Jay Mohr's Community Service

The pilot "Community Service" starring Jay Mohr (as best I can tell) has not been picked up by NBC.

I read the script and posted about it a month or two ago, it was great, but who knows how it turned out.

On Wednesday, I had an email saying that it was on the schedule, but since then it hasn't been mentioned anywhere that I've seen, not even saying it's dead.

NBC announces officially on Monday their schedule for next fall, so if it's going to be picked up we'll know officially then. There's still a chance it might be picked up for fall or maybe even for a midseason replacement.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, the Tina Fey pilot (featuring Tracy Morgan) was a lock the other day to be picked up, but now there is some problem with Alec Baldwin's contract for it, maybe it will fall through and make room for Jay's show.

If anyone see's Jay's standup in California this weekend, and Jay mentions he is going to NYC on sunday, that would be a good sign, because all the networks like to have the casts of the new shows at their up front presentations.

If I get any news about it this weekend, I'll post it.

I'm just another douche who grew up in jersey and came out to LA to work in the "Industry".

I've got friends at a lot of production companies, management companies, and agencys, and we just send emails around talking about what's been picked up and what hasn't.

You work in the biz also?

Community Service, was not picked up today by NBC.

The fourth place network is once again proving they have no clue what they are doing.

This might not be the final nail in the coffin, NBC did pick up "Teachers" last september, after not picking it up in May (but that show was just cancelled today also). We'll know in the next couple weeks if the contracts of the actors on the show are being extended or not.

I think NBC will be in fourth place this time next year again. Running "Deal or No Deal" two times a week, people are going to get bored with it and nothing else is all that exciting. But "The Black Donellys" is amazing, and everyone here will watch that show come next january. And "30 Rock" the Tina Fey show starring Tracy Morgan was picked up. I'm also hearing really good things about "Heroes" but going against monday night football isn't anyway to break a new show that is about super heroes, in my opinion.

I do however have a GREAT movie coming out July 12th caled THE GROOMSMEN with Ed Burns and Brittney Murphy.

Sorry to hear that bro. It probably wasn't picked up because it has been so long since NBC execs have seen anything funny they have a hard time determining what will and will not get laughs. I will definately see THE GROOMSMEN this summer.

Yeah. His luck does stink. Action was a brilliant show. Fastlane was pretty good. Last Comic Standing was a fun show, just NBC ruined it quickly by running the 3rd season too soon. The King's Ransom poster omission was almost comical.

I just hope Jay gets to Atlanta some time soon so we can see him live.

I got the feeling that after the Last Comic finale bing pulled that Jay wasn't on great teams with the company. All I can say is that I was surprised that he was in talks with NBC. I don't know shit and could be totally wrong.
If the show was funny it probably would be passed over by NBC. Jay would have a better chance of getting it aired on NBC if he devoted 10 minutes of his show to Chris Hanson and a couple of pedofiles.

Jay I watched the pilot over the weekend, and it was pretty bad, but all of the perfomances bye the actors, even you, were pretty good, so don't feel bad about that. I think they really lost the magic that was in that script with what ended up in that pilot.

I'm sure you signed on because of the script with your character doing coke off the floor, getting caught in bed with another chick by your girlfriend, and dunkenly partying at a bar, were these things even filmed or did they get cut by the lawyers beforehand?

Also when I read it your character was leaving NYC to go to rehab, but stopped to apologize to the ex, then got in trouble, but in the pilot there was no mention of the rehab. And in Ohio, the whole idea in the script was that your ex hadn't sold a single property in six months, and then you help her with that, what I saw had you helping her sell the house, but it didn't make sense why it was important if you hadn't read it and known her unlucky streak. It also kept your character from seeing that little bit of heart that he really had, instead you just looked bitter the whole time, also cutting the other NYC asshole from the beginning who you then run into at the entrance to the rehab also made you look worse.

I have no clue who made these changes and I'm not asking you to rat anyone out, I'm just sorry that they were made, and that I didn't get to see the show that was anything like my favorite sitcom script of pilot season.
