So, the wife and I went out to F.H. Riley's on Thursday night. I had been pestering her for a while to try it (like the good lil Pest I am).

We didn't know quite what to expect. I was thinking "American Bistro" what the hell is that? Beer and burger joint? Anyways, we pulled up to it and were not impressed with the outside. It looked like any other Long Island storefront bar and grill from the street. Clean, neat yes, but from the outside, nothing special.

When we went in we were greeted by the bartender and handed off to a pretty waitress named Rebecca. There were a bunch of people at the bar hanging out but the restaurant section in back had only two or three tables with people at them (This was a Thursday after all). The atmosphere was alright and right away we were struck by the menu. There was some really good stuff on there, definitely not the "bar food" that I had thought it would be. More like gourmet dishes!

I ordered the Cracked Calamari for appetizer and the Blackened Striped Bass for entree. The wife got the spinach and artichoke dip and the Hanger Steak. To put it mildly we were blown away with how good the food was. I've eaten in fine food restaurants around the country and this meal had to make it into the top 5 meals of all time. I was that impressed. I prefaced my remarks to the waitress when we sat down to tell her to "Tell Opie that his advertising works!" and by the time we left I was raving to her how good the food was!

We were so stuffed by the end of the meal we had to cram down some of the best cheesecakes that nature ever invented. Our stomachs said stop, but our taste buds wanted more!

O&A got me to this restaurant, the food will keep me going back. Excellent!!!

The price isn't cheap, but neither is the food, It was worth every penny.

(And I tipped 20% Paul you cheap fuck).

If you live on Long Island (or are within driving distance) and want a great meal go to this place, you will not be disappointed. I was thinking when we first went that it would be like my Paesano's experience, OK, but nothing to write home aboout, but I was wrong, this place's food is outstanding.

Thanks to Brett, Rebecca and whoever else works there for making this a GREAT time.

Just went there tonight for what I think was our 4th or 5th time. Took dad for a late father's day dinner. Everything I've had so far has been outrageously good. Had a gorgonzola crusted chicken dish tonight which was amazing. The spinach artichoke dip was fantastic, and everyone at our table loved all that they ordered. I've had the meatloaf there, which is great (you'll probably have to take 1/2 of it home though), the blackened striped bass, the autumn salad (AWESOME!) a ravioli dish and the chicken tonight. I would and do reccommend this place to anyone who can get there. I have friends that went with us in february and still talk about the food. Awesome staff, too. They're so friendly and pleasant without being all over you. It really is a great place to go for any occasion! We went for Valentine's day, my birthday, a friend's birthday and now Fathers Day (delayed)...it's definitely my favorite restaurant on the island!!!

I'm going on vacation to Nyc in August, how far from the "City" is Huntington?

Depending on traffic its about an hour to an hour and a half on the Long Island Expressway (I-495) to exit 49N (Route 110). Stay on 110 going north for about 15 minutes and you'll be in Huntington. Rt 110 has several names along this stretch, in Huntington its New York Avenue. F.H. Riley's is on the right side and is #400 New York Ave in Huntington Village. Extra parking in back.

Geez, I sound like I'm shilling for the place like I work there or something, but no, I'm just a fan of the food.

Go, you'll spend less than you would for a good meal in the "city" for far superior quality.

Heh heh heh... I had the meatloaf, too, and it was awesome.

I grew up in the NYC area but now live in Indiana. My GF is an O&A convert (thanks to me), and when we visited my parents in NY for my birthday (in early May), she insisted upon going to FHR for dinner on the night of my birthday. Naturally, I didn't argue.

I'd lived on the south end of Rte. 110 for two years (Massapequa) and worked at Farmingdale Apt. in the late 90's and knew the area relatively well, so it was nice to visit Huntington again for the first time in over five years. My GF and I saw a saturday matinee of Spamalot! and then we drove to Huntington for the evening. I brought out 8 of my old friends to dinner with us, so we had a party of 10 for a late dinner and we had a fabulous time. I had the meatloaf dish you mentioned and it was super-duper (though a bit more salty than I prefer), and everyone else enjoyed their meal as well. We, too, tipped 20% (FU Paul!) on a $300 dinner tab.

The only problem with the place was the cute, young hostess with the hot, lithe body. My GF was convinced that the hostess kept staring longingly at me during our dinner, which made her more than a little jealous... Well, come to think of it, that wasn't a PROBLEM as it led to some more-vigorous-than-normal "fun" in the Jericho Tpke. hotel later that night.

Thank you, cute, young hostess with the hot, lithe body. The only way you could've helped me more was if you'd given me your number. Luv ya.

Yes I know first impressions. I thought the place was way too small. But I was very happy with the menu, and will go back.

Its a 50 minute/$8 ticket on the LIRR out of Penn station. From there its a 2min/ 5 dollar cab ride. I dont see how that kills your entire night. At that Huntington is a nice town to spend a night. Worth the trip IMO.

I ate dinner there a few months ago and I was very impressed. I had the Black and Blue Tuna to start and the Roasted Lamb Chops for an entre. Brett really does a fantastic job, and the atmosphere puts it over the top.

This is all great to hear. I'm have to go out to Huntington with the GF. So as a reward I got to convince her to go to F.H. Riley's. We'll be there tonight (Monday). I'm looking forward to it more now than I have.

See ya there.

Not me personally, I grew up there. I just didnt agree with you that it was too much of a hassle to get there from the city. If somebody was a big O&A fan and wanted to eat there while vacationing in Manhatten, it wouldnt be a big deal. Thats all I'm saying.

Opie's bro is a great cook. When I played hockey in syosset we used to eat at Mims all the time. I believe he was the head chef or something. when he left the quality of the food when way down.

Immediately is not soon enough to rectify this grievous error of omission, sir.

When you go, make sure you try the mozzarella tower as an appetizer. It's a-fucking-mazing!

Was just at Riley's yesterday for the all you can eat pasta special. Excellent food, and I go to a lot of local restaurants and I have to honestly say without being biased that it's Opie's brother, Brett runs a great staff. They are always friendly, sociable, accommodating, which really makes the whole experience that much better. Had a great time as usual.

what does her hatred of OnA have to do with the quality of food at an establishment that for the most part neither have anything to do with?

And why do you have to go with her? Call some friends, tell them you're hungry & want to go out and then leave the beyatch at home.

If you can't do this simple task, you're destined to be pussy whipped for the rest of your life.

It was amazing pasta! All different combinations and you can pick and choose the kinds you want. I had an amazing penne in this wine/creme sauce with portobello mushrooms and fresh spinach and cheese.

Regular menu is awesome too, though. I never thought salmon with raspberry sauce would be good but was I proved wrong. I also wish I lived closer. It's a good 45 minutes or so to drive there from my house and to take the train about a half hour

LOL There's some great local restaurants near my job in NYC and if I have a craving sometimes for lunch or dinner after work, I have no problem going in and getting some of my favorite foods on my own. I've eaten lunch at Riley's on my own when I've been in the area running errands and stuff. Nothing wrong with it at all.
