I'm hoping it's the Autobiography of Opie & Anthony, as read by Frank the Frowner.
It could just possibly maybe be the long awaited story of the ONA show that GH has hinted about over the years.

I was contemplating just this morning starting a thread about that cringe cd they always talked about putting out during the WNEW days, and how now that they got the "Book o bits" back if that cd was gonna be greenlit again.
I remember they'd always talk about how it was ready to go, and that infinity was dragging on it, and that was 4 years ago, heh.

Nice! Been waiting awhile for this. Hopefully they don't leave anything out.:)
I'm hoping this actually is a prelude to a film. Yeah, a film. Without the book, that could be less lilely to happen. With it, they'll have offers. Then again, maybe they already had on condition of the book.
What I'm looking forward to, is Ant having to play his younger self, but with a full afro, getting stuck in ductwork and whatnot.... :icon_mrgr

But how cool would that be? For all of us who were Howard Stern fans back in the day, when you watch Private Parts you can't really say that it was a struggle to the top worthy of a movie. To watch O&A implode their own careers on the big screen not once but TWICE, only to watch them ascend to greater heights, well...there's a movie in there somewhere. :)

I've been saying ever since they first mentioned a possible book that the best format would be to alternate between chapters from Op's POV, and Ant's. If they're going this way, an audio book version makes perfect sense.
Hopefully, they'll address this on the air sometime soon.

I'm not saying a movie wouldnt be great but its not financially viable. An O&A movie wouldnt attract outside people, just fans. Even if every listener went it would still only be a minimal proft. Advertising costs alone would be huge. It couldnt be done cheap cause it would be alot of different sets, not like say a clerks. Books cost nothing to produce and 500,000 books is considered good, 500,000 tickets isnt almost on any level.
Snakes on a plane should make alot of money and most of its advertising is viral.

I really hate to use it as an example, but did you ever see Private Parts? Do you really think only Howie fans went and saw that?
Please...you not only don't give their fanbase their due, you imply O&A's story isn't funny.
Their story is even better than Howie's, especially since they don't want to rewrite history, and admit to being assholes. In the hands of a Kevin Smith, a Cringe movie would do well.
Advertising costs alone would be huge.
O&A can do a lot of the advertizing via their show. XM and CBS would go along if it brings listeners. If the show gets bigger, and the book does well, O&A will be a household name from coast to coast. As long as the film has their name in the title, that's the bulk of the advertizing done already.
It couldnt be done cheap cause it would be alot of different sets, not like say a clerks.
Nope. Think about it. It would just be a few, with the rest being location shooting in LI, Manhattan and Boston.
Books cost nothing to produce and 500,000 books is considered good, 500,000 tickets isnt almost on any level.
Look, I'm not accusing you of being a closeted Howie fan here, but you really undervalue O&A over and over again in your argument. People don't need to know who they are if the movie is funny.
Snakes on a plane should make alot of money and most of its advertising is viral.
I'm sure with the pests involved, viral marketing would reach new heights. :icon_mrgr

I hope there are some of Ant's marriage and divorce stories in the book. I think they're hysterical. It's hard to believe he put up with the shit that he did considering his personality on the show. The whole marriage sounds like a cringe-worthy moment. Glad he's happy now.

I just checked and a stern movie didnt even fair all that well and he had around 9 million listeners back then. After advertising and all additional costs the movie probably made 5-10 million plus video dales since there werent DVD yet. I dont think many non-Howie fans checked it out. howard Stern is a huge name, opei and anthony are up and coming. I am one of their biggest fans and have never listened to stern. Only opie and anthony fans would check it out. Doing the math only about 5 million of howie's fans checked out his movie. do the same percentage on a 5-10 million dollar ona budget and it doesnt work. stop being naive. someday, not now. book would be huge.

