My gf is anything but a metal fan. In fact, she listens to whatever is on, but in the realm of dance and r&b. I should kick her in the teeth based solely on that, or tell her to pick something up for me from gangbangsquad.com's apartment, but I won't.

She wondered what metal shows were like. She thought there was drugs, drinking, and widespread violence. She was surprised to see such things as sedate crowds watching Satyricon at an outdoor fest and the people captivated and simply enjoying the music with respect, as if it was a symphony. I'm not going to sit here and bash you Zeo, but it does annoy me that you get so defensive. You like the commercial brand of "metal". That is fine, and I won't slag you for it one bit. I think a lot of peoples problem with you is that you don't seem to want to explore the realms of the metal genre. I guarantee that once you got into it, and discovered the amazing bands out there, you would start having a different opinion of what you are currently listening to.

As far as metal fans being elitist. I say so what. In my honest opinion, metal has the biggest talent pool, and creativity than any other genre of music.

I say listen to what you like, but also encourage to step outside of the boundries of what is forced on you.

Metal is my true love, but I also enjoy Jazz, Blues, and Classical, and old Motown stuff. I think you will find that most people who choose metal as their main genre of music also recognize, and like other genres as well.

I would be willing to bet you that you could list your 10 favorite bands, people in this thread could give you at least 3 bands that aren't as well known as the commercial bands that you like that do something similar, and do it much better, and with more creativity.

Yeah, my last korn album was Issues for me. I gave em that as a last chance and wasn't impressed at all. My friend bob on the other hand picked up their last album and loved it and he's a big metal guy which kinda weirded me out.... it is just personal preference after all.

I DESPISE Papa Roach. My friends knew them back when we all lived in NorCal and we HATED their lead singer. My friend was doing a show with them and the lead singer of Papa Roach before the show said:

If you know who all of those guys are, than you're a music snobb, you're out of touch with the hip youth, and you shouldn't be arguing with an average American about music because you no longer get it.
