Okay, so I had my ipod on shuffle and this band called Protest the Hero comes on. Now I have no idea where I got the music, but I'm guessing someone on here recommended it once and that's all it takes. I trust wackbag.
Anyway, this shit really rocks.
And don't gimmie any of that "that stuff isn't 'cool' so I won't listen" because you'd be really showing your true colors of homodom to say such a thing. If something rocks, it rocks...
Yeah. but Sunsetspawn, those guys dress like...
shut up, I really don't give a fuck, it rocks, end of story.
So if you haven't heard them, do yourself a fucking favor and hear them.
Try "Turn Soonest to the Sea"

I heard them on XMLM, and I really don't like them. To me the sound like every other emo metalcore band out there.

You mean you're going to get Tommy Morrison's blood to knock on his door?

Maybe I'm looking at it from a musician's point of view.
It's tight, heavy, and technical.
They've almost totally done away with typical atonal metal vocals, which, let's be honest, is getting TIRED.
The song structure, chord progressions, and vocals display a very mature understanding of harmony and rhythm much like a fusion band.
To write these guys off as some sort of emo, hardcore, or punk would be very superficial. If you really give the album Kezia a chance you'll notice that these guys out class a lot of metal's leading acts.
And that's my word.

I gave it a chance today, and it isn't anything original at all. Compared to a lot of metal bands out there right now, it isn't anything that technical. If you are into it, that is cool, I just don't like it.

I listened and have to say it isn't much different from much of the music drawing the ire of many in music. I did recognize the technicality, but just because something is technical, doesn't mean it's good. It has to be presented well and integrated with the music, not inserted or superimposed just for the sake of having a protools inserted random shredding snippit. Symphony X sometimes draws the criticisms of many for this reason; they write around a shredding solo for Romeo. Musicians won't only look for technicality because even hacks can be technical. Style and integration is the hard part.
I have to give it a thumbs down because they are putting as much random shit together in a bag, arranging it through protools, then recording it. I also hate the core vocals that go into a tender, emotive clean section. There is little class or genre defining style to this.

well said sir....yengive(sp?) malmsteen is ultra technically proficiant but he lacks any and all feeling. his solos are basicly hey watch how fast i can play this scale.

Tattered,
Great addition. Romeo is styled after Malmsteen, too. One thing I noted was how emotionally powerful Chris Poland was in Megadeth, using restraint and teetering on the edge of his technical ability. This may have brought out the best in him because on his solo album, there was so much lacking that I couldn't believe it was him.

And let's get something straight, shredding SUCKS ASS 99% of the time. I'm not impressed by guitarists doing something I can also do.
When fancy guitar playing is backed by a fancy band, complete with fancy vocals and superior songwriting skills, then, and only then, am I impressed.

If the music is NOT metal, then please don't post it under a topic labeled "Metalheads". Also, your thread should not be titled "Metalheads" if you write "I know it's not 'metal' but this shit really rocks."
This is just for future reference. :action-sm
