We're coming up to do the walk soon. Need some advice as to the 'simplest' way into the city. Leaning towards taking AmTrak into Penn Station out of Philly, but my big question is are their any other places we can pick up a train that don't involve driving a car into NYC? Like a nice place out in the light suburbs? Never been to the city, so we'll make nice targets.

Simplifying my question, what's the best way to get from SC Pennsylvania to 57th street if you don't want to drive in town?

take the e train to 53 and 7th (stop is offically called 7th avenue) and walk north to 57 and 7th and turn right (east) and walk to 57th between 6th and fifth. I think it's 140 west 57th. That's where the Free FM show ends and the walk over begins going to 57th between 6th and 7th.

I would get there @ 8:30 or so.

Or you can take the A or C trains to 59th and broadway and walk south to 57th and turn left...either way it's your call.

Note, the trains out of penn are crowded as hell so leave time in case you have to wait for the next train.

The blue trains (a, c, e) are located on the 8th avenue side of penn..

good luck bro.

Amtrack is your best bet.

There might be a bus but we all know who takes the bus (witch way is norff?)

thanks guys, a bus is another option, but the only one that would get us there in time would put us there at 4:00 am. Little early to be loose on the streets I'd imagine. Greyhound station is at 41st and 8th ave?

good luck bro.

Port Authority is the worst place in the city for out of towners @ 4AM.... honestly...Penn Station is a bit better because of extra security...but that hour is tough.

Not much is open at that hour... the only people in the city between 4AM and 6AM are cops and criminals.

what time does the train get in? i know it's more money but does it come in after 6AM?

remember it's the city that never sleeps...that's why it looks like shit in the morning.

Ah don't be a pussy, NYC never sleeps. Midtown has got cops swarming over it 24/7, especially the PA. Grab a cuppa coffee at an all night place and chill out till 8am. then grab a cab or the subway and you'll be there in plenty of time.

I always drive into Manhatten and just find a place to park it for the
day or weekend and just use the subways. It's never bothered me to drive
into the city but it is silly to continue to do so once you get there.

Exactly right. During many parts of the day you can walk around the block faster than you can drive.

how's "dutch wonderland?"

i used to go there when i was a kid.

Ain't been there since I was a kid either, but I do drive by it all the time. Still as hokey as ever, but then again it is a kids' park. Hershey bought it a couple years ago; that way they had an excuse to phase out the kiddy rides at Hershey Park. If you've got small kids, go to dutch wonderland since there's really nothing at all for them at Hershey any more. If you haven't been down that strip of rte 30 in a few years, you wouldn't recognize it. Christ, I go a couple weeks without driving through there and I don't even recognize it.

Looks like a bus into NYPA is going to be the route we'll probably go. The train line we sit on doesn't run overnight, so to make the walkover we'd either have to get to Penn Station at midnight, or leave from 30th street in Philly. By the time we drive into and park in Philly, we might as well drive to New York. Probably safer.

Bus coming out of reading at 5:00 am getting to NYPA at 8:15 is cutting it really late I think, but there's two out of Kutztown at 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. that look just about perfect; arriving at 6:45 and 7:15 am. Driving to and leaving a car in Kutztown is much more our cup of tea.

Thanks again baggers for everything.

Hey if you get there that early you could go catch a nap with Mack in the subway.

I remember going to Dutch Wonderland as a kid but would much rather go to Dorney Park.
