So my two and a half year old (like it's a person) decided to just not work anymore. It seems the buttons have malfunctioned leaving me with no way to control the thing. Other than that the thing works fine because I can charge it. Does anyone here have any experience with this problem and can help me solve it? I thought the battery would be the first to go, not the internal parts. I tried to go to the apple store in roosevelt field. Big help they are. You have to make an appointment. I just snaked in and got my answer (which they probably say 100 times a day)... "no warrenty, you can trade it in for 10 percent off your next purchase". Basically my warrenty is up and there is nothing i can do about it. Fucking apple. I was thinking about writing a nasty letter or making a nasty call to apple but there is no email address or phone number to be found. What kind of company has no customer service. I don't care if they are too hip for the room and want everything to be sent on a form over the internet. Hire a room full of indians and answer my damn questions. With no IPOD it makes it harder to listen to o and a and that pissed the fuck out of me. Please help.
And secondly. Because the buttons on my ipod are shot I can still salvage the songs on the thing. I have to put them back on my computer and then send them over to another computer on the same "network". However, i don't officially have a network. Is there a quick way to send songs from one computer to another? I've heard rumors of sharing files, but i have no idea of how to get the computers on the same page to make this work.
fucking apple.

There's a program out there called ephpod. You can get music off of your Ipod and drop onto any other computer. I used it to "share" music from my friends' Ipods.

Did you know that you can authorize up to 5 computers to play and drag & drop songs onto your Ipod? I just found this out last year. You should also set your Ipod to manually update instead of auto-update when it's connected to your comp if you plan on using multiple computers.

it might not be the buttons, it mightve just been frozen did you try restarting it?

I don't think its frozen because it charges when i plug it in. do frozen ipods do that?

Sure do. Try to reset.
If that does nothing, you can always just get a new wheel off of eBay for like 20-25$ and install it yourself. You do not have a warranty, so it does not really matter.

Not sure, the first time mine froze I let it run out of batteries and then it started working, every other time it locked up on me I held down the middle button and the top button and it restarted, sometimes after that its still frozen I have a very tempermental ipod, it stopped working for 4 months and then magically started working again, still freezes all the time though.

I had a 2 year old 40gb IPOD and the hard drive died on it two months ago. The parts for it off ebay were only $40 or so, and Best Buy said it'd be $200. Thankfully I had warranty still and I got a new shiny 60gb video Ipod as a replacement.

ipods are a scam, my harddrive 'died' a month after my warranty ran out, they told me it was a hardware problem, turns out you can buy a hardrive for about 160 and have it installed for a total of the price of a new ipod, whether you go through apple or any other company. I didnt touch the ipod for a few months and it miraculously started working again...
I didn't want to start a new thread on this, but how do you guys clean your click wheels? Mine is dirty as hell. I just tried alcohol and nothing. I tried water. Nothing. Added soap. Nothing. Any suggestions?

The click wheel is basically soft vinyl, so I figure a diluted cleaner for vinyl or naugahyde should work. Like maybe some diluted Armor-All for car seats.
I do not believe I will ever buy an IPod. I figure I can still use my $30 Sony MP3/CD player, and it won't skip, because it will be cushioned by the cash I still have in my pocket from NOT buying an IPod.

So my ipod is fixed. It's a miracle I tell you. Apple finally gave me a break and opened up the damn thing and realized the hold switch was freezing the ipod every time it was switched on hold. They unfroze it and told me not to toggle it to hold. My solution is black electrical tape over the top of that switch. Maybe it'll start a fad.
thats the update on that.
Secondly. How do i connect two or three computers on a home network. I have songs on my computer that i want to send to another computer through a network of some sort. I've tried all day to figure out how to make these computers connect with absolutely no luck whatsoever. I understand the right click share part of it. It is the fact that other other computers don't seem to know that one of my computers wants to share the files (why am i personifying the computer? I want the other computers to know that the other computer needs to share the files).
Any help would be great
