When was the last time Stern, Mancunt or any other show had someone talk so frankly about a subject. O&A had it with Leyritz and severl months ago w/Issac Hayes.

"I can remember my first amphetamine," Jim Leyritz said during an interview Thursday on XM Satellite Radio. "I was out all night drinking with Andy Hawkins and some of the guys on the team. I was a young player."
What show was he on? Merge Ahead....

Had to be on one of the 'good' shows XM promotes on National TV Spots. I think it was Bob Dylan or Snoop, always get them confused.

I got all excited and came right over here when I got the link, until I (a) saw I was a Late Larry and (b) can't post new threads. Guess I'll put the hog back in my mouth and wait months until post two.

Exactly. They are the best at relaxing and hanging with those who aren't complete cunts.

If they don't mention O&A, the rubes will think Home Plate although 5 minutes of Internet search (if we're still allowed to) will reveal the actual answer.

ESPN.com published a story today titled "Ex-Yankee Leyritz Admits Amphetamine Use," and listed XM Satellite Radio but NOT Opie and Anthony. Those fuckers couldnt do ANY research to find out what show actually broke the story?! Either that or they knew full well and bc of their ABC affiliation just refused to put the boys names into their article. Everyone should take the time to send espn a nice message telling them how much you appreciate the slight.

There is a reason it is called the 4 letter network by other people in sports radio.

I would think it might have something to do w/ xm broadcasting fox sports radio at nights...their main competetor (and better) Ohhhhh, AND the fact that ESPN sports radio is carried by Sirius....

Wow. I've missed most of the shows the past few days, but Leyritz admitted this on O&A? You'd think that would've gotten a mention there. I read that article on ESPN.com and figured it had to be on MLB Home Plate. That's a fucking omission there.

headline on benmaller.com...the guy has more hits than espn. And the first sentence is:
In an interview yesterday morning with radio shock jocks Opie and Anthony, former Yankee Jim Leyritz confessed to taking "greenies," or amphetamines. "I can remember my first amphetamine," Leyritz said on the "Opie and Anthony Show," which airs on 92.3 FREE FM as well as XM Satellite Radio. "I was out all night drinking with Andy Hawkins and some of the guys on the team. I was a young player. "I came in. I was hung over, sleeping by my locker. And all of a sudden, [Don] Mattingly came to me and said, 'Hey, you're in the lineup.' And I went, 'What?' He goes, 'Yeah, I just hurt my back.' "Now I'm walking around, I'm going, 'I don't know how I'm going to do this. There's no way that I can go play this game today.' I ran into my teammate who I knew had some of the 'little helpers,' as they called them. "He said, 'Take one of these. It should help. It'll take the edge off.' "So sure enough, I took one. He goes, 'OK, you can take two, but no more than two.' So I popped one more, and I went out and went 3-for-4 with two homers." -end

I'm listening to the Leyritz interview now and it's amazing to me how much Leyritz admitted and it didn't take O&A pressuring him to answer anything. All they did was engage him in the conversation and make him feel comfortable. It was a great interview and it's a great set-up O&A have, where they can just bring the guest in and just have a conversation with them. Great to hear.

Jesus christ, here we go. The world's conspiracy against O and A.

"the world's conspiracy against O&A"? come now, we all know the conspiracy is against Howard, the whole world's out to get him. he's said so himself!
blechhhh.
i think the reason why some articles and programs don't mention O&A is simply because of the type of show they do. if Leyritz had admitted to taking the amphetamines on a sports or news program, there wouldn't be such hesitation to mention the show he admitted it on. but because he did it on a show that is considered to be "politically correct," "adult-oriented," or "toilet humor trash," there is much reluctancy to mention he said it on O&A. but from the articles MouseTrapDiva linked, it seems that a lot of news outlets are mentioning O&A. i think news programs on television leave out O&A because they need to streamline a story. Leyritz admitting to using HGH is the story, him admitting it on O&A isn't pertinent to the rest of the story.

Notwithstanding the lack any omissions by some reports that Leyritz made his comments on O&A, why is this big news in baseball? Drug testing in the game was a joke and still is, to a degree. Players got away with it then because they could without fear of penalty. Was it cheating then to take amphetamines? Probably.
However, I think we may need to draw a distinction between cheating to enhance your career for the next big contract and cheating to be able to perform in a game when you are not at your best. Leyritz never elaborated as to whether or not he took those "little helpers" to feel better in other games. I'm guessing he did. Regardless, it did not make him a full time starter, net him any All Star games, or even help him to hit more than 30 home runs a year.
For me, as a baseball fan, steroids and HGH are more of an issue than whether or not some players took some "little helpers" 10 years ago when it wasn't illegal. For all we know, those pills could have been OTC dietary supplements which had legal amounts of amphetamines. These indignant writers need to worry less about Leyritz's comments and more about steroids and HGH.
