How did they spell it yesterday when they had the 'contest' to get tickets and you had to send a txt msg that said ramon?

Absolutely
08-09-2006, 04:13 PM
I believe the text message Opie spelled it R-A-M-O-N-E.
OaPedia has it under both spellings.

Character who is mentioned (but does not speak) in Steve C's show promos. A South American houseboy who works for the "Deep Voice Guy" (Steve C), a wealthy voice actor. Often Ramon is made to do humiliating tasks at the behest of Deep Voice Guy, such as cleaning up his diarrhea, and providing his sleeve so the Deep Voice Guy can wipe himself.

I say with an E

I posted this thread because I keep seeing and hearing it being spelled with an "e" and the only time I ever saw that spelling was in reference to The Ramones... If you use Google images and type in "Ramon" you get a million pictures of Hispanic gentlemen of varying ages. That is what seals the deal for me, the correct spelling for a young, obedient, brown-skinned houseboy is Ramon.

I've never seen it spelled without an "e". I know the name isn't of English descent but the rules of our language clearly state that in order for the "o" in Ramone to be pronounced as such, you'd need an "e" at the end. Otherwise it would be pronounced like "ray mon".

I'd think it's "Ramone" since the E turns the O sound into a long vowel. "Ramon" is probably the more accurate spelling for a latino houseboy (try saying "Ramon" with a short O without using a Hispanic accent - it can't be done), but "Ramone" is the way they say it on the show.

The pronunciation, which is more consistant than when it's written out, leads me to believe that it is Ramone. Ramon would be pronounced like "Raymond" without the 'd.'

Pike said the exact same thing two posts up...

It's Ramon. No one in the history of man has ever gone by the first name "Ramone"

"Ramon" is a real first name, and its Latino roots fit with being a man-servant to Deep Voice Guy.

The name clearly is derived from a language of savages. Spanish or Ebonics; I can't remember and it's really not that important since the rules of the English language are the only ones that really matter. The correct spelling is of course Ramone.

Now Ramone. How'd you like to mow my lawn? mmm? mmm? mmm?

I voted Ramone just cuase it looks more like the sound of the name to me, but after reading some of the posts in the thread, I gotta go with Ramon. Who cares if "Ramone" looks better, spell it like the savage we all know Ramon to be.

Although it was really funny that one time they were talking about bands and said "The Ramoooooones"

Of course it's Ramon. The servant boy wouldn't be a good english speaking white person, so of course he'd have a savage name.

I've adopted Ramone, since that's how everyone else spell it, but technically, it should be Ramon.

If anyone thinks its Ramon, then they need to go back to School. Ramon is RAY MON. Thats how the word is pronounced. Ramone is RA MONE. See.

Dude, it's a Central American houseboy in Steve's insane brain. It would be Ramon because that is the Spanish name for Raymond. I learned that in school when I was 12. And why are we arguing over the gay dreams of Stephen Carr(I spelled it with a ph because it looks fancier that way)?

My first name is Ramon. Seriously. Ramon Antonio Gamez Fu the Fifth. It's also spoken the same way as Steve's Ramone.
People call me Ramen though, or "Ram on", I pretty much hate my awful name.

What he said. Minus the last sentence. Don't take RAMOOOONNNEEE lightly. Ramone isn't just a bit, it's a way of life. It's also a funny way to hang up on people that annoy you.

Definitely Ramone. Opie spelled it out when they were giving out tickets. (Text "Ramone" R-A-M-O-N-E to (insert address here) to win tickets to .... ).

Regardless of the way they spell it, it should be Ramon. It's the Spanish version of Raymond.
