THE folks at Infinity Broadcasting kicked popular shock jocks Opie and Anthony off the air over last month’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral sex scandal, but the company still has to pay their hefty salaries. According to a source close to the canceled talk show, Infinity bigwigs can’t figure out how to get out of their reported three-year, $30 million contract with Greg “Opie” Hughes and Anthony Cumia without having to pay them a king’s ransom. “Everyone’s still on the payroll,” the tipster tells PAGE SIX’s Ian Spiegelman. Even comic Jim Norton, an O&A staple, is still receiving regular paychecks while lawyers for both sides try to hammer out details about how to part ways. If it goes to court, Infinity will surely claim the company had sufficient cause to cancel the show after Hughes and Cumia broadcast a blow-by-blow description of a couple having sex at St. Pat’s as part of their “Sex for Sam” contest. But Opie and Anthony can argue that every detail of the contest was approved by company brass before the segment aired. An Infinity rep declined to comment, while the jocks’ agent did not return calls.

I lost count on how many times I have heard the show. And I never heard the play by play with the sex stunt. I did hear Paul yelling and being a pain but that was it.

you know what teh funniest part about this is? Norton was only put on payroll like 2 weeks before teh show got cancelled. He really lucked out on that one.. and Infinity got screwed. :D

Infinity also does not want them going to competion and kicking their ass. I do not know what’s it worth to them though. To keep them under contract but not working. If infinity cannot break their contract, then its up to oa what they want to do.

The article said that lawyers on both sides were trying to hammer out a deal for them to part ways. If the article is true, then it's not an issue of Infinity trying to keep them from going to their competitors.

They want both , to be paid for the remainder of the contract and get back on the AIR ASAP. Sounds like their lawyer made sure of alot of clauses in their contract. hence...... they always win in the end!! :P LOL

Not being a Lawyer and being a listener of the show, it sounds that an "approved bit" by the statio equals Infinity is shit out of luck!

Espically(sp?) since this was the 3rd time the bit was done... The guys lawyers can say that Infinity was behind it all the way.

I would think the biggest item to resolve would be the No Compete clause. O&A want to come back ASAP, Infinity
would want to delay that as long as possible.

Would it be a violation of their contract if, say, oh I don't know, Jim Breuer were to get his own syndicated radio show and had O&A and Norton on as "Regular Guests"? So long as they were still on Infinity's payroll I don't see where there would be a problem...

It seems to me, and I could be very wrong, but it seems that there are two ends of a spectrum. O & A could leave their contract outright, including non-compete AND salary. OR they could stay under contract, get paid, but not work. Both sides would like it all for themselves O & A to get paid and still be able to go on air, infinity to not pay and not have them on the air, so the lawyers have to work out a solution.
