YMMV --- smoke what 'cha like (Unless its Swisher Sweeets, Phillies, or Backwoods). We smoked those cheapies (this was before "blunts" were invented and folks still rolled their own joints w/ E-Z Widers) when we were 17 or 18 while shooting pool at Guys and Dolls in Belleville N.J. on Washington Ave years ago. No one cared that kids were smoking cigars back then. I miss that rathole. Ahhh, my misspent youth in beautiful Jersey. It sure was an education! Ain't met anyone like me since I moved out here outside Seattle, that's for sure! Sometimes it out here feels like the end scene of Goodfellas when Henery Hill is talking about ordering spaghetti and getting noodles with ketchup. What a friggin' strange trip its been so far.....

The Torano folks make a good product (I think some of their cigars are rolled in Fuente factories, but don't quote me for sure on that). I've never had a poorly made or foul tasting Torano. Enjoy it! Then Pick up a Fuente Short Story for a nice little smoke --- that's what I'm having later thisafternoon.
A good cigar is one little bit of proof that God loves us!

Avo #9s are my personal favorites!
I have a box sitting in one of the humis.... now if I could just find it without taking everything out of my cooladors and letting the wife see all my smokes. If she does I'm a dead man!

What is the size of the #9? I like Churchills or lonsdales esp in maduro. Also, it's been a few years since I had an Avo, but as I remember they were not maduros but also not mild

Yeah, I love the Perdomo special reserve maduros. I also enjoy Gloria Cubana maduro cigars as well. I like a strong, heavy smoke. Maker's Mark also makes some great whiskey infused cigars. I go through a lot of cigars, (2-3 a day in the summer) so the bulk of what I smoke are Conseurgas. These are my reasonably priced "throw away cigars" They are factory seconds of major cigar brands, moderately priced.

Oohhh, LGC Wavells in Maduro! I absolutely love those cigars. I bought 4 boxes last time I ordered smokes (friggin WA tobacco taxes) and my wife just about shit! (They are a really great cigar at a great price of about $65 or so a box). I tried to explain this fact, no luck..... thank God the futon is very comfy.

I wish I had brought that Torano to work, I have some downtime today :(

For anyone that hasn't tried a Helix, or is just looking for an excellent "everyday" smoke, give them a shot. The purple ring maduros are a bit hard to find at the smoke shops but the blue ring robustos are just as good for a great mild smoke. I actually worry about the price of these being so cheap, wondering when they'll go up. If you can find the purple ring maduros those are like gold in terms of flavor. The Pyramids and the Super 8's are the best at around $60 a box.

Turtle,
Connies are a great "who cares if I get to finish smoke" or a good hand out cigar when your mooch friends who don't smoke come over for a BBQ/party (or your B-I-L who doesn't smoke cigars is around!) Funny, I have no Connies left in any of my humis any more! Must have given out too many of 'em to the non-smoking friends I have this past summer.
I really dig Perdomo Squared cigars --- they are flat (like box-pressed) and I picked up a bunch of closeout boxes for a song about a year or so ago --- but my very favorite Perdomos are the La Tradition Series in maduro. Like smoking chocolate! Brought 1/2 a box of them on a cruise to Alaska with me 2 yrs ago and killed off every one (as well as some other cigars like LGC Serie R's, which are a very nice powerful smoke that tend to keep people away from you when you want to be alone in the cigar bar).
enjoy,

Ive been selling cigars for about 12 years now. Ive smoked a bunch.
The best Ive ever had, and by a long shot is any of the Ashton Aged Maduros. Ive got one box Ive had simmering in my storage humidor for about 8 years. They are incredible cigars. Hard to find, if you see them grab a couple. You wont regret it.
Anything by Padron is good. With so many high priced cigars I keep going to a 2000 or 300o Padron. Nat or Mad. They are light smokes, but great on flavor.
Also the Hoya or Punch (Pretty much same cigar) Rothchilds. Hard to beat under $4 a stick retail.
When I feel like a fancy man, I smoke some of the 64 series Padrons. They are tough to beat.
My customers from Cuba say the closest to a real Cuban cigar is The LGC Series maduros. You know you are smoking a cigar when you light one of those up.
Recently I got a box of cigars from Rocky Patel. We had them on order for over two years. I don't remember what they were called they sold really quick. Came in a box of 200, with no bands.
CAO is making some really good smokes right now. The MX2's are great. If you like a Cameroon wrapper, CAO makes a really good one also.
My favorite CAO is from their Soprano line. You are probably paying an extra 20%-25% more for the Soprano name. I thought it was going to be a dog rocket but its a really good smoke. Funny story. We had to sign numerous wavers, and documents stating we would never put them (Soprano CAO cigars) on our website, or mention them on any advertisements. HBO doesnt want anyone to use the Soprano name or HBO to promote any cigar stores.
Sorry to be a little long winded.

Padron and CAO both make excellent smokes! I really like the Brazillia CAO line of cigars as they have a nice flavor profile that's a bit different from most other cigars. Monte #2's are great, but there are a lot of smokes I like better for the same or less price range.
Too many cigars to talk about! Find a good local retailer and start buying a few singles till you find some you absolutely have to have a box of. Then buy a large humidor and start giong broke!
Also log onto www.herfersparadise.com and create an account. You can then view the Specials Board where members and retailers post daily, weekly. and monthly specials! (but you have to be a registered member to view the Specials Board!)
Smoke 'em if you got 'em!

