This was a review I did for FoundryMusic.com on 9/13/01. It was a tough time for all of us, but O & A were there to get us all through each tragic day, as hopes for survivors were high. Those hopes would later dim. But, O & A helped us all express our views, and made us feel right. Thanks O & A!
God bless all the families who are without a member, and God bless the souls of those who departed. I love you all!
9/13/01- Our two friends, Opie & Anthony
The clock struck three on this the third day of terror and sadness. While the nation was picking up the pieces and mourning the loss of safety, landmarks, and most of all human life, Opie and Anthony once again got a lot of us through another long depressing day. They have made coping with this tragedy a lot easier for a lot of us. To hear the people call in with their opinions, stories, and even their loss, has truly made it easier on me and I am sure the rest of you. I just want to say I am feeling for all the victims and their families. God be with you.
The 5-6 hour started off with talks about how we are going to retaliate in this time of redemption. Some people just want bomb these villains into the depths of hell. Although a lot of people are just filled with rage. As much as they all want to bomb away, they reached a point where you just don't know who to bomb yet.
Afterwards their was a call from Blind Matt. He was going into how the story itself is just horrible. Also he works at a center where he helps people to adjust to their disabilities. He went into how people can come their and share time with others who have the same disability. He also brought up what Opie and Anthony may be perceived as after all of this. He said that they finally were showing their humane qualities. The truth is the guys are not trying to put on a radio show at this point. They are just reacting to the situation at hand, they are letting people call in and voice their opinion, let out their rage, and tell their stories. Which is exactly what has made people give them so much praise.
Minutes later we get shocked with a breaking CNN story about the fireman that were found alive in an SUV. The story winded up being false. This got O & A into a frenzy about what these news networks will do just to be the first to air a story. Believe it or not CNN actually sent out a press release gloating over their great ratings during this terrible time. Disgusting! By the way Adam Buckman wrote a story about this in the post, bashing CNN. I read it, he did an excellent job. Take a look for yourselves.
Then the boy's let a caller through who claimed he had proof Whitney Houston was dead. O & A just told him there is no way to confirm his information. Also there is a story on Yahoo! with her publicist saying in bold letters that she is not dead.
Later a story came in about a 71 year old man, with his nephew, taking their plane for a joyride over President Bush's ranch. Of course the plane was ordered to land. This guy is an ass. What a time to take your plane for a joyride. Bad timing? Just fucking stupid!
Later they had an update with Giuliani explaining that the fire fighters found in the rubble were not actually from the original missing. They had been part of the rescue crew who had gotten lost amongst the carnage.
The guys then touch on a report coming out of London, A Taliban radio station reported that the Afghanistan government is willing to hand over Osama Bin Laden to Islamic courts if the US can show them sufficient evidence that Bin Laden was part of this atrocity. Anthony as always touched on it saying that there is no way the US should not even entertain this disgusting offer. They are just back-peddling and are looking for a way out.
Seconds later, a 17 year old calls in. She had a really sweet poem to read for the guy's. It was a really sweet poem from the heart. Anthony listening as closely as he could to this poem. He only had one thought he could express out loud. That was her being 17. Lol. Opie also asked if she would come on the show in a couple of weeks. That's the kind of laughter I needed on a day like this. They pick and choose their spots, but always seem to pick them right.
Back to the seriousness. There are stories coming out about hatred toward Arab-Americans. In one case a drunk man in his 70's tried to hit an Arab woman with his car. Unsuccessful, he continued on, following her into a store and telling her he was going to kill her for destroying his country. This is the kind of thing that cannot start. We have to keep an open mind, not all Arab's are bad. We can't go beating up or killing every Arab we see, otherwise we are no better than the people who committed this terrible act.
As the hour rolls by, an Air force Captain calls in, he informs the guy's that he know the military will be attacking and attacking soon. He just asked for all the listeners to remember what they have witnessed in the last few days. He asked us not to forget how terrible this has all been. He said this because he does not want to hear anyone crying when we are laying these bastard's to waste. Don't forget the feeling you have now. When the bombing starts be behind your country.
Vos then calls in as he vent's on how he is seeing the skyline for the first time since this has happen and he couldn't help to think back to when he was taking a picture with his daughters at the WTC. This brought up the subject on how do you actually explain this to your children. He went into a lot of things. The truth is it sounded like he really couldn't find the words himself. I think he may have left it to the ex-wife. I can't blame him and O & A felt the same way. We don't know the feeling and really couldn't imagine trying to explain it to a child. As the phone was hung up, Anthony mentioned that just before he hung up, Vos said that this whole ordeal has just sucked the life out of him. Anthony was going to refer to Vos's act but it just didn't seem right.
A caller named Amy calls in, she mentions how this has just brought the world to a stand still. Everything just seems to be moving extremely slow. People are either dazed reflecting on what has happened, or they are crying about it. It shows in a way that these towel heads succeeded in one aspect. But as you watch these people who are working tirelessly throughout the day and night, you can't help but feel better about everything. Before work every morning I put on the TV, just to see those people working. It just gives you hope.
I will end this with Brother Joe calling in to say he has been to the city a million times and this is the first time he is going there with just a completely nervous stomach. He told how it is just impossible for him to believe that the Twin Towers are actually gone. As he goes he commends the guy's on how well they have handled this situation. They are doing an excellent service to their listeners and all Americans. I truly believe that they are getting millions through this tough time.
God bless all the families of the people who have perished in this tragedy. May they rest in peace.
P. S: I am sorry if this is more a personal rant, than it is an hour of the show. I just found it close to impossible not to put my own feelings into this. It is also really hard to work with what we have been given. At some points I just found myself lost in these people's words. Sorry if this doesn't do the correct justice for the people who wanted to read about today's 5-6 hour. I did my best. God bless.
God bless all the families who are without a member, and God bless the souls of those who departed. I love you all!
