I used to drive a tow truck, and we would get like $30-$50 depending on the weight. and pickups are are light. Donating would probably get you the most money, even though you have to wait till tax time.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about getting the money now I just want it out of my driveway..

My only concern is that I lost the title years ago and dont want to get another copy from DMV.. I have ALOT of parking tickets that I refuse to pay... Fuck the town, I'll park wherever I want!

Thanks for your input sshea

I got rid of a car without the title once. I just called and arranged to drop it off. The junkyard called once to see it I had the title or not. I didn't return the call, and never heard anything else about it.

Put full coverage on it. Drive it to Newark and write N(i)GGERS dont touch on the side. Watch it get smashed and collect 150 from Geico.

I drove one POS to the scrap yard with no title and got fifty bucks. Wasn't looking for the money, just wanted to get rid of it. Had to fill out a form (for the lost title) showed my license and that was that.

Maybe a local HS could use it in their automotive shop as a fixer-up.

I just talked to the guy at the scrap yard.. he is going to give me about $130 for it.. Now I just have to dodge the cops and get it there.

I really just want to get it out of the driveway.

I had to drive right past a police station to drop it off with no valid inspection, registration or insurance on it.

Good luck, bro. :action-sm

I dumped an old Chevy Vega to a yard years ago. Got 50 bucks for it.
Not bad since that's all I paid for it and drove it for 2 years without
spending more than 200 bucks on it during that time.

the inspection ran out in November and it was a friggen cop magnet the last couple of weeks that I drove it. There were cops where I have NEVER seen them before.

Edit: The more I think about it I feel bad getting rid of it.. I have had that truck for 12 years... its still going to the scrap yard though.

If it runs and you can drive it, look in your local paper classifieds, junk guys always have ads there, some guys are paying upwards of $200 a car right now, and that is to come pick it up.
But get rid of it fast, scrap metal is going down again. The barges heading to the steel mills in China are just about full and ready to leave port.
After this week, you'll be lucky to get $50 for it. Good Luck

Scrapped three cars last week at Mercer Wrecking here in Trenton, was getting $7 a hundred..
The only problem with Camden Iron and Mercer Wrecking Etc. is you have to drain all fluids, pull gas tank, and all tires or they won't take em....Best bet is to call a local junk yard, they pay a little less for the car but that is because we have to do the same things to the friggin cars to get rid of them.
But don't let junkyard tell you they are getting nothing for the cars...
Most junkyards are getting $10/wheel for steel wheels, $20/wheel for Aluminum, anywhere from $25 to $75 for the Catalytic Converter (Part of the Exhaust), About $200 for the car itself (until next week), AND with the price of fuel these days, a lot of guys are storing the fuel in containers and filtering it right into their own personal vehicles....
Also WE don't usually get our chops busted for leaving empty gas tanks or tires in the cars when we take em to the crusher

My Buddy work at a steel mill that uses a lot of scrap. Told me one time someone left a gas tank in one of the cars, it blew up when it went through the shredder.

You're lucky the back wheels didn't fall off. I had the exact same year and model and that year had a BAD rust problem. Mine rusted all the way through the unibody and the whole trunk fell out. Some idiot still bought it and drove it off anyway.

I was actually at mercer one time when this happened, that is one hell of a boom. weird cause the yard usually checks all cars to be sure there is no gas in the car, gas tanks are allowed as long as there is no gas cap, or gas in the tank, and there has to be a visible hole in the bottom of the tank.

bringing this thread back from the dead.

Does anyone know if when you surrender your plates in New York State, do they make you pay any outstanding tickets?

I have a fuckload of parking and inspection tickets on my old truck and really dont want to pay them.. Ever.. Fuck this state, I already give them enough money.

If you have a decent income the donation thing is the way to go. When the dude comes out you can ask him to pad the reciept and you'll make a killing on your tax return. My piece of shit truck that I could have maybe gotten $500 for got me over $1500 back on my taxes.

I'm probably going to do that, I just need to turn the plates in so I can terminate the insurance.
