They're a little hard to place. Latin based with hip hop jazz blues rock mixed in.

If you're going to check them out I suggest "Street Signs" Also, if you can find a copy of "Cumbia De Los Muertos" off an album called "The Funky Precedent" it's worth listening to. It just might be floating around the internet somewhere. "Funky Precedent" is a great compilation album from 98/99 I think.

Also, a basic understanding of spanish is helpful.... Although not all their songs are in spanish.

I will never, ever even hear a note of this band.

Not even on a bet.

i saw them a few years ago when they opened for santana at the pnc bank arts center in jersey. i thought they were an excellent group, but was especially impressed when, after the set, they led a parade up to the lawn seats and continued to jam up with us poor folk for another half hour. they played a brass marching band version of 'iron man.' good shit if you like a conglomerated, mullatto, mongrel breed of music.

I saw them open up for DMB a few years back. Probably one of the best opening acts I've seen. "Conglomerated, mulatto, mongrel breed" is an interesting way to put it... but also strangely accurate.

They do a great version of 'April 29th, 1992' on the Tribute to Sublime album

Hell yes! Chali 2na and Cut Chemist kicked ass on that track!

Ozomatli is a fantastic band whose music goes in all sorts of genres and attitudes.

Interesting side note, their CD "Embrace the Chaos" was released 9/11/01...think about it, maaaaannnn.

One of the best live shows you'll ever see. Metalhead Damon insisted that Ozomatli had to be seen, so to shut him up, we did.
An amazing band they be.

Agreed best live acts, including the percussions going into the crowd and gets everyone livid.

Minus the time when they came here to Austin for SXSW and when they went to the streets, the cops peppered sprayed some band members for causing Disorderly Conduct.
