The main reason I hate reality tv is everyone always hams it up a little bit because they have a camera in their face. Tourgasm was no exception. In my opinion the only way to get "real" reality tv is for there to be hidden cameras without anyone knowing the camera's are there.

That being said, I actually enjoyed Tourgasm. As much as I can enjoy a reality show anyway.

Dane filmed it as a movie to be released in theaters originally, then it was supposed to go out on DVD, and it kept getting pushed back.... then HBO contacted him to do a special & they bought it, made it a weekly series & they are going to wrap it up with the HUGE show that he did in Boston (that I was at!!!!)

The knee audio is 100% from the Tourgasm footage. They went into the story in depth last year, whenever it was originally played. Hell I think Dane called the show almost the day after it happened.

I don't love Dane Cook and I think it's pretty interesting that he's got an HBO show right after Louis CK's, considering that Dane might have used some of CK's material on Retaliation. I thought he was good on Tourgasm though and it looks like they're showing a really honest version of the tour, which I respect and think is pretty cool. This should definitely have been a 2 comic tour.... I met Jay and Gary in Baton Rouge last summer while they were doing this tour and both gave me severe douche chills. Jay is about 5'6" and wears hlogram-looking club shirts and Gary does his hair with a Penzoil soaked comb. I hope they only brought these two tools along for the cringe factor.

I just finished watching the first episode. I really agree with Norton that the inclusion of Lemonhead was brilliant. Everyone seems to have a good rapport then you include Frank fucking Burns which lets Bobby shine even more.

However, I think I prefer Comedians of Comedy more.

I agree, 15 year old girls will get more out of this show than fans of good comedy. It's great in the fact that this kind of thing hasnt really been done before (that i know of..) so it's nice to see the behind the scenes of comedy shows, but I think that they dramatized it a little too much.

Since there was nothing on regular TV, I decided to browse my OnDemand programming menu. To my surprise, I found a new HBO series available called Tourgasm. I think to myself, “Sweet. A porn about rock stars nailing random groupies. This should be pretty good!” So I press play, and that’s when things started to go downhill.


I was shocked to find that this has NOTHING to do with any sort of “gasm” at all. In fact, it’s a documentary about Dane Cook, the guy that totally bombed at the MTV VMAs last year in Miami. Somehow, the dude sold a few albums and decided that it would be cool to go on a national college tour with his shitty comedian friends and film it. Little did Dane know that this would result in one of the worst TV shows in HBO’s history. It’s even worse than the episode of Real Sex where they had clowns boning each other**.

The show features four comedians at “different points of their careers” (read: the point right before they’re smashed over the head with the wide end of my shovel, stuffed in a burlap sack, and thrown into oncoming traffic):




Gary Gulman:

Gary Gulman’s only distinction in life is that he is a 6’6” Jew. On average, most Jews only grow to about 5’4”, thus making Gulman a Super Jew, a distinction held by very few, most notably, Larry Bird, the first Jew to ever play basketball. He’s the least annoying person in the show (as he doesn’t get nearly any face time, as his gigantic nose is stuffed up Dane Cooks ass) except the fact that when asked about his short career as an accountant he had this to say:




“I was an accountant for two and a half years. But I was completely incompetent and really unmotivated...thank god.”




Funny, the same thing could easily be said about his standup career. His only good bit is some bullshit about the birth control pill. Too bad he’s been telling it since his unsuccessful stint on Last Comic Standing.

Jay Davis:



The next guy up is Jay Davis. His act could easily be a reenactment of the Battle of Britain considering the staggering amount of bombs he drops. Here’s a notable gem:




“They should have named Hurricane Katrina after my ex-girlfriend -- Hurricane Bitch!!!”




With jokes like that, no wonder he’s the tour’s whipping boy. During the course of the show he does everything in his power to earn the label “Weeping Little Twat.” In one part of the episode he explodes at the others for discussing pornography on the bus. Then there’s some blurb about him going celibate. But incase any of this caused you to question his sexuality, he quickly assures America that he may have some difficulty abstaining because he “can’t get enough of the ladies.” Once the camera stopped rolling, he promptly got on his knees and fellated the cameraman. To make things worse, this pantloade was getting ribbed by one of his tour mates and he started to cry. I couldn’t believe it. If I were Dane, I would have thrown him off the bus right there, or at least snapped one of his shins. This bleeding cunt is about as masculine as a lactating boob. It’s a good thing he’s undoubtedly gay because the last thing we need in this country are more whiney little bitches like him. How the fuck would we win the war against the Chinese?

Robert Kelly:

If there is one guy on this tour that needs to be hit by a train it’s definitely Robert Kelly. Dude was the worst guest on Collin Quinn’s legendary late night show Tough Crowd with Collin Quinn. He was even worse than the obligatory female guests he’d have on the show. At least Judy Gold would let the other guests touch her boobs. I wouldn’t want to touch Robert Kelly’s boobs, which are pretty big I might add. Whenever he’d get on the show the whole episode would degrade into an unfunny shouting match which would conclude with Kelly putting his foot in his mouth. I wish just ONE TIME he’d keep it there while the other panelists close his nostrils. On Tourgasm he’s introduced as “The Instigator,” because he’s pretty decent at pissing off the other tour members, more specifically Jay Davis. Normally, I wouldn’t have a problem with him picking on a little twat like Davis, but the fact that he apologized makes me want to take a hockey stick to his knee caps. Being an obnoxious bastard is probably the only good thing he does during the show, because his standup isn’t anything to write home about. In one bit he rants:




“Why can't we catch Osama bin Laden? Why can't we catch that skinny little crack-addicted Santa Claus-looking bitch?”




