I was wondering if anyone else has problems with the unit? I haven't contacted them yet, but it gets stuck on channels and Many times the pauseing and rewind features won't work...Also when I try to record now it almost always messes up. I have to push the red reset button at least twice a day...

The new DVR boxes are total crap. I have a hacked TiVo box and unless DirectTv plans to force an upgrade I'd never change it.

I've still got the old tivo one, and never have a problem. My friends got the new fangled one and bitches about it all the time.

Directv split from TIVO for their DVR's? I have 1 Directv Tivo DVR and another 2 stand alone TIVO units that I connect to the Directv receivers with no problems.

You need to have 2 cable runs to the dish or multiplexer. The dual-tuner won't work with a single run.

Holy shit, that's beat. I'm moving to my mom's and she's got DirecTV. I was going to get a DVR for it and the NFL sunday ticket package. She wants to go back to cable when I move in, and I was going to argue until I read that and the rest of this thread. NFL sunday ticket rules, and I would LOVE to catch all the Packers games, but it doesn't seem worth all the trouble of DirecTV. Fuck, when are we going to get to watch the live football game of our choice either on PPV or on NFL.com or something.

OK, so I've moved back to good 'ol Mom's house, and she has DirecTV. Since I'm a huge Packers fan, I have to jump at the chance to get the sunday ticket and catch all the games this season. The downside is the DVR service and all the shit quoted above. Besides the fact that I'd need to get the upgraded dish and have 2 extra lines run to record 2 shows at once, it seems that the new NON-Tivo units are garbage.
I called DirecTV today and they wanted to charge me $99 PER DVR box (we just need 2) and I told them that was entirely too much and I would not pay it. They transferred me to promotions dept. who offered me 2 boxes for $99 and the rebate would be instant, not mail-in. So, I went on eBay and looked at the older DirecTV/Tivo units and they seem to be going for $99 each at lowest BIN price.
So, what do I do? Get 2 new non-Tivo units for $99, or buy myself just one older Tivo style for my bedroom for the same price? Can someone really describe in detail what is better about the Tivo units and what the issues are with the newer ones?

my rca one just blew out last week. it was stuck on the boot up screen. directv happily sent me an updated brand new one, and didn't even ask me to send back the old one.

I have all almost new Hughes receivers, and I can get a DirecTV/Tivo for $100 on eBay, but thanks anyway.

They never ask for the receivers back because they say you own them. Why you still have to pay a monthly fee for a box you own and never have to give back, is beyond me.

w00t! I just got a free DVR box from DirecTV by simply calling and saying, "I want a DVR, but I don't want to pay for it. Is there anything you can do for me?." They girl asked if I like baseball and I told her no. She tells me in a very cute and sarcastic tone that because I am SUCH a big fan of MLB, I qualify for a free DVR. I was like ooohhhhh. "As a matter of fact I AM a very big MLB fan, and thank you for your wonderful promotion." In addition to that, the technician is coming out to run a 2nd line from the dish to the DVR box free of charge, so I can record 2 shows at once. I also ordered NFL sunday ticket to watch my beloved Packers this football season. Anyone got a spare DirecTV DVR box to give or sell me for my other TV, Tivo or non-Tivo? I couldn't get them to give me a 2nd free one.