Everyone's just speculating on a movie anyway. You have to admit though that a movie on O&A's radio careers would be far more interesting than Hoo Hoo's if only for what they did to it themselves. :) Add in the whole Howard thing and you'll have a far more interesting movie (and let's face it, a lot of us went to see Private Parts and liked it when it came out).
Speaking of Private Parts, imdb has it listed as an estimated 20 mil to make and took in an estimated 41 mil. They also have another 18 mil in rentals, so really you're looking at around 60 million, probably a bit more with DVD sales and such. Figure they probably had to gross about 30 mil initially to start making money. So when you factor all of that in, Private Parts didn't do too badly for itself given it was guaranteed to have a limited audience.
Hear that bbbbbbboys? Nice chunk of change there to get your side of the story and watch Hoo Hoo squirm under your success. :action-sm

I'll take your word for this, since I don't feel like checking myself. ;)
That said, I remember fully at the time, that people who had only heard of him still saw his film. It wasn't just PR. There are people who see crap films all the time. I also never said it was a blockbuster, just that some non-fans also went to see it. I'm also factoring in the foreign release. You can't say those people are listeners.
Only opie and anthony fans would check it out.
You state that as if it were a fact.
Despite the fact that the majority of Howie fans saw Private Parts at some point, people who just wanted to see a comedy that week also did go. A O&A film, if written well, will incorporate most of the radio gold that make them popular. That material blows away Howie's story. Again, if it's funny, people will go. That includes non-fans.
Doing the math only about 5 million of howie's fans checked out his movie. do the same percentage on a 5-10 million dollar ona budget and it doesnt work.
If it came out tomorrow, you might have a point, but again, the material, and a decent director could make the film an underground cult hit. Clerks, since you raised it, didn't need the kind of budget you're dreaming of, and no one knew who Kevin Smith was back then.
stop being naive. someday, not now. book would be huge.
Stop reading what isn't there. :icon_roll
OBVIOUSLY, it wouldn't be now. Any film would be a few years off at the least. You also seemed to have forgotten a previous post of mine:

If there is a movie, I say make it all out, balls to the wall, zany comedy. Fuck a love interest (because, let's face it, there is none other than the love story between two men and a microphone. They're radio's Troy/McNamara), just make it non-stop lunacy. A throwback to movies like Caddyshack and Animal House. I think that if they just did it without any dramatics or theaterics or "Alison, Alison, I did it all for Alison" (though that line needs to be in it) it could even entice non-fans of the show who are just looking for a fucking silly comedy.
Personally I feel the bulk of it should be at WNEW and I don't know who they should cast as Howard but it really better be highly insulting with a really bad witch's nose.
I also want to see a Magnificient Seven moment as they get their crew together.
"Steve, you're somewhat ok with video, we need someone like you."
"What are you doing in my house?"
Also, cast some WB star as Norton.
And maybe begin it with a Ron and Fez short such as "Ron and Fez in "Oh That Earl.""
We also need to cast Hitler for that scene at the end after they've done good and they look up to see that person cheering them on from the beginning. The crowd is cheering them on and Anthony looks up, sees Hitler standing stare, gives the salute and Anthony gives the salute back with a tear in his eye.

Afetr years of listening to O&A, I cannot possibly imagine one dramatic scene in the (hypothetical) film. Like I said earlier, Ant doing HVAC work with a full 'fro. Did he actualy work with a full afro? I'm pretty sure he didn't, but that's how it should be. Just like Gregg dressed like he was at Genseo. All of it over the top, and played to the hilt.
Personally I feel the bulk of it should be at WNEW and I don't know who they should cast as Howard but it really better be highly insulting with a Baker-esque makeup job.
How could you possibly imagine anyone but Ant doing it? Michael McKeon's half-assed impersonation only worked because of the glasses and wig. Ant's got Howie down pat without all that. With it, there's no other choice. He should tackle Dice too.
I also want to see a Magnificient Seven moment as they get their crew together.
"Steve, you're somewhat ok with video, we need someone like you."
"What are you doing in my house?"
Sounds like the A-Team. All we need is Earl as Mr T. :icon_mrgr
Also, cast some WB star as Norton.
That would be the best thing ever....casting someone else as Norton. I'm cracking up right now, just imagine if they did that.
"We needed someone who knew what to do with his hands" - Kevin Smith :icon_mrgr
And maybe begin it with a Ron and Fez short such as "Ron and Fez in "Oh That Earl."
Oh they have to be in there somewhere. Maybe a scene at the end where we see Ronnie and Fez in bed together, and Fez wakes up screaming."It was a bad dream Fezzie, that's all"
There's your dramatic scene. ;)
We also need to cast Hitler.

