Well I was sort of let down, but at the same time, I noticed myself tightening my fists and getting tense during intense action scenes, so it did a good job sucking me in at parts. I do have a question regarding the original though. I can't really remember how it ended, and I am almost thinking they changed the ending. Can someone who saw the original help me out here? What happend at the end?

evetyone died except 3-4 of them when they finally made it to where the hull was thin enough to yell for help. it ended with a scene of them being pulled out after they cut a hole in the hull.

Thats what I thought. IMO, they completely fucked up the ending in the new one. I will leave it at that.:icon_conf

I wasn't a big fan of that Freddy Rodriguez guy misleading us about his role in the film. And I didn't hear the Dreyfuss interview, but I certainly hope he didn't forget to mention his character's umm..... orientation.

Should I go see this or what? Can't really get a feel whether or not it's any good. Is it recommended? I'm not looking for an oscar winner, just some kick ass special effects and excitement for 2 hours.

Saw it yesterday. It wasn't bad. Special effects were good. Once the wave hit, the movie just went off. No unnecessary character development, no love scenes, no boring dialogue. It served its purpose. It was fun.

popcorn movie. not horrible, not great...just ok movie.
MI3 was actually much better constructed and interesting movie.
I don't care about Tome Cruise's baby, religion or sexual orientation...I just like movies.
Oh, and I like that cute 19 year old emily rossom or whatever though from posiden..jerked off to her after the movie and a copy of hollywood life (she's on the cover).
yeah, it is ok. I was expecting a little more, but still entertaining none the less.

Special effects were good.
I saw this Friday night with the girl. The special affects for the most part were good not outstanding but good. There was one sequence though that was pretty bad though. When they are trying to get from one sie of the lobby to the other and the ceiling gives and all the fuel/oil pours down that looked like s. To me it looked like it never finished rendering the effects.
Over all I have to agree it is a summer popcorn movie. It is what it is. I also felt like they choped the movie up and cut a lot of scenes. It seemed like there was more character development that they cut and we never saw.

The one part where I felt the effects were a little weak was at the end when they were in the rescue float, paddling away from the ship. The close up of the group with the ship/waves in the back was pretty bad.

I have to disagree. I thought the lobby scene was one of the better effects besides the wave and ship capsizing. The fuel draining down, the explosion setting the fuel on fire and it streaking right through their path was great. The fire going out because the fuel had all drained was a great touch that I think alot of movies would not have done.
I enjoyed the movie overall. I went into it expecting a disaster movie like the original, not an action movie like MI:3 so I wasn't let down.
I like the factor they added to escaping, it wasn't just the dumb reason of "hey let's get up there where the rescuers can get us out" of the original.

I would have prefered them to go there and find their escape route unusable. Then, they could have gone with the original ending sort of, but instead, have it be more of a "well there is a 99% chance we are going to die now, but lets at least go where we will have a little time to live still.

They should make a whole movie following Kevin Dillon's character, he's great.

This movie sucked ass.
The effects were mediocre, and the predictable situations that the actors got into, just blew donkey dicks. It has been about 25 years since I have seen The Poseidon Adventure, so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I am hoping beyond hope that they purposely made the movie badly, and in a sort of campy way, as a take off on the original.
I did like Kevin Dillon's character though...but, was anybody surprised at what happened to him, and how he referred to his nickname of "Lucky" right before it happened? Eeeeyuck. The only good part, IMO, was what happened to Kurt Russle, or rather his acting when it happened...but they blew it with the heroic act thing he did *Starboard*.
God awful. Top 5 worst movie I have ever seen. :icon_evil
