I watched 1 minute of her show on Bravo (because I wanted to see how bad it was) and she said "I don;t know how comics can't come up with a 20 minute set, it takes me 20 minutes just to say 'hello', I start to write my set about 40 minutes before I go on and I easily have 2 hours."

I've seen her stuff on Bravo and I can say this, I can tolerate listening to her stuff more than I can for alot of the hacks that are on Last Comic Standing, and even more that I see on Comedy Central's Comic Blend and all the other short shit shows they have on there. I think it's just professional courtesty that he doesen't publicly bash other comics. It's a tough job to put yourself out there, and it would just be tacky to go after someone in the same line as yourself.

He says she's a good storyteller, which may be true. Im sure he's a better judge of a standup's talent than anyeone here. Finding her funny is another thing.

If you are referring to when she played Rodney Dangerfield's wife during one of his specials in the mid-80's I couldn't agree more.

And I did like Roseanne, it was a good show.

Very valid point. There is a fine line between respecting those who do the same thing as you and pure bashing. Though it would be great to hear what he would have to say about her if he could, I mean what he REALLY thought of her.

There are probably some funny female comics somewhere, but they are vastly outnumbered by the "you know why me & my girlfriend hate men?" comics and these unfunny hacks are still around because people are scared to call them what they are knowing they'd hear responses like "What, I'm not funny because I'm a lesbian?", "because I'm a girl?", "because I make fun of men?", etc. The hacks exist because people have no integrity and can't just sack it up and say, "no, you just aren't funny."

Better question... why do hack comics have any kind of success?

The thing that still baffles me is not only did Lucy (with the admitted help of Desi's brilliant 3 camera angle idea) pioneer the situation comedy (hoo hoo) but she was consistantly funny in everything she did.

I remember Ellen way back when, before she needed to munch box for ratings, and she had something but over the course of the years it just faded away.

Why do hack comics succeed? I don't know. Why do all the animation films rake in the dough? Why did Full House stay popular for so long?

Unfortunately the majority of people are still easily amused. If you think about it television shows have only become edgy and witty in the last 10-15 years so there is hope.

But for every "The Shield" you have 5 Hope and Faith's.
