The permit test only takes about a 20 minutes or less.

The ID card is just like getting a licence, you get a # when you walk in and wait for your # to be called. It's usually less than a 1/2 hour nowadays, the DMV has been sped up quite a bit in recent years.

Just bring as much ID with you that you have in your house. SS card, bank statements, CC statements, utility bills, passport, etc. BRING EVERYTHING.

You never know what you may need or what will help.

You'll walk out of the door with a temporary, non-picture ID. You should receive the permanent picture ID within a week or two.

At least that's how it was when I had to get a new photo for my license about 3 or 4 years ago.

The process in the actual DMV office is pretty quick these days, since they started the system with the tickets and the big LED boards. And considering the neighborhoods some of the DMV offices are in, the faster you can get in and out, the better.