Wow. Pretty insightful. This is some really edgy shit, bruh… I mean, going after Bin Laden is cutting it pretty close. You know who’s another bearded bitch worth ridiculing? Robert Kelly’s mother. This stupid broad actually held him in her rotten womb for 9 months when she had the perfectly viable option of throwing herself down a staircase. On top of birthing him, she actually had the nerve to raise the little shit. What a dumb skag.


Dane Cook:

Now, throughout the show Dane Cook states “This is not a contest…” This is probably because if it were, he would be Michael Jordan, and the other guys would be Greg Ostertag. Needless to say, Dane Cook is the best comedian on the show. But being the best comedian on Tourgasm is like being the least smelly piece of shit in a public restroom; in the end of the day, you’re still a piece of shit. Any funny thing that Dane Cook may have said in the past does not make up for the fact that every single time he’s been allowed on TV, he’s bombed. Don’t believe me? Look at this photographic evidence:





Obviously from this anyone can gather that Greg Ostertag is pretty fucking stupid, also, it’s pretty apparent that Dane Cook’s routine is about as lame as Greg’s haircut. But Dane’s jokes aren’t his worst aspect… I would wager the worst thing about Dane Cook is probably the sharp pain I get in my knuckles as I put my fist through his skull.





Overall, the show is pretty bad. The best part of the episode I saw was when Dane Cook took a pretty nasty spill on the electric scooters they were driving. For a moment, I though he might have died, or at least punctured a lung, but much to my chagrin, he was fine.




When the episode was done, I was pretty pissed. I had seen a grown ass man cry, Dane Cook acting like a dumbass, some guys throw fish around, and clips of some really crappy standup… but no chicks. Despite Cook’s inexplicable popularity with young women***, there were ZERO women worth noting in this episode. Not one scantily clad woman of ill repute was to be found. It was disheartening. The show did nothing to warrant the “gasm” suffix in its title. Nothing even boner worthy (though, the fall was pretty close). After everything was said and done, I fumbled around the OnDemand menu and found that they made a sequel to Busty Cops. I watched it as I manipulated my nutsack with the trimmer shaft. Sure it almost ripped the skin off, but even that was more entertaining than Tourgasm.





Final Word:

Tourgasm is basically an unfunny version of The Comedians of Comedy. Everyone involved with the production of Tourgasm deserves to be stabbed in the gut with a broken No. 2 pencil. Normally, I’d give this show a rating out of 10 points, but I can’t do that because I don’t think they make a number that goes low enough to express how shitty this program really is. However, after watching one episode I’ve come to the conclusion that:




A sandwich made out of used feminine napkins > Tourgasm

Dane Cook is a too cool for the room bag of douche and just unfunny, plain and simple.

Bobby Kelly is hilarious, but I'd rather hear him on O & A or see him live. Even the "broke my knee man" bit was a let down...funnier when the b-b-b-boys fucked with him over it - "hold my hand, man". All this fake serious "oh my God, I hope Bobby is OK" shit was some of the worst 'reality TV' I've ever seen. The fucking fake drama made me want to puke. It was like "The Real World". If I wanted to watch a bunch of faggots high five each other and hug, I'd at least have the honesty to watch gay porn.

All in all, sorry Bobby - I know this means a lot to you. But the show truly eats balls.

To me Dane's comedy doesn't hold up after mutiple listens of the same set...It loses it punch really quick...At least to me...I love comedy cd's and as much as I enjoyed his discs (and his show when i saw him live) for the first few listens it doesn't compare for me to stuff like Dave Attell or Mitch Hedberg in the long run...

i think the same way. i just see this entire thread shitting on dane but i think he is funny. this show is really showcasing the stand up acts though which is my only problem with it. its still fine though

Dane has a certain demographic that is not quite in line with the O&A demo. That said, I do think the show is funny, but only 'cause I've toured with a band enough to appreciate the shit they go through. When you spend 30 days on tour and only 40 minutes of each day is on stage, you get a little batshit crazy - Seeing them fuck with each other during their downtime is entertaining to me.

Most people don't realize that this was filmed for one DVD and then ended up being sold to HBO who recut it as a TV series. I'm sure if it was filmed with the intention of making a series out of it from the get-go it wouldn't seem so fragmented.

This show stinks. I agree with most of you that I don't find Dane funny. I do get a few chuckles from him. Jay Davis and Gilman are out right awful. Gilman should have never been allowed to come back. Tours like this are hugh for your career as a comic and you leave in the middle well fuck you and don't come back. The tons of great comics looking for that same oppertunity and they never get it. Bobby Kelly was the most entertaining.
