No particular order:
Bruce Dickinson
Glenn Danzig (of the past)
Tom G Fischer (Warrior)
James LaBrie (Dream Theater)
Russell Allen (Symphony X)
Floor Jansen (After Forever)
Simone Simons (Epica)
Roy Khan (Kamelot)
Udo Dirkschneider (of the past)
Who are your picks?
*Frontmen doesn't necessarily mean male, but we will limit it to vocalists, however.

When you say "frontman" are you going by outright vocal ability or the whole package...stage presence, working the crowd etc.?

Whole package. That's why LaBrie is up there. His voice fucking blows, but he does put on a show.

Devin Townsend (strapping young lad, TDT Band) fucking one of the funniest frontman ever, and great voice live

Id have to put Freddie Mercury as greatest frontman of all time.
But as far as metal frontmen:
Chucky Billy-Testament
Bruce Dickinson
Eric Adams-Manowar (hes seems to build his performance off the crowds reactions and the more intense the crowd gets...Eric feeds on their energy and elevates himself to the top of his game and has a killer show)

I am gonna throw a couple out there..Off the top of my head the guy the guy with the best presence would definitely be
Pete Steele - Carnivore (Type O Negative) - standing almost 7 feet tall, booming voice, good sense of humor and a certain arrogance that made you realize he was in control.
Ronnie Jame Dio - Dio - If Steele is the jolly Green Giant than Dio must be sprout. His voice controlled the show. Little man, big heart.
Bruce Dickenson - Iron Maiden - The Air Raid Siren. Nothing more needs to be said.
Cory - Slipkot - Amazing live, amazing. Not very technical, but as a performer has it all.
Some more to ponder
King Diamond
Henry Rollins
HR - Bad Brains
John Bush - Armored Saint Anthrax
Blackie Lawless WASP
Lemmy - Motorhead

Agreed.
-And what about Ozzy?
-And if you count him as any sort of metal, Ted Nugent.

The lead singer of Living Colour. I know they're not metal, but early on, they were being pawned off to the metal circles. They are an absolutely amazing band in the live setting.

In addition to Dickinson and Halford (I know I'm going to go old-school on these)
John Bush - I've said before he was one of my favorite live performers
Phil Anselmo - owned that stage as much as anyone. Better than Danzig
Klaus Meine - Scorpions
To throw in a couple of women:
Doro Pesch - Warlock/solo - tiny woman, but a lot of energy and good voice
Leather - Chastain - another big voice in a small package.
I wouldn't necessarily put Cory from Slipknot in this list. I would put the whole band in for a great show, but the other guys, especially Clown, are just as important.

Wow, Lord pulled some great ones out there. Haven't heard Chastain in years.
On the edge of metal:
David Coverdale
Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass)
Dave Mustaine
Now I've just recently seen Death playing live and there is certainly something different about Chuck. He was calm, very intelligent and articulate during these shows. There was something strange about him in that the fans seemed very in tune with him.

The best line I ever heard from one rock star knocking another was when Robert Plant called Coverdale David Coverversion.
Fucking classic.
I think the swoogie in Living Color was Corey something. He did have quite a presence.
We are stretching the metal term here though..
I did see Scorpions back around 87 and Klaus was special. But as far as Germans go, I would give it to UDO.....

I've only seen them live once, but I would put in Tom Araya. He sounded fantastic, or maybe I should say "phenomenal".:icon_cool
But my biased favorite of all genres is Patton.

I always like Phil Anselmo. I know you guys arent big fans of his, but his live stage presence was fantastic everytime I saw them.
I also like Evan Seinfeld from Biohazard, Rick Ta Life of 25 Ta life and Carly Coma from Candiria. But they're all hardcore instead of metal.
Also, the chick from Arch Enemy, who's name I dont remember deserves to be up there because she's sexy. And she acts like she's fucking herself with the mic stand. Getting a hard-on a metal show scores bonus points I say.

Dio is ugly? Try any of the members of Symphony X. It's such an amazing contrast to see such beautiful music come out of five really ugly guys.

Angela Glasgow is the chick from Arch Enemy - never saw them live
Evan from Biohazard is also a great frontman, but I think of him as being more harcore than metal to be honest.
One of the best memories from my youth was seeing Biohazard open for Carnivore at L'Amour in Brooklyn.
Nobody, FUCKING NOBODY, got L'Amour moving more than Brooklyn's own Biohazard. Well for an encore they came out and did "We're an American Band" and Pete Steele came out with them.
Absolutely, without a doubt the single best live performance I have ever seen. I still get chills just thinking about it.

Couldn't agree more. I'll also second Corey Taylor as a great showman, and I can't believe noone has mentioned him, but Randy Blythe has a great unique voice, and an awesome stage prescence.

Which would be why I said...

And thanks for knowing Arch Enemy chicks name. They kill live. And I seen Biohazard a bunch of times at Lamours and the Knitting Factory, fucking people lose their shit. It's great. Fuckin Brooklyn kids always come out to represent their own at shows. Candiria always packs them in too.

Reading comprehension was never a strong point. Sorry...
