I was listening to the replay this afternoon and something Ant said took me back about forty years. It was when they were talking about toy guns and Ant said that one of the kids had a toy 50 cal machine gun. I couldn't believe it. I had one of those in the late 60's or early 70's and it was great.
It looked exactly like ones that you've seen the WWII B-17's but it came with a seperate tripod that you connected to the gun. It had a rubber belt that you fed through the gun, which you loaded with plastic or rubber bullets(can't remember). You would lift up the lid, lay in the belt and close it and a friend would feed it in. You would then shot it by holding it with both hands and using your thumbs on the trigger. You would pull back the lever on the side to get it ready to shoot.
This had to be the greatest toy of the time. We would mount it on top of a hill and the other kids would have to try and attack you and over take you without being hit, something that was impossible. Once I stole my brothers m-80's and would throw them down the hill at my friends. It was great. A bunch of kids scared as shit running away while m-80's are being thrown at them.
Did anyone else have this and WBL , is this the type you remember? Thanks for the memories.

When I was a kid in the 80s, I witnessed the downfall of toy guns. Cap and disc guns were being pulled from shelves for causing injury, but good ol' water guns stuck around for a long time. The best, and most prized, waterguns among my friends were the Larami made mechanized replicas. (Beretta'ss, Uzi's, Mac-10's etc) I used to have a couple before they were forced to make the tiny nozzles red. Then produced under Galoob, they were forced to make the guns in neon or dayglo colors with the same molds. Thugs would then just paint them, so they were pulled from the market too. The end of an era.
Now they force kids to use fag guns like those super soakers. Shame.

Toy guns still rock if you know where to look. This is a Walther Nighthawk that shoots .177 caliber pellets:

It's a toy if you consider that kids in Lebanon are playing with real guns.

In my opinion, Pellet guns and air rifles are not really toys. They're more like bikes or mopeds. That is, half way between the toy trike you'd ride as a kid, and the motorcycle you want as an adult.
They actually have some killing power at short range. Replica waterguns on the other hand, are only dangerous to the owner for how they can be perceived.

I so did too! I still have some of the old Entertech water machine guns. Clips and all! Still look great. I figure I'd keep em as a collector's item.

I grew up in rural Pennsylvania. Much like Opie we just used sticks for guns. It usually ended with some one breaking the stick over some one elses head/back. What fun times.

My brother and I made tons of slingshots as a kid. My grandma would bring home surgical tubing from the hospital. Those things would end up having nearly 50 lbs of pull. You could bust bottles with a pebble at 20 yards. My favorite cap gun was a metal replica of an 1865 Colt Navy revovler . It had the weight and feel of the real thing, and no red plug in the end so if you stuck it in someone's face they would be shitting themselves. Great toy. I miss that one. The other great cap gun was a replica of a .30 cal. M1 carbine. That one was great. We also had a ton of stick guns and swords as kid, in case we broke the other ones or other kids that didn't have one came over.

Hey grail, remember wrist rockets, a sling shot that fit over the wrist. And for ammo, going to the train tracks and getting a bucket of iron ore/taconite pellets.

My father worked in a factory and would bring me home these solid metal balls which I used in my sling shot. They were the size of large ball bearings. I realize now I could have killed someone with them. Those were the days.

I didn't grow up in MN so I didn't get the iron ore/taconite pellets till I moved to OH and worked in the steel mill. We would shoot the rats in the high bins (underground storage area for the ore and coke and stuff) with them at night. Most of the time as a kid we would use pebbles from out of the creek, round and smooth. Fun stuff.

it was an item i was tracking on ebay a few weeks ago. perfect timing that ant mentioned these last week. i too remember the solid green one and am holding out for one of those. this "camo" one went for about $30, i seem to remember. oh, and before anyone starts to think the automated barrel end is orange to tip off clerks in case of a hold up.. it ain't. it was to simulate muzzle flash.. man, i miss the good old days.

man, i remember in comic books you could not only buy wrist rockets.... but also these "african big game hunter blow dart guns". i remember in the ad the guy had on one of those "daktari" hats with the leopard band and a safari vest and junk.

we're old men friend, if we had that back in the day we'd all be blind.
anyhow, all I had was the stupid winchester western lever action rifle with the yellow rubber bullets. I had to live vicariously through my buddy who's dad served time (thereby making him the coolest dad ever!) and would buy him some kick-ass pellet rifles.
