I will be doing Early Action in the Fall for Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. A lot of you Wackbaggers are in the Northeast. If any of you are alumni or currently attending Allegheny, I would really appreciate if you let me write you down in my Application Supplement. It is a pretty long shot since it is a relatively small school, but I thought it would be worth a try.

Look at Denison in Ohio. Its a better, more attractive, and more expensive version
Just checked it out -- it does not offer my intended major.

what is your intended major?
if hes from GA and he wants to go Allegheny it must be something random
what is your intended major?
Political Science and Government.
It is not that random. Allegheny is a good school in that department. If my fiancial aid is denied, it will be a toss-up between UC Davis, NYU, or Yale. I doubt I will get denied. I have a 4.1 and all I take are APs and Advanced courses, I can get some great reccomendations (my dad knows important people), and my ACT is a 31. Allegheny just appeals to me the most.

Do you plan on going to law school after?

"joy"

More than likely if I decide to go that path. I either want to become a lawyer or a doctor (insert everyones' Neurosurgeon jokes here) and I could always switch my major at Allegheny. They have solid Law and Medicine programs.

Do Harvard..best reputation in the country.
If you are worried...try Penn., Cornell, or Brown. They should have that...best part of Brown is that you either pass or fail. All are Ivys!

Hey dude go to a southern school. You will save money and get the same piece of paper that will get you an entry-level job just like the fancy overpriced ones will. I have friends going to Universities like USC and Vanguard and they pay way too fucking much for their shit. The only cool thing about USC is some things like their film department... blah can't afford it anyway.
So yeah just pick a state school if you are wanting to do politcal science. If you were wanting to do mixed signal and robotics or some shit then it would matter where you could go to school but it doesnt really matter for a degree in PS. I have a buddy who is in Washington right now with a PS degree and is working for a congressman.
I grew up knowing Govs, Senators, Congressmen and the politcal back of the Republican party in my state since we held parties for them and organized events to raise them money. So it doesnt really matter what your piece of paper says for a PS degree unless you want to be a douchebag commentator on CNN and want to be introduced "Baylor blah blah Harvard graduate blah blah is here to talk about blah blah."
Take it easy.

Go to an East Coast Ivy league. you seem to have made up your mind about which school you are going to choose so here is the one reason for my opinion. No matter GPA or Major if employers see Harvard/yale/cornell/princeton...etc... you have an interview if not the job. I see you also want poly sci. Yale has professors who basically move the world in terms of politics. Don't get my wrong Allegheny is a fine school but it's worth the extra tuition knowing you will make it all back within your first years of being employed. If i could do it over I would have worked slighty harder in high school to get into the ivy leagues. I went to Binghamton University which isn't too shabby itself, especially for poly sci. My professors either went to harvard or helped write congressional bills. It's just that outside of NY people have no idea how great of a school binghamton really is academically.

What most people tell me is that once they got out into the real world, it did not matter what college they went to. Most of you are older and more experienced that I am in the real world, so is that true? To me, it does not make economical sense to go to an Ivy League school for Undergraduate. Maybe Post-Graduate. Most UG programs are the same everywhere, the thing is, I just want to get far away from where I am now. I do not really like living in Georgia, not to mention the Southeast. I feel like it is time for me to go out and become my own person now.

Most people once out in the real world the experience and compentency matter not the piece of paper. I had a boss that said "all that piece of paper means is your an idiot but trainable". I laughed and I agreed with him. I simply learned how to learn. I've worked with with engineers that went to Rensallear and MIT. They didn't know how to use a wrench. They were book smart but that can get you killed out in some jobs if you don't know how to apply the knowledge. Allegheny is a respectable school. Good luck. I just wish you had said you were going for Chemical Engineering. (No Homo).

The world needs more doctors, not lawyers as the baby boomers start graying. Choose wisely.

Denison offers Political Science and Government. Its just called Political Science. Real colleges don't have convuluted names for majors. Go to a good school if you want a good job immediately after college. However, don't go to a medium good school. Really good schools have grade inflation and reputations, bad schools are easy to get good grades so it helps no reputation, medium schools are tough in grades and reputation.

Why would you choose Allegheny over NYU or Yale? If finances are an issue that's one thing and I completely understand, but the difference in prestige of those schools over Allegheny is huge.
As for the idea that where you go doesn't matter, in the long run, no it probably doesn't. After some time in the real world, if you can show you can do your job and do it well, where you went to school doesn't matter. But for those first jobs as well as internships while you're in school, the names on your resume including where you're going to college definitely matter.

Believe it or not, Allegheny is looked at as a better school in terms of academic ratings over NYU. It might not be as well known, but I figured if I switch to medicine, I could easily intern Allegheny General Hospital. Allegheny is more of a fit for me. I am still young and not really sure where I want to go with my life. I could always file a transfer if Allegheny does not work out. But since I have been a freshman, Allegheny was a college that I looked closely. My dad is the one pushing me to go to Yale or some other Ivy League school, but everyone says they are the same deal and most people that graduate from an Ivy League school end up as far in life as someone who did not.
