If Air America had filed for bankruptcy every time someone rumored it to be doing so, we would have ceased to exist long ago; it may be frustrating to some that this hasn’t happened. No decision has been taken to make any filing of any kind, we are not sure of the source of these rumors and frankly can not respond to every rumor in the marketplace.

I will agree with one point though. They put their hat in the ring, and if this bankruptcy is due to them not being able to exist as a real business and get money for ads the way everyone else does, then you deserve it. You wanna play with the big boys, you have to get your money the same way.

A business going bankrupt isn't exactly "stopped" speech. I think people are happy because the Air America group was so smug about the radio business. They acted like all they had to do was broadcast and they'd be right up there with other entertaining shows. I lost all respect when they stopped basing Clear Channel on all the shows, which was a common show topic early on. Oh yeah, big, horrible, oppressive, in the hip-pocket-of-Bush Clear Channel picked up the Air America network in about 25 cities, coincidence?

I believe NPR gives the left a similar voice. Supported by our tax dollars of course. Most of the people I work with are liberals and that's what they listen to. Not Air America. Even they concede it's mostly unlistenable.

Honestly, these days I ask anyone to define "liberal" or "right wing" or pick whatever label... Mainly terms thrown around to describe and dismiss people with any difference of opinion. Especially in this day and age where these so called republicans have blown government three times bigger, spent like drunken sailors, and are as reactionary and emotional as fucked lab rats.

Not the biggest Air America fan, but political talk radio is dying all around from lack of any creativity anymore. This is just another facet.

At this time they still haven't paid back the charity. This is from yesterday. How long ago did this happen? I guess when they go under the charity gets fucked.

Cohen convinced the nonprofit club—he sat on the board—to OK a massive interest-free loan to keep the network afloat in its early days. When news of the arrangement broke—liberal radio net steals from poor kids!—Air America agreed to repay the loan in full, and the New York City Department of Investigation started looking into the propriety of the transaction. Air America says the money is in an escrow account controlled by its lawyers, who have been instructed by the DOI to wait until their investigation is complete before transferring it back to the Boys and Girls Club. But neither Jack Kiley, an attorney for the Boys and Girls Club, nor Emily Gest, a spokeswoman for the DOI, could confirm that the escrow account actually exists. Asked whether she was certain that Air America had indeed deposited the funds in an escrow account, Gest would only say, "The Department of Investigation expects Air America to uphold its commitments to repay the victims of this scheme." Kiley says that a small portion of the loan has been repaid, and he expects that the remainder is forthcoming.

Really ? Apparently you have never seen Arbitron ratings for "The Savage Nation", a talk show hosted by Michael Savage (Weiner). It has a predominately conservative air about it, but he is no fan of President Bush.

I listen to Savage often. His stories of life in the 50's are entertaining. But there's a thing about radio, and any other medium where you're reaching millions of people. It's almost impossible at a certain point to be not "connected"

Too many people want too many things, and eventually your message isn't your own anymore. Savage was great a few years ago. He really was a more Maverick type of talk show host. But nowadays he's pretty much right there with the rest of them. And I always have found it amusing when a son of Russian Jews starts to advocate what's tantamount to locking people in camps for difference of opinion.

Political talk radio for the most part is what it is. It's not a place to debate ideas or discuss the issues. It's merely a place for a bunch of people who have these whacked out ideas to congregate with the rest of the people who are nothing but carbon copy clones and hear a big voice on a speaker affirm every twisted thing they believe in.

No individuality, you can't dissent, or ask questions, or disagree, or deviate from the script or else you're an evil person. And there are a bunch of people out there tuning it out more and more each day.
