The wife and I sprung for an extremely fancy new washer and dryer set last month and I put our old ones up on Craigslist. For the second week in a row I've had someone lined up to come for them only to have it not happen. Last week they emailed me at the last minute telling me someone gave them a set for free so they didn't need mine. Then I had someone who was supposed to come today and look at them and they were a no-show. I just got an email about it with one of the usual excuses, a family member had to go to the hospital so they want to reschedule. I replied that they can come out during the week. I am not giving up any more of my precious weekend time. I also deleted the 2-week-old ad and relisted it today. I hope that gets me more interest and I get someone else to come take them.

Craigslist sucks for selling stuff. I always get emails from people saying that they want to send me a money order and all I need to do is ship it to them. It always seems like a scam and I feel like I might be turning away legitimate buyers because of all the bullshit scammers. Good luck selling your stuff though.

I got my share of these emails. I only reply to the ones that I can tell are legit. But there were plenty of ones that started "I am moving to your country...." and that magically made the mouse click the delete button.

If you end up not being able to sell them, set them out on the curb. They will disappear in a few hours if that. Guaranteed.

This is a fancy area, and that would not go over well.

First of all, you can be fined for putting a refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, washer, or dryer out at the curb without taking off the doors, because a small child could get inside. You know the rest...

Second, I have to call for a special pickup if I do want to put out a major appliance for trash pickup. Then it can only be put out the night before the scheduled pickup.

Third, I want to get some cash for these things. We replaced them because we wanted something with larger capacities and that could be stacked to free up some space in our utility room.

Or freecycle. It'll be gone in an hour if you place an ad there, providing you're giving them away.

Let me preface this by saying I have bought, sold and given away many items on CL, including my old and current vehicle, without more than just one mildly disappointing purchase.

I have a nice blue lazy-boy chair in good condition with no major flaws that I posted on CL for free. It smells fine, it's not stained or ripped and it's quite comfortable. I have had FOUR no-shows in the past week and a half, not to mention the idiot calling to see if it would fit in the trunk of his honda accord. Today, it was dropped off in front of a local church with a sign on it that says, "FREE CHAIR!". If that fucking thing is there tomorrow, it deserves to be burned or thrown in a dumpster, friggin orphan chair that it is.

I feel your pain, Sinn Fein.

I've bought numerous things from Craigslist. This is my first attempt at selling anything.

I hear nothing but bad shit about that site. 100X the scammers than ebay, why the fuck use it to begin with?

as for the washer and dryer. Donate the fucking thing. Get a receipt and write off the entire cost for taxes. If it is worth $200 say it was worth $300 for the trouble.

Single donations under $500.00 you don't need a receipt for.

After all the grief, I had someone email me yesterday and come pick them up today. So, it worked out nicely in the end.

I love craigslist for buying shit (i got my bass for really cheap, as well as the car im going to buy), but im scared shitless of selling shit on there. Its way too wide open and i really am to lazy to deal with bulshit from people

I got a little supplemental enjoyment out of this today. I had two people who had been jerking me off before call today wanting to come tonight to look at the washer and dryer. First of all, I told previously both of them that I am at work on weeknights. Second, both of them were supposed to be getting back to me this past Saturday (neither did).

I took great pleasure in telling them that I had someone email me Saturday night and come promptly Sunday morning with cash-in-hand to complete the transaction.
