I would not mind being a field doctor in the Army if there is a draft.
I'm essential to ze war effort.
Seriously though, I was in four years ago, but not for very long. They seem to frown upon people taking antidepressants during training, so I was drummed out. I gave it the ol' college try though, and I have the papers to prove it. Now I'm hoping that I can contribute somehow in the private sector someday maybe.

I dunno, I wouldn't cross the border but I'm a large fella with a bad back so I don't think they'd want me. If they said I was good to go I really wouldn't have a problem with it.
I'd enlist/get drafted. Been thinking about it, anyway.

Aren't there excuses? Don't you need to have a certain eyesight and health?
For example.
I have only one kidney and my eyesight is completely fucked to hell. (I sound like the mother of that astronaut). I don't know if that would get me out of a draft, but my question is are there certain things that can get you out?
If I can't get out of it, it's Canada or Switzerland for me.

What is the age that eliminates you? At this point in my life I don't know. When I was younger, I would have gladly gone. Now I have a family, and a life that I rather enjoy. I am basically the only income for my family, and I have people that depend on me.
I guess if I really had to, I would go, but I don't want to, and I don't agree with the reasons for going.

The problem with the military these days is that they have to engage the ENEMY as if they are a state trooper pulling someone over that ran a red light, except in this case the person you pulled over has an AK-47 sighted on you.
It's fucking ridiculous that our soldiers cannot be soldiers. The fucking liberal media and ACLU is waiting on every chance to destroy our military, borders and culture.
They are a bunch of socialists who want World law imposed over the United States.

Don't tell me the soldiers are forced to treat people who are shooting at them with etiquette.
If you are going to fight for world peace, fight for it when no one is at war. It's a bit easier that way. But right now we are at war and if someone has a gun and is our enemy, we should shoot them.
Fuckin' hippies.
Some of you guys sound like pussies. Fuck, if there ever was a draft again, it will probably be at gunpoint, and we are in deep shit, cause we probably fucked with the chinese too much.

My father, a retired US Marine aviator who served for 6 years during in the Korean war, talked me out of enlisting and set me on a path that today makes me a paleo-libertarian anarchist. My son, who is now 5, will never serve either. What does a Marine who fought with honor and courage have to say that would change my mind? That war is a racket (http://lexrex.com/enlightened/articles/warisaracket.htm).

1) 4F, baybeee!
2) Sit back and loff and loff.
I guess 4F could qualify under "get out legally", but I'd like to see the breakdown anyway.

I've got shitty eyesight, so I doubt they'd even consider me. Plus, I'm a skinny little fuck, so I'm not really cut out for military action unless they want to stick a flag on my head and wave me in the air. So, I chose "get out legally," because they'll accept openly gay guys ass-fucking each other on the tables in the mess hall before they accept my scrawny ass.

Yep. Cause the last thing I want to do is serve beside someone who didn't choose to do the job. In the eyes of the volunteer there is a negative stigma attached to the draftee. What if that person has to watch your back?

As I mentioned earlier, I'm active duty. If you're scared shitless of war, go to canada, there's nothing wrong with that, but to criticize the way we're approaching it doesn't help our cause. We are not like traffic cops; we are not impotent. Some of us service members are actually liberals, and love our country.

I have celiac disease, so I can't go. For anyone who doesn't know (which is pretty much everyone), all that means is that I have gastrointestinal upset when I eat wheat, barley, or rye. For that, I'm ineligible for the war...
And if I didn't, my sister lives in Vancouver. Hi, Sis.
Call me a pussy, but why would I fight in a war I adamantly protest? Barring career military or volunteers, I think it's pretty brainless to fight blindly because it's your "patriotic duty." That's your choice, and if it's what you want to do, more power to you. But don't call my morals into question because I'm not so quick to sacrifice my livelihood for a war against an intangible end.

Unless the federal statute has been changed (which I don't think it has), you are out of the woods at 27 as far as selective service goes. So, at 29, I'm not worried. That all said, I would go in, but try to go JAG (I'm an attorney).

I'm pretty sure they pulled the plug on the "I'm too religious" scam a long time ago. You might be able to claim "conscientious objector" status and hope for a posting somewhere other than the infantry, but you'd better be able to produce evidence of a longstanding track record of hardcore religious activity. If you just discovered your god five minutes after you got your draft letter, he's not going to be of any help to you.<P>And either way, you won't get to stay home with a free pass based solely on your beliefs. If that letter comes and you're physically fit, you're going somewhere, even if it's just a mail room.

If there's a draft, I'll wait until my nephews get drafted and then go laugh in my sisters face for voting for Bush. Then, should either of them get killed, I'll spend the rest of my life making my sister, brother in law and parents feel responsible for taking part in killing their kids (grandkids).

Mennonites separate themselves from the govt.
in schools, they can't forces us to stand and say the pledge of allegiance,
because our allegiance is only to the church and god.
some of the stricter mennonites and the amish don't even have to pay taxes.
