Gotta give it up for Iron Maiden's Live After Death. Few approach the sound quality and energy of this one.
Evergrey's A Night to Remember deserves notable mention.

Yeah, live after death probably takes the cake.
Hell.. I would've mentioned Decade of Aggression, too...
But they had a live disc in their last boxed set...
Came in a fake-blood filled cd-sleeve with floating skulls in it.
It was from the god-hates-us-all tours.... and holy shit was it good, too.
Outstanding should be the word.
Don't know the name of the disc, if there even was one for it.
But definitely one of the best live sets I've heard on cd.
Also... I got a soft spot for samhains live 85-86 album. probably not the greatest live album though.
panteras official live 101 proof, too. By far not the best, but definitely good for nostalgic reasons (plus, to hear dime rip a few of his solos purposely out of key, ala kerry king... hell... no WAY you can go wrong with that there)
And while not fitting in the realm of defined metal...
Ministry's Incase you didn't feel like showing up live, has an amazing audio clarity unlike any live album I've ever heard. Including Live after Death.
10 minute jam sessions on Stigmata and So What?... wow.
Martin Atkins, chris connelly, and ogre from Skinny Puppy jamming the entire set with Al and co? doublewow. Songs done on this album sound SO much better than the studio versions. It sounds almost as good as it did in person that night, if not better.

I really am a predictable shitbox...but those are my two faves. I normally don't like live cds.

How the hell did I know you were gonna add the Testament album?
I also have to put Halford - Live Insurrection.
Never liked Halford with Priest, but I love him solo in Halford (not the other solo bands that he had).

Because I am a predictable shi- well, you know. For what it's worth, I wasn't as fond of Testament's "live at the dynamo" or "return to the apocalyptic city"...filmore rules however. Especially "Hail Mary". Fantastic song!
I'm at a loss with not liking Halford with Priest... give unleashed a shot, if only for live versions of "diamonds and rust" and "victim of changes" - I prefer the live versions of both of those songs to the studio versions.
You can only imagine how much I loved it when Testament and Halford played together a few years back. (even more than when Testament, Judas Priest and Megadeth did an arena tour in 91)
I think I'm just getting old and set in my ways so I have my select favorites that will always make me happy. As much as I appreciate Iron Maiden, I didn't include them because I didn't grow up listening to them as rabidly as I did some of the others, and I'm not sure why.

It's not a full album but the live songs on the "I'm the Man" ep are great.

Agreed. I would've liked to see a set built on earlier stuff for S&M, but it's still a good listen.
I would also like to submit S.O.D.'s Live at Budokan.

Blue Oyster Cult....Don't Fear The Reaper..LIVE!
sorry, had to go Old School.
Gotta love a band that has an average height of 5'6 and used lasers in their shows in the 70's-80's and also played little venues as "Soft White Underbelly"

Do they give many closeups of RC playing? I would give my third testicle to see him play those songs.

I know they are an easy band to bash now but I say the second best live cd is the
Slipknot 9.0
That would be after Iron Maiden "LIve After Death"
On the Maiden cd some most of the songs are better live than on CD, especially Revalation, Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner and Hallowed by Thy Name.
The Slipknot cd is really something Special.

Metal? I don't know, but the my absolute favorite live album of all time is "Double Live Gonzo" Ted at his peak and just kills with that Birdland.Almost every song is just an excuse for long solos.More gooder!
Also rans...
S.O.D.,Slayer,AC/DC "If you want blood, you got it",great show, sucky sound on the original release.

Both albums are fucking great. However the one you mention isn't Live, nor is the first. And they most certainly would be considered metal.
