I have been listening to The Exploited for the past couple of days. Punk, but the later albums went more in a Thrash direction. Maybe that is why I like them so much.

Old school punk - the British shit is the best - The Expolited, GBH, Discharge, some great stuff. Its a completly different sound than American punk.
I will try a simple equation.
British punk = The Clash
American punk = The Ramones

I think early west coast punk/hardcore beats the cunt out of most those early uk bands. Black Flag, TSOL, Circle Jerks, DRI, Bad Religion, Agent Orange, Wasted Youth, The Stains... I could go on forever.... no uniforms, no stupid image or hairstyles, just kick ass music

I got to have some Dropkick Murphys or Rancid whenever they tour near my town. I still can't get into Flogging Molly but some great pits at their shows.

Don't forget Dead Kennedys in any West Coast punk talk.
Whenever I think of DRI, I also think of the "old" Corrosion of Conformity. The Eye for an Eye and Animosity cds to be precise. Great harcore/punk/crossover shit.

i agree. bad religion have been going strong for a few decades and are still relavent. greg graffin's vocals, brett's guitar (especially on this last record), and the fucking harmonies. gotta love it.
of course i have to mention pennywise and nofx, but i also dig mxpx and saves the day. and i know they're a classified more as ska, i love less than jake.

fuckin saves the day went to complete shit...their 3rd album was ok after repeated listens, after that they got relaly really bad. i saw them sat at warped, they were ok but such a shell of the band that i used to really really like.
the first saves the day album was so much like lifetime, prob why so many people initially loved them. saw lifetime in july, one of the cooest experiences ever.

I highly recommend any fans of classic American Hardcore see the new documentary on The Minutemen, We Jam Econo. http://theminutemen.com/home.html
Probably the best Punk Rock documentary I've ever seen. Even people unfamiliar with the music will be fans of the band by the end.
Here's some other "punk" bands I enjoy that have yet to be mentioned: The Stooges, The Misfits(1977-1983), Minor Threat, Flipper, FEAR, Dead Milkmen, Angry Samoans, The Dictators, The Meatmen, Negative Approach, The Dicks, Butthole Surfers, MDC, Mourning Noise, and The Bad Brains.

I've been in a real metal/punk state of mind lately. My punk listening has been Vandals, Goldfinger, GOB, Dead Kennedys and this local punk band that broke up a few years ago, they're called Lounge. They have a myspace http://www.myspace.com/11916464 . While not my first intro to punk i still love the sound they had.
