Ok, there are tons of them. Some run out of ideas. Some sell the fuck out. Some go a combo of both. Some jumped the moment they recorded.
Who are you picks and where did they jump the shark?

For the idiots, like me, could we define. "Jumping the Shark?"
Is it like doing something that defines a point of decline? (my paraphrasing wikipedia)

Yup, like when they should have stopped, but kept going. Kind of like Sepultura.

I'm not willing to go that far even with Metallica. To me, everything after Puppets was crap. Nothing Else Matters is a fucking faggot waltz for crissakes! Blech!

Metallica - When they came out with that boxed set. Before the black album. At $75.00 most Metallica fans could never afford it and it was rehashed b- sides mostly, that true Metallica fans already had.
By the way for those who do not know, "Jump the Shark" is derived from Happy Days when Fonzie jumped a shark on water skies, which to some signaled the downfall of Happy Days.

I'd have to go with Metallica as the most obvious. I haven't liked anything after Justice.
I know a lot of people like newer Maiden, but they lost me after Powerslave.
I can't really think of any others.

Warrant, before they put out 'Cherry Pie'. So Cookie Cutter.
Quiet Riot, after they hit #1 they kinda declined gradually because everyone copied them (Hoo Hoo).
Alice In Chains, right now. Not really metal, but they should have kept it quits after Layne Staley died. In all fairness I cant tell wheather they'll be good without him yet.

im gonna call out my favorite band of all time on this one.
Pantera when they put out the mediocre album called Reinventing the steel in 2001 after not having made an actual record since 1997 nor really played together as a band and it showed. the lyrics were crap, the riffs were lack luster, and all in all it just plain sucked compared to The Great Southern Trendkill.

Pantera lost me after one of my favorite albums, "Far Beyond Driven".
Sepultura after "Roots".
Metallica after "....And Justice for All".
Ministry started to lose me with "Animositisomina", but their past two have been great.
Maiden lost me after "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son".
Slayer after "Divine Intervention", but I haven't given "God Hates Us All" a good listen.
I just went blank........

Same Here. Maybe even during Powerslave.

Megadeth, everytime Dave Mustaine dumps band members and brings someone new onboard.. FUCK, I hated it when Dave Ellefson left, he was THE bass sound of Megadeth.
