Here's that phone Jimmy was talking about on the show today. If they could get XM and my blackberry functionality to work on it I'd buy that shit.

Samsung V770: First 7-megapixel camera phone
Imagine a camera phone that takes snaps that you can blow up to over A3 size without any loss of quality. Well, Samsung’s V770 does exactly that!

We’ll soon be saying sayonara to mobiles with weedy 2-megapixel in-built snappers. Samsung has unveiled the 7-megapixel SCH-V770 camera phone – the first handset of its kind to produce the sorts of quality pics that you could only otherwise achieve with a high-end standalone digital camera.

The V770 is hardly a lard-arse either, tipping the scales at just 180g (the same as a 60GB iPod Photo). That said it’s heavy on features. As well as automatic shooting, there’s a full set of manual functions available, including manual focussing and exposure tinkering.

Its 2-inch TFT-LCD screen looks stunning up close, and is capable of reproducing up to 16 million colours. It also features a 3x optical zoom, and has been designed to house an additional set of external lenses. There’s 32MB of memory built-in, and an MMC micro slot for extra storage. Plus it can take 320x240 video footage at 15-30 frames per second.

Samsung has confirmed that the V770 will be launched in Europe. However it also mentioned that it could take up to a couple of years for this model hit UK shores! We won’t hold our breath then.

In similar news Samsung has confirmed that its 3GB MP3 mobile phone (the i300) will be arriving in the UK soon. Stay tuned for more on Samsung’s range of super phones coming soon

Jesus Christ, it is a phone, not a god damn camera. All this does is bring the 'loud cell phone guy' and 'camera jerkoff' into one uber annoying asshole. All I need my cell phone to do is call and recieve calls.

What everyone forgets is that most people have absolutley NO need for a 7 megapixel camera. If you never print larger than 5x7 or post to the web, which is the vast majority, 2 megapixel is fine. All the rest just means you have to upgrade your computer.

Phones are for phoning.

Cameras are for camera-ing.

but...

If you're gonna put em together they should be the best they can be. The fuck-o's in electronic marketing spoon feed versions to the consumer to milk the market. First they release an item with some cool features, then they put out a new version with even cooler features/faster/better a few months later. Its all a marketing scam. As can be seen with these camera phones.

Another inconvenient fact is that more than 80% of the rest of the world has a better wireless cell phone infrastructure than we do here in the US. Thus we are rich cash cows who can't use all the functionality of these instruments yet anyway.

Big corporations suck.

Are we the few people in America who aren't completely inconvenienced to carry a phone AND a camera? I have a phone in my pocket or on my belt, and if I happen to want to take pictures I have a digital camera in a bag or my other pocket.

I have an iPod in another pocket or the same bag. XM in the car. I really don't feel inconvenienced in the least. I don't feel I need one $2000 gadget that puts them all together. It's one more thing to lose, and when you lose it you lost 3 or 4 gadgets instead of 1.

I can carry my phone and my 7.2 megapixel camera together and take up less space than that saved by the bell piece of shit.

Good point there. I'm actually the same way. I pretty much roll the same way, XM in the car, Ipod & digital camera in the bag, Blackberry and phone on my hip.

It will be here eventually. Why? because megapixels = sales. Most idiots assume more megapixels = better picture. The two have very little if anything to do with eachother.

Yeah 3-4mp is max what most people need. And me I'd rather have my My Fi, my phone, and camera seperate. I loose to much shit as it is.

I like having the camera on my phone, thats only because I like having the ability to take pics wherever I go. I have a nice collection of car crashes not related to O & a.