Well said!
And let's not forget Siskel & Ebert gave Private Parts two thumbs up. A good movie will do well on its own merits.
To the person who said "An O&A movie wouldnt attract outside people, just fans" - I say fooey! Who was really a fan of Lenny Bruce? The Dustin Hoffman movie about him did pretty well for itself.
If they ever do a movie, you can bet they will be on all the talk shows pushing it, and it would be the #1 movie the week it opens. Their story is richer than Howard's, and their movie would still hold up after ten years. Private Parts is a great movie if you don't know how it really ended. That fucking airport scene at the end makes me gag! "I've got Allison! Allison! She's the best friend I could ever have!" Hoo hoo...

If Opie and Anthony didn't play themselves, I wonder who they could get to play them?
If it turns out to be a full blown biopic, they would absolutely have to all play themselves starting at least with 'NEW. Who could possibly do Anthony justice?
And there's too much story for a movie. It should be a miniseries on HBO.
Part 1) The Background - Early '90s: Opie interning. "Boo boo boo boo!" Spuds Buckey. Brother Wease. Anthony the Apollo tin knocker. Rotgut. Opie's Nighttime Attitude. WBAB. How to keep your car from being repo'd.
Part 2) The Beginning - Mid '90s: Gonna 'lectric Shock OJ. Buttplug. Defection to WAAF. Craig from Walltown. WOW. I-I-I got my very first boner. The mayor died in what?
Part 3) Syndication Now - Late '90s: Rebirth on WNEW. Voyeur Bus. Norton. Dice. The Divorce. Stern. TnA for OnA. The 9/11 broadcast. They're having sex where?
Part 4) Into The Void - early 2000s: Opie wanders the Earth. Meets Erock. Ant masters flying RC helicopters. Recuperates from heart surgery.
Part 5) Pioneers of Satellite Radio - mid 2000s: Rebuilding. The biggest comeback in radio history. "Can I say 'fuck'?" AotM. Return to terrestrial.
Plus, all the stuff we don't know about that would be funny, interesting, etc...

Hmmm, that's not bad. Something like The Sopranos but with fancy men.
I still think the film is the way to go, but that's quite an idea too.

Do it right...get Peter Jackson to direct it and make three, three hour long movies!!!!! An epic bio pic! Part One, the WAAF days. Part Two, the WNEW days. Part Three, the XM/CBS era. They could cover EVERYTHING!!!! :)

Then the inevitable DVD release with a commentary track from the director (Kevin Smith, of course). And a second commentary track with O&A & Jimmy.
Plus hi-res video from the Buffalo road show. And all the old Rotgut videos. And Opie has said he's got VHS of all their old Real Rock TV shows. Plus the XFL stuff.
And current interviews with Robert Clary, Shirley Williams, Linda Blair, CC DeVille.
And every WNEW show in HQ MP3 on the data section of the DVD.
I can dream, can't I?

Ugh, trolls. Ben we know about, and Poe is probably kept off air until the Howard fan thing blows over legally. (Not sure though)

"Poe" (creepy poet) has been dead for about 150 years. "Po" (Master) is doing security for the show, just like he has been all along. Get with the program, mister!

Too bad the boys won't have recorded the book themselves. We know ol' op is probably too sensitive about his rumblin' stumblin' delivery to lay down his track himself. :(
And we know ant wouldn't do it if op isn't. Hopefully they got muhammed ali to do it.

If the audio is actually them, then I bet it will be the first person stuff. Just as if they were telling it on air. The stuff cut out may be some of the third person stuff.
Going back to the movie idea, this is a great portent of things to come:

Po works for XM at their facility and additional security was hired after the Stern Fan incident makign it unneccesary for him to leave his place of work.
Ben as far as anyone could tell is unhappy about the money he was making and from what has been said on air the boys wish they could have met his needs.
And if you are a troll, Howard had the money and the long list of people in his wake is insane. See: Billy West, Jackie Martling...

Hope you didn't go through with that pre-order there, fella. I just checked on this, and the release date is pushed back to 2010. It may wind up being pulled entirely. This alleged book may just be wishful thinking on the part of somebody at Simon & Schuster. I wish the boys would at least mention this on the show.

I was at that buffalo show, (not a road show) and trust me you dont want high res video. Most of the strippers there were AWFUL and forget and "regular" hot girls, there were none. That was a sausage fest extreme. However it was one of the most goodest days ever. I laughed so hard i threw up.
