I've been playing WoW for a few months and I think its a pretty cool game but I'm considering EQ2 because of its deph and it doesn't look like a cartoon like WoW. I love the scenery in WoW (like stormwind and iron forge), the transportation is in real time and you see everything, and the PvP in the arenas and PvP in gerneral is pretty cool. How does EQ2 work with transportation and PvP?

KakTheInfected
06-30-2006, 04:38 PM
The transportation is not there so you can see everything, it's there so you have to play longer.

I'd say go for WoW over EQ2. Heard nothing but bad things about EQ2.

WoW by far. EQ2 is ok but WoW is just more fun to play. I agree with JonBenet, be careful about who you do instances with or you could end up pretty pissed off.

WoW is great in that it pulls all the dorks away from the really immersive fun MMOs

Edit: Oh, and as for the questions. EQ2 is realmcentric. There are a couple PVP servers where it's realm vs realm. The rest are PVE. Each realm is connected to each other through a series of zones. Low level characters have to walk most everywhere but higher level characters can get skills that can port them around the zones. For a few silver you can buy tickets to the hub zones from your starting zone.

If you're curious just get the demo off their website.

WoW. After 4 years of EQ1, I could not go back. I am glad I moved on. As lame as this sounds, WoW is a very easy game, especially compared to EQ1. I like the ease of the game. It makes things so much more enjoyable, since I am not a hardcore gamer, and I hate grinding. I have gotten to level 55 in WoW, and I have only grouped once. Quests can take you all the way throguh the game, and that rules.

Well I am a level 19 mage on the azgalor server and it is fun I must say but It is hard to be part of a guild simply because of there other higher levels, perhaps you can only really do something with a guild when your level 60. I also heard that when you are 60 is there the real fun begins. Anyone vouch for that? Let me know what you've been doing regularly at that level.

Nothing will ever replace EQ for me. I played for a long long time. After 6 months of playing WoW I had a full set of the best gear that you could get... so did 100's of other people. There is no customization, no world feel because of everything being instanced, and it is just stupid easy.

EQ2 caught my attention for a month when it first came out. Trying to compare it to my EQ experience was just silly, so I really hated it. Lasted about 25ish levels and said fuck it.

I'd have to go with WoW.

The major complaint I have with the game (and the reason I recently cancelled my sub) is that once you're max level, it's really impossible to do much of anything without joining a 40-man raid and spending five hours.

PVP is a good way to earn good gear, but very time consuming. A shit load more fun than doing raids though.

Exactly my case too. I played EQ1 for years... got a char up to lvl 50 after like 2 years.

Played wow... got a char up to lvl 56 in about 2 months. Fun as hell... always finding something new to do.

I tried EQ2 for a few months, and it was just waaaaaay too involved. I didn't like it at all... and I tried to, since I was so addicted to EQ1.

WoW's graphics and overall feel just bored the living shit out of me. I literally fell asleep the both times I tried to give it an honest shot. Everquest 2 just seemed a more mature and richer experience. I know it's shallow to choose graphics over gameplay but a games' visuals are a big part of the immersion for me and its something I can't ignore (the crafting is much deeper too).

I guess if I were a chick it would be like choosing a big cock over character......I suppose you can say I'm a dirty whore.... :action-sm

EQ2 is a piece of shit.

WoW and FFXI are both good (if not dated, especially FFXI).

But WoW is more of the "casual gamer's MMO", being somewhat easy to get into and play, and it doens't require tons of time.

FFXI is for gamers who don't mind a high learning curve and the need to put a lot of time into it.

and well worth it for wow. i always thought i wasn't big enough of a dork for an mmorpg but then i got wow after i had friends telling me about it since it came out and i love it. plus you don't have to get too nuts if you don't want. i'm in a guild and i don't have to play 50 hours a week or shit like that. plus killing and skinning things makes me happy.

Guild Wars is fun and far more skill based than WoW but...it's kind of hard to ignore how limited some of it is.

On the subject of WoW, my Warrior is named Richvos (I regret picking the name now that I've actually put a lot of work into the character, he was rank 12 before and going for 14 now) and NOBODY knows the name on Nathreizm. I also have a 30 Druid (Billburr) and a 15 Hunter (Jimnorton).

