I just got the star wars movies that came out today with the original versions on them, and they look like shit!! God damn you lucas, don't you realize you can still digitally touch up these movies without completely butchering them??? There's a middle ground for christs' sake! I only watched a bit of Return of the Jedi, and on the computer monitor it looks ok, on the 70" screen, it's a bit blurry and grainy, and my husband says the contrast is off. Plus, you can still see the boxes around the ships in some of the battle scenes. I don't know why I'm annoyed, I basically paid $55 to see the ewoks sing their little song at the end of Return of the Jedi. I just thought they were going to be digitally mastering the original for dvd, not just using the original transfer.

The whole point of the release of these DVDs was to have the ORIGINAL theatrical release available to the public. That means no re-mastering, no touch-ups...NOTHING but how it looked in the theatres back in the 70's and 80's. Don't blame Lucas on your idiocy. He's just a whore mongering pig that is going to syphon all Star Wars fans for as much as he can.

Oh don't worry, Lucas will absolutely put out the "middle ground" version where he improves the shitty quality (no garbage mattes) but leaves out all of the shit he added (Gredo shooting first, etc).

The 5 or 6 lame ass things he did when he remastered the originals are the things that got all the attention.

The uber fans bitched and bitched about it for YEARS! So now here you are. They now have what they were asking for.

Argh, I knew they said it was the original theatrical version, I just didn't realize they meant it that literally. It's definitely my own fault for assuming buying a dvd equated to dvd quality. Thankfully, Return of the Jedi is the only special edition dvd I have more than minor issues with, what with the two different songs (ewoks and jabbas palace), the whole added ending, and especially having hayden christenson in it. So i can enjoy the effects in the first two and the nostalgia in that one. On the plus side, the dvd cases for these match the ones for the first 3, so at the least they'll all go together. Of course, I read a rumor that he's possibly putting out a 6 dvd box set of all of them for the 30th anniversary, including changes to the recent ones (like fixing yoda in phantom menace). I hate not only that I missed the most important part of these dvds (possibly cause i was so excited about their release) but also that i'm going to buy the new set too if and when it comes out. fuck me.

Watch the remastered versions if you want realistic effects. You can deal with Greedo shooting first and a few extra storm troopers in exchange for seeing the Millennium Falcon actually pulling a cool TURN when it blasts out of the hanger in Mos Eisley.

Maybe the 1st special editions, but I can't fucking deal with the 'extra' tweaks they made on the DVD release. What a fucking disaster - changing the dialogue in Empire between the Emperor and Darth Vader in some half assed attempt at making his dumb prequels make more sense, and adding the fag-boy version of Anakin to the end of Jedi. As your gf said, there is a middle ground, where they leave in the cool effects that didn't fuck up the movie and take out the stuff that didn't work. And I'm sure I'll be buying that when they come out with the ULTIMATE FAN REQUEST EDITION!! God I stink...

I just bought the "Digitally Mastered" box set. When it said, "digitally mastered for sound and video," I figured it was the original movies just touched up a bit. But what I got was the stupid Special Edition bullshit with the CGI and the scene with Han talking to Jabba and all that garbage.

Why can't they just have the ORIGINAL movies with DIGITAL TOUCHUP, and no extra shit?
