Hopefully we can get a good discussion going here in the discussion forum and not have this get locked or merged into the Whoopi ass kissing fest that the other thread is.
I have been a long time fan, since the days when I could only get the show via the underground.
I was an uber fan....until the Whoopi thing.
Now I am a casual listener at best.
They trash her, then have it set for her to come and kiss her ass. It goes against everything O&A to me.
I wasn't excited about the free fm switch, but it didn't make me not still love the show. The whoopi thing made me not like the show. I hate to say it, but it also made me take a different view of the other "fans." O&A said it was great radio and whoopi was brave, so everyone else drank from the koolaid and said the same thing too.
During the Tommy Lee interview back in the day, if he threw down the "call me a pussy again and I am hanging up" line, and Opie would have apologized, would everyone have said that's great of Tommy to stand up for himself, or would you have called out Opie for being a bitch?
I know I am just one listener, and they don't give a shit, and neither does anybody else. And in the grand scheme, it got their name in the news, which might get some new listeners, but I thought O & A were always a little more than just your average radio show. Maybe I was wrong.

By having the guts to show up, Whoopi earned their respect. Can't people see that? You don't see that happen, ever.

Yeah, because not being a real douche to Whoopi makes them not funny. Gotcha.

I thought the whole Whoopi thing made for good radio. Listening to our radio tough guys back down was great. No other show out there would have thrown them selves under the bus like that. Also Whoopi gets props for doing it.
Here is a conspiracy theory that I came up with thanks to Opie tearing down all 72,000 walls:
Could it all have been staged? It was in realty a win for both shows, the media was all over this.
I don't personally care what it was, I was entertained. Thats all that matters in the grand scheme. I love listening to them bbboys act like real people that have real pussies, it made me laff and laff for many hours.

I do believe that they said that.... the show isn't for them and she admitted that.... her show is tryin' to get the women (which I don't get, I am a woman and I could never listen to that drivel!)
All she really wanted was for the pests to stop callin' the show so her "actual" listeners could get through. I think she showed a lotta balls by comin' in. She hung with the bbboys and realized they aren't the anti-christs that everyone portrays them to be.
I am glad that it happened,.... although I wasn't happy at first, I wanted them to rip her to shreads, but I think it all worked out in the end. They have no real beef with her, and that show is in no way a threat to them.

my opinion? I think you completely missed the fact that we're all just having fun here. They trash people for no reason because its funny, if someone has the balls to step up and confront them in a respectful way theres no need to continue being a dick, you just move on to the next mark. They said themselves there are certain people that they actually dont like but with the other ones its all just fun and games. yeah the whoopi thing left a bad taste in my mouth; jaded? why? shes a phony hypocrite but she outplayed them and she gets props for it, get over it.

you are WAY off base here fella. Whoopi had the balls to come and hold her own face to face. You have to respect that no matter how awful her show is.
What did you want them to do? Have Kenny and Po hold her down while they took turns ****** her?
I think it would have been hacky and fake for them not to give her props and handle it the way they did. It was completely honest and real the way it was dealt with and it only made me love the show more.

yeah, i mean, no other radio host had the balls to come to show up to their show.......i mean that took real balls for her to do that. Any other radio host would have been a faggot and just act like their better.....and you have to realize this could be a good alliance for the show because maybe more A-List guests will appear on the show and it will make it more gooder.
So if your going to get bent out of shape because they tear down the 4th wall sometimes, then go to any other morning zoo

The only heads-up that they gave away on the air was that Opie said they had a suprise coming, and then they had Patrice sit in a different seat. As far as we know as listeners they found out at the start of the XM only portion, and she was there 45 minutes later.

The Whoopie thing was nothing and made for great radio. If you think the boys were being pussies find clips of when Sara Jessica Parker called about 5-6 years ago. They were busting on how ugly she was, calling her Ruth Buzzy, comparing her to a horse and stuff like that. Well, she happened to be taping her show in NYC and heard the show playing on the set and called in and confronted them. You can almost hear them cutting off their own balls as they kissed her ass, complimented her show and invited her to the studio.
By the way, that was great radio too. The boys are great pussies.

Like I said before, if you can show the whole thing, including bashing her for days, was all planned, then you'd have a point. As it is, Elo or Whoopi made contact to defuse it and arranged this on the fly.

I think the whole thing was amusing. I laughed pretty hard at some of the stuff that went on.
I was a little suprised they didn't really call her out to explain the "not worthy enough of the dust that howard walks on" comment.
She gained respect for coming in and dealing with it.
She lost respect for being a 'kept' comic... saying "I'll do what they want me to do when they're paying me". I understand that a 'nigga gotta eat', but if I ever saw jimmy doing an episode of blue's clues, I'd be just as dejected.

Honestly do u think howard would have the balls to show up at there studio they would have master po stuff his body in that grotestly huge nose. plus it wasnt a personal thing like it was with howard it was just them saying they hated her show and they though it sucked. But i would'nt call opie out on the whole Tommy Lee thing that was 5 or more years ago and it wasnt a huge blow up opie just called him a pussy a few times

if this thing with Whoopie turns you from "uberfan" to a casual listener, then honestly who ever you are was never a uberfan. Uberfan get and understand the show and don't find reason to bash it for nothing. it's not about the bad. it's about all the good shit they do and the fact they can make us laugh for 5 hours a day all week long. now put this whoopie shit to bed. either listen or don't, but stop the fucking whinning people!

