Two comments: Oavirus.com should be in the 'Top O&A sites' section, and they need to dedicate some time to cleaning up, cleaning out, and reorganizing the 'Pest Network' section. Many of the sites are defunct and/or date all the way back to the NEW days, like the link to WNEW's page, for example. Maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't seem like this should be all that difficult to do?

It looks good, but I have to wonder if the guys listen to the actual show they made the page for sometimes. Ant was pissed when the picture went up on the CBS page with the "phantom mole" on his nose. He went on about it for over half an hour. Great radio by the way. He even offered to photoshop it himself to fix it. Then the newopieandanthony.com comes out with....yup....the phantom mole picture. Wow.......

Yeah, how did that one get by them? It just goes to show how the details aren't really being paid attention to by the staff. There is no way that should have been missed.
I never had much of a problem finding anything on Foundry. You just have to remember the exact keyword for the file you were searching for, and wait for the stupid ass 30 second search rule to expire before searching again.
Jim mentions from time to time that eatabullet is being updated, but you never see anything new there. He is always talking about his latest celebrity picture, but we hardly get to see them. I am really looking forward to that being upgraded, and done a lot better. He says it's in the works. We'll see I guess.

i agree that the linking to foundrymusic for videos needs to stop. I love that o&a offer videos and whatnot, but have cbs/xm pony up some cash for a decent server and stop having crap ass downsampled videos in zip files and have either decent quality .mpg's (or even .wmv's) or keep the downsampled video but in integrated youtube flash windows form. Its 2006, video you gotta download and then unzip is lame and outdated. youtube integration into the site is really where its at, and is not hard to do (every blog in the world is doing it). otherwise the new site is nice.
ZeoVGM
08-10-2006, 03:33 AM
Wow, that looks pretty nice. But some ideas:
Make the "picture" links stand out more.
For example, "Instant Feedback" doesn't look like it would be a link. Make it more obvious. Have it change color when you hover your mouse over it.
The same applies to the "Top O&A Sites" on the right and the main navigation (home/stations/photos/etc) at the top. Instead of having "home" always be orange, have whatever section you are under be orange and whenever you hover over one, have it be orange.
It's REALLY little things like that, that makes a big difference in terms of design and how it is to navigate the site.
And of course, yes, I'll be someone else to say it (again). Sever all ties with FoundryMusic.com and let O&A have their own dedicated server. It makes the show look little and unprofessional when it's linking to another site, especially one as messy and ugly as Foundry. Plus, it's just a fucking pain in the ass. If you really CAN'T sever ties with Foundry, at LEAST completely redo Foundry completely.
A GREAT idea would be to just integrate YouTube.com somehow.
Hell, maybe even make a deal with YouTube.com to have a dedicated official O&A section or SOMETHING along those lines.
Edit: Haha, we both mentioned YouTube at the same time. It's a sign people.
Great job steve!

Having dedicated servers for media, like Akamai, would be great, but I don't feel YouTube is the better alternative to Foundry. Foundry can offer a better quality wmv or mpg than YouTube's flv.

I've said the same on several occasions, and gotten no response nor has the site changed...
Bottom line, you're not really saving any file size by zipping a compressed video file. Also, why do you need to take me to a download page and then have the download open yet another page? Just give me a link to the fucking file already.
The only thing that could make getting files from foundry more difficult is if they put a password on the zip file.

Oh my g-d, shut the fuck up already. How many times do I have to post this.
1) Foundry is never going away until Steve gets fired or quits, and even then it will be a lengthy arguement over who retains the rights to what.
2) We intend to re-code all movies in Flash, like YouTube.
3) We intend to eliminate zip archiving our content.
4) We intend to redesign FoundryMusic, improving searching and eliminating the search query time interval. BTW, you can eliminate yourself by clearing cookies, for the time being.
It's clear to me that those complaining the design is too "pastel" have absolutely nothing better to do than complain.

There's a valid reason for zipping the files. Most browsers will try to stream a native video or audio file. Foundry gives you the option to save the ZIP file directly. YouTube is a pain in the ass if you actually want to save the file they are streaming.
All this bitching is insane! Considering the ridiculous amount of content that Steve & Jeff (and whoever else toils over FoundryMusic) provide us FOR FREE, I just don't comprehend the whining about an extra click here or there.

If you did that, we'd be forced to SU the fuck out of all the content. The irony is the SU sites would have 10 times the navigational ease.

I think this is the big issue. You sweethearts at FM are doing your best.. but XM/CBS should pay for an all-out multimedia site, with all the bandwidth they can handle.
Perhaps the issue is that they want to be able to own and control their own site.. (incase they get fired) I don't know how things work behind the scenes.. but the site as it is, is pretty easy to get content from the past week or so. That's good enough, but everybody wants to bitch about something.

The bottom line is, the content should never be hosted by Opie & Anthony, because they wouldn't own the content, CBS/XM will, and do you really think they are more progressive and enlightened when it comes to racey material than we are?
Do you have any idea how much content would never see the light of day if it wasn't hosted and managed by FoundryMusic?
You never will, because you're not privy to the kind of ridiculous conversations Steve and I have regarding the victorian sensibilities of some of these companies and the lengths they will go to protect themselves from the FCC.

If ownership of content is really an issue, then just email the pics and O&A vids out to the fansites. You could do it with a single daily email in under 10 minutes.
You won't have to manage anything or get bitched at, and everyone will get the files they want.

If ownership of content is really an issue, then just email the pics and O&A vids out to the fansites. You could do it with a single daily email in under 10 minutes.
You won't have to manage anything or get bitched at, and everyone will get the files they want.
Fan sites are unreliable for a number of reasons.
1) They don't have the bandwidth (usually the case) to serve the entire audience.
2) They don't get around to posting them fast enough. (sometimes the case, esp when you consider people have thier own lives and jobs as well as families to deal with)
3) They don't own the clips.
4) They could very well turn around and start charging you or posting ads or do whatever they want to turn a profit once they see traffic coming in. (very likely) You'd be exactly where you started.
5) They don't have the storage space. (Our file library is nearly a terabyte.)
6) They don't have the financial resources and the sites are either shut down for non-payment or if its free, the free hosting company complains about abuse of bandwidth and shuts it down.
These are all things we've considered and ultimately decided it was too risky.

What interest would they have in that? Also, if they fund it then they are in cohoots(sp?) and XM and CBS could be held responsible for the content... theoretically.
Bingo. Keeping it on foundrymusic protects the show and the broadcasting networks, since there is no money trail connecting foundry and O&A directly.

Doesn't O&A's production company pay Steve's salary? If not, doesn't XM pay him? That seems like a pretty big connection.

No to the first, yes to the 2nd, but Steve is allowed to do whatever he wants with the money he earns from his paycheck. As it is a Steve funded operation, there is no directly connection. Yes the arguement could be made, but as far as the paper trail goes, it ends with a pay stub as an XM employee.