Not sure if it'll work or not... but have someone send a complaint to a GM that your name is a real life person's name. It violates the TOS, and you'll get an email in-game politely requesting you to change it. That way you can keep the character but change his name. Don't worry, they won't ban you or anything. For every Anthony-esque GM with a trigger-happy banning "finnnnger," there's an Opie-esque GM next to him telling him not to ban anyone.

Do any MMORPG's have limited time servers, where players can't play more than x hours a day? I know I'm a natural addict at heart so I avoid MMORPG's, but I'm really itching to play one. I just wish there were a way to force myself to not play more than 2 hours a day.

I played WoW since release and quit only about 1 month ago. It's a quality game but I just got a little bored with it after playing it for so long. In my time playing I leveled a rogue and priest to 60, got the priest to pvp rank 11, got the rogue in a bunch of raid epics and got exhalted with more factions then I care to think about. Once you get to level 60 (which doesn't take very long) there are tons of things to do. Raiding can take alot of time but pvp is fun and with the multi realm battle grounds you can always get in a game quickly so you don't need to have a lot of time to sit down and pvp, you just need to have a lot of time to rank up.

With the new expansion coming in the near future it looks like the game is going to be making some changes for the better, which is basically making raiding less time consuming and eaiser to get into. Also the pvp honor system is getting a very needed overhaul.

I'd reccomend this game to anyone just make sure you have friends to play with or get into a guild that you enjoy socializing with.

WoW kicks EQ2s ass, it just takes forever to get all the gear, I find it hard to believe people had all the best gear after 6 months. I play on a few servers but mainly azjol-nerub and was a member of one of the largest rading guilds on there and even the hard core ones didnt have all of their gear and thats with them playing 10-12 hours a day. The expansion is just gonna make this game bigger.

MilkmanDan

EQ2 much better graphically and raid encounter wise. Something missing though from EQ1 there.

WoW incredibly easy, decent PVP, tradeskills not a PITA. Too many 12 year olds.

Until the next big thing comes along, I'll stick with DAOC, the game both of them rips ideas off of.

Recovering Everquest addict here. Played for 6 years, I worked my way thru Kunark when it was new. Over to Velious, and countless nights in Time and full zone progression. My monk is full Demi-Plane geared with Mayong Title and better. We've killed Sol-Ro and that god damned hound before they tweaked it. Made a lot of friends, pissed a lot of people off and loved every moment of it. I'll never play another game that will ever compare to the fun times i had in EQ. But it's prettty dead now. Technology has come along way, but there will only ever be EQ.

I put in over 6 years on EQ as well. I made it to 70 with my rogue, back when 70 was the max level. I could never play that game again, since every one I know quit and I'm so far behind in levels and gear now.

Basically I have this to show for 6 years of work. My necro was made February 17, 2000 and my rogue was made September 4, 2001, after I got the necro banned (took me 4 years to get it unbanned)

You know your old school EQ when....
You sat in line for three hours waiting for single buffs and then running into Lord Nagafans lair and that first wave of Fear hits and your out the hall and half way to the Giants before it wears off. Than someone douch always ninja'd the freaking Cloak of Flames. There there was a shit storm of controversy and then the GM's got involved. God I miss that drama.

With Rise of Kunark coming out soon, I just cancelled WoW and resubbed EQ2. I'm kinda tired of raiding Karazhan and the PvP in the battlegrounds anyway.

BWA-HAHAHAHA!

Just kidding, I enjoy the final fantasy series, so I dig RPGs. I just can't afford to spend the time to build up a character in an MMORPG. 70+ hours on an FF game is long enough game play for me.

And an honest answer is WoW looks like more fun. EQ1 had a good run in popularity, but that didn't carry over to EQ2. EQ players went out for something new and picked up WoW.

I vote WoW.

I never got to kill Nagafen. Thats one of my main regrets in life. Since I shared an account and computer with my brother at the time, and he had a cleric he did the Naggy raids. Once they level restricted him he basically just turned into a way to get back to the zone in after killing the fire giants.

And I played on a PvP server, so we never had ninja loot problems. If someone did something like that, we'd camp his corpse in shifts until it rotted.

agreed. played EQ1 for 3 years, 70 DE necro, he owned. but i was sooo sick of the grind. tried WoW, and just loved how much easier it was to level and do things. no more 2 weeks of camping for 7 hours to get 1/2 my exp bar up.

i quit playing WoW though. ended my sub jan 7. i just don't play that much anymore.
