "See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion-control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and, yes, see Hans Solo shoot first."

Good for Lucas. If Star Wars nerds are going to shell out cash every time he takes a dump in a DVD case, then by all means, pimp it out.

So glad I didn't buy the first release. I hate giving money to Lucas but I am definitely buying these. I'm sorry. Give me a pass, I didn't buy the re-edited versions.

i haven't shelled out a single dime for the dvd releases yet... if it takes 20 years for that cocksucker lucas to stop putting this shit out, i might finally spend the money... its bad enough when a movie comes out on dvd 4 months after its in theaters then 6 months after that, they come out with the "super duper extreme delux unrated version" of the same shit... and at some point you'll probably have 2 different versions of all 6 movies sold together in some super box set... one with features and enhanced shit, and the other in the original versions...

Oh, I believe you but all I really want is the original versions of the trilogy. I can live my life without seeing TPM, AOTC, and ROTS ever again.

Giving the fans what they want, nothing wrong with that, my friends. I'll be shelling out the bucks just to get rid of that fucking Greedo firing first part.

Greedo dont shoot first now he shoots at the same time still not as cool as the original shot but meh i got Star Wars on dvd now and i'll buy it again. (because i never seen the original Star Wars like it was in theaters in 77)

Where did you hear this? I thought the new DVD would be completely uncut?

its a smart business move. people who want the original wouldn't buy the edited versions if they already had the original, but they would buy the edited version if the original hadn't come out. anyway, i don't care i fucking love star wars and i've been waiting for this for a while now.

How about Lucas, instead of trying to squeeze more money out of the original 3, he make a movie that follows Return of the Jedi?

Yes I know, I have read like 5 or 6 of them. So all Lucas has to do is adapt a script from the Heir to the Empire triology and make a movie from them.

whos more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him
i agree. if it wasnt for the fanatics who keep buying this shit, then lucas would have probably had to make more films instead of riding the coattails of star wars for the past 30 years

the first time i saw the movies was the special edition, while theres a VHS copy of the unaltered movies in the house somewhere, i dont plan on buying them. i like the '04 DVDs, they fit in with the prequels, all it really has is better effects, whats wrong with that? i guess people who grew up in the 80s perfer them, different strokes for different folks then, this is really going nowhere
and oh yeah, the big complaint people keep bitching about with the 04 dvds, anakin as a young guy at the end of jedi makes sense, the spirits are good, the good side of him dies in episode 3, hence young spirit, not rocket science

he wasn't really young he just looked like he would have normally if he wasn't all fucked up. he was really young when luke and leia were born and only about 20 years pass between episode 3 and 4. so he would have been in his late 40's in ROTJ which is how he looked to me.
I remember when the first revisions came out for the Star Wars Trilogy, Lucas Films said it would be the last time they would be selling the originals.
Star Wars was good at its time but there have been so many other good Sci Fi Movies since then.

What's great about the original trilogy was the script. Adding digital effects did nothing, and in places detracted. Its good to see them finally released. Yes, I'm a Star Wars geek.