They did what anyone would have done in that situation. Whoopi showed up to confront them. She didn't stay behind the scenes and force a gag-order or have her staff call O&A's staff. She walked into THEIR studio and sat down pleasantly.
If you're trashing someone behind their back, then they walk up to you and act pleasant, do you really tear them up no matter what, just for the sake of consistency?
I did not feel jaded at all after her appearance. I thought it showed a lot of courage that she confronted them. She didn't walk on the show and give them a moral lecture on any of the things they said on the air, she just walked on and did not even seem to care about Op's comment in the Post. If you feel jaded, sir, then take a break from the show. Simple as that.

I have worked on a couple of radio shows in Texas, and I can tell you from the inside, NO ONE ELSE does this.
The fact that O&A even let her in the studio shows that they are completely opposite of any other commercial radio hosts. From expierence, when the show I worked for in Houston get into it with somone else on the air, the target actually requested to come in and talk about the problem. My hosts didn't even consider the idea, because it might make them look weak if they appologized, or settled the matter professionally. Commercial radio hosts are focused on keeping whatever their image is to their listeners, they cannot be real and go with a face-to-face. I applaud O&A for doing it.
Two outcomes were possible:
1. Whoopi comes in, stays pretty cool, and everything gets worked out.
2. WHoopi comes in, makes an ass out of herself, and we continue running her into the ground.
Can't y'all see that number 1 makes everybody look so much better? Whoopi shows some balls to her listeners, O&A look like good guys, possibly perking some new listener interest. Also, looking good is a very good thing when it comes time for more syndication. (press is good)

It took a great amount of class & balls for whoopie to step up & come into the studio like she did. She didn't get offended, she didn't retaliate by trashing O&A, (yeah, the dust comment was douche, but eh, whatever...) and she came off with dignity and had a good time with the boys. Why does that make O&A faggits?
Someone close this thread. This makes no sense.

Listen to the replays this weekend. You can pick up a few little hints that this wasn't a personal thing. They made fun of Whoopi because thats what they do. It's NOT personal, so why would they be mean to her when she came in. I bet they conntinue trashing her show from time to time anyway, just like they still make fun of Imus sometimes.
Of course this will all be moot in 3 months when she's off the air anyway.

I thought it was great radio, between Whoopie and John Valby, I say one of the best weeks they done since the move.
You could feel the awkwardness when she showed up, the bbboys seemed dumbfounded and distracted by her appearance and it made for a decent cringe moment.
They weren't really trashing her, just making fun of the format of her show. So why would they treat this like the hoo hoo grudge?
Besides her problem wasn't with the bboys, it was with us fucking her show up. I admit I took part in the attack and honestly feel bad for doing so (kinda, but not really), she's a stand up chick and love her or hate her, she kinda owned our bboys.
And finally, I love how they allowed us to hear them get beat on. I love the gritty honesty of the show and as WBL stated above, it is consistent with how they always are. (They rolled over on guests before)
If you want lies and over the top self promoting showmanship, get a sirius. If you want human beings who acknowledge thier mistakes then stay tuned.

What would you have done (to the OP)? Would you have beaten her with a tire iron and then slit her throat?
If something like this makes you dislike the boys, they you are not a fan at all. Whoopi confronting them in a civil manner showed a side of people that we never get to see.

I was an uber fan....until the Whoopi thing.
Now I am a casual listener at best.
They trash her, then have it set for her to come and kiss her ass. It goes against everything O&A to me.
Hmmm....
So, someone they have no particular issue with comes in and nicely asks - "I understand what you do, but could you please just give me a chance first?" (that takes nerve on Whoopi's part, and few people would do that, under far less public circumstances), and you want them to do what?
What would have been and ideal scenario in your opinion?
Should they have refused to let her in the studio, and staged a hacky radio war, as most other hosts would have? Now, that would have been disappointing.
And while I do think that there had to be some pre-approval required on XM's part (ELo, of course), and perhaps there might have been some of the show that had the option to approve or disapprove the visit (just a guess, but I suspect that the rudder would have to know which direction the show would be going in order to steer it there safely), however the majority of he show seemed to be genuinely taken by surprise. You can't expect them to tear down the 999th wall. They tear down enough walls for us, no need for more.
But "Uberfans", such as yourself must know that.
If they had done the vicious thing, or the mean thing, just because they felt it was what would be least pussy-like, so people such as your self wouldn't be disappointed, that would have been false and contrived because there was simply no reason for it.
If they started doing things just because they were afraid of being called pussies, that would dishonest, and in your words "against everything O&A".

Bottom line - its an honest show. The fake reaction would've been to try and fuck her up. There was never anything personal with her. Just her show content, which is directed at an entirely different demo. It made for some good goofing on the show, like the Tony Danza shit was. It was always on that level, she never a real enemy. She came in, showed "balls" as a lot say, and she earned some respect. If someone earns it, they earn it.
Bottom line - if this whole Whoopi "thing" actually makes you question whether you like the show, you never really got the show in the first place an d bye bye.

It was great radio period. If you are still whining like a little bitch ass cunt enough to make another friggin thread then good riddance and go away.
Seems that you and a few others are in the minority here. I listen and like the show for one reason and that I want and expect good radio with some great radio thrown in and this is the only show that delivers this consistently. Sometimes they may have a few Yaaaawwwwwwwnnnns thrown in but Whoopi showing up was far from that.

OK yes yes, it did take balls for her to come in and yes it deserves some recognition, but they definately did do some ass kissing, and this has nothing to do with the "attacks" not being personal.
No, I didn't want them to punch her in the face or even have any kind of argument but when she came they started to even bend the truth. I thought the way they explained it to her was very disingenuous. They were playing clips of the show because it was fucking AWFUL, not because it was different, or she has a different audience. They folded up like the french in WWII, and didn't even bust her balls or anything. Also i thought her saying Pests, get a life was very disrespectful to the show.
No, I'm not gonna stop listening like that other guy but I was dissapointed and i think a lot of people were.
