Battlefield 2 is good times
Day of Defeat
Quake 4
Call of Duty 2
FEAR
UT Series
Star Wars Battlefront Series
In no particular order:
Halflife 2 (Old school style with next gen goodness)
Counterstrike Source (It's counterstrike. need I say more?)
Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood (Great WW2 squad based combat)
SWAT 4 (more great squad based combat in an urban setting)
Farcry (brilliant free roaming levels. Very non-linear approach to progressing through most missions)
Battlefield 2 (You know Battlefield, this one's modern day)
Unreal Tournament 2004 (Great twitch action for multiplayer)
F.E.A.R. (Very well polished singleplayer experience. Scary shit)
Call of Duty 2 (Great WW2 experience. I'm a Brothers in Arms fan, but you gotta give props to a great game)
Star Wars: Republic Commando (Very linear, but I enjoyed it)
Also, a couple non FPS games that have been consuming my life. Worth a try:
Hitman: Blood Money (Play as an assasin. Lots of ways to kill your targets. Well worth a try)
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (Incredible First Person Action RPG. Huge open environment, lots of characters to interact with. Good story to fallow, and the combat is actually enjoyable)
Half-Life 2
Half-life 2 Episode 1
F.E.A.R.
Doom 3
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault series

dude try americas army, it 's free, and fun to play.
I can't believe no one said Halo 2 yet.
The Brothers in Arms series are great. I like the missions more or only playing with tatically minded people. I hate people that just rush you and respawn and do it again. It really takes the fun out of the game.

Star Wars Battlefront II is great - love to kill Jawas and Ewoks - or Rebel Soldiers as a Wampa

Multiplayer:
UT2004 still the best value of any MP game at $10
Battlefield 2 and its associated expansions
Unreal 2 Xpanded Multiplayer (aka XMP): You can download this as a stand alone from most bit torrent sites. Theres also a version for UT2k4 as a mod
Joint Operations: The poor mans Battlefield with true co-op. Lotta fun.
Tribes 1 & 2: arguably one of the best MP games of all time
Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, HL2 deathmatch I'm thoroughly burned out on these but the kids seem to like them.... :icon_roll
C&C Renegade Old game that preceeds the whole combined arms era yet is still very fun despite the low end graphics. Your basically playing Command and Conquer in the FPS mode. Why EA has ignored a sequel to this I have no idea.....
Star Wars Battlefront Fast and fun combined arms (aka "Battlefield" series in space)
Kingpin Deathmatch The game isn't sold in stores anymore so you'll have to download this one. Quake 2 era graphics yet it still has plenty of people playing its "bagman" and deathmatch gametypes online.
Red Faction CTF destructable environments and varied weapons = addiction.
_____________________________________________
Singleplayer: I'll avoid the obvious ones (HL2, TES: Oblivion etc) that are already mentioned. heres some that are old but still fun or newer but may go under your radar:
_____________________________________________
Chronicles of Riddick: Simply excellent game that was popular with hardcore gamers but not many others. Approaches games like HL2 in quality.
Deus Ex You can find this for free on some old magazine cover discs or our old friend, bittorrent.
Carmageddon 1 & 2 The GTA series owes more to this IP than Rockstar cares to admit. A blast.
Painkiller The best game of 2004 IMHO. Amazing art direction/level design and advanced physics.
Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings Great tutorial along with great gameplay and isn't overly complicated like AoE III is with its Euro city function etc.
NFS: Porsche Unleashed You'd think a game with all one marque in it would be dull but its far from it. use a FF wheel for the best experience.
Trackmania Sunrise & TM: Nations (free): rare game that is appropriate for the entire spectrum of gamer for all ages. Nearly unlimited amount of gameplay.
Freedom Fighters Great 3rd person shooter with a cheesey storyline similar to "Red Dawn".
No One Lives Forever 1 & 2
Blood (original): goofy old skool shooter with tons of hidden areas and over the top gibbage. B2 wasn't bad but it lacked the dark humor of the original.