Don Diegos --- a great mild smoke! I had a few boxes open for the guys at my wedding reception (photographer got some great pics at my wedding of the guys smoking stogies). I still smoke one on ever anniversary as I have a few left. (wish I bought a few more boxes so I could continue the tradition with the original cigars from my wedding).

LGC Serie R ---- I agree totally with whoever said these were top-notch cigars! Absolutely kick-ass smokes for you big stogie guys. Huge, strong, in-your- face flavor profile, without being sour, harsh, or too overpowering. Just plain good flavor and lots of it. I have 1 box left that I am hoarding .... I don't give 'em away to almost anyone!

JOYA DE NICARAGUA: ANTANOS ---- Another great strong profile cigar. Really nice smoke witha kick!

LGC Wavell Maduros are still my favorite cigar. Everything about them is perfect: flavor, construction, and cost. Can't be beat!
YMMV,

Some of you fellas need to be more specific than just saying "Perdomo" or CAO.... Name a specific stick instead of just a giant company...

So here's my list, I hot linked to CigarInternational.com, which is a great website for ordering. Also linked to JRCigars. MODS: I have nothing to do with these sites NOR are these affiliate links. I did it just to be helpful...

I'll start with stuff I think isn't that great, or just over-priced:

Cohiba Red Dots Dominicans. (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-CGA&stext=cohiba) VERY OVER-PRICED AND OVER RATED. Hell, even Cuban Cohibas if you can find them, are over-priced... I believe the Siglo VII was the one I tried and I wasn't that impressed.

5 VEGAS: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-5VA&cat=3) yechh... not even mediocre. avoid. there are lots of different 5 Vegas, I'm talking about the regular sticks. the others might be better, for instance 5 Vegas Gold are pretty good.

Hoyo de Monterrey: their regular sticks. Just okay. Not as powerful as some will tell you.

Te Amo Madero. BAD! I hate maderos so I'm biased, but these are bad...

Punch Raro Corojo (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-POA&cat=3): good but not that great. Not that strong for a corojo. There are better Punch out there.

Punch Grand Cru: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-PCA&cat=3)fun smoke but again, not that hot, regular Punch are better...

CAO Black: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-OHA&cat=3) good but not as amazing they want you to think.

Gurkha regulars: not that great, pretty boring.

CAO L'anniversario Extreme: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-AYA&cat=3)BORING SMOKES.

HERE IS MY RECOMMENDED LIST:

Sancho Panza: their regular sticks, not the extra fuerte. Very underrated stick.

Acid Blondie: delicious stick for a flavored. like smoking good incense.

CAO: Criollo (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-OPA&cat=3)VERY POTENT STICK! Recommended!

CAO: Italia GREAT SMOKE!! Love this stick...

CAO: Brazilia (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-OBA&cat=3)AMAZING! This is my favorite cigar. I like them so much I bought a box of Amazon's (6x60). The Amazon is my favorite size. Lambada is a good size as well, but for me, AMAZON is probably the strongest, most satisifying smoke out there.

A. Fuente: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-AFA&cat=3) Lovely smokes. Great traditional cigar.

Graycliff PGX: the most expensive and flavorful cigar I ever smoked... normally when I smoke an expensive cigar (Cohiba) I just don't see the justification of price, but this cigar is different. smoking it puts you in a different place and a different frame of mind... you are at the bahamas, sitting in a hammack, smoking a graycliff. recommended if you can afford it.

Gurkha Class Regent: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-GMA&stext=regent)square pressed. fantastic smokes, maybe a little bit overpriced, but definitely a great smoke.

Bolivar: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-BVA&cat=3)you get a great smoke with any Bolivar. They make some good Cubans too.

Punch Puro: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-1ZA&cat=3) I like these for a break from the regular Punch. Pretty tastey smokes.

Punch: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-PUA&cat=3) Great smokes! GET THE LONDON CLUBS!!! Best bargain for a premium cigar out there. Avoid Cuban Punch though.

5 VEGAS GOLD: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-5GA&cat=3) flavorful, decent prices..

Torano Cameroon 1916: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-9BA&cat=3) One of my all time favorites.. You can't go wrong with these babies... Just fantastic, flavorful, nice strength, great smoke...

Cuban Honeys: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-1CA&cat=3) great for flavored cigars, have great bite. Try the cherry flavor.

Montecristo Afriques: (http://www.jrcigar.com/index.cfm?page=cigars&brand=MONTECRISTO%20AFRIQUE)fucking wonderful. One of my top 5 cigars. LOVE THESE. Try the Jambo size.

Montecristo: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-MTA&cat=3) the regular sticks are great. LOVE the Cuban version.

Romeo y Julieta: (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/prodDisp.asp?item=CS-ROA&cat=3) great brand, I like their crystal tubos with the H2000 wrapper. great smokes. Good cuban version

My favs are the Avo #2,and the Ashton Magnum.
R&J's are also excellent, as well as the Fuente Chatue (sp?)
I started on the Macanudo Prince Phillips, but moved on later. About 5 years ago, I finally had some real Cubans, but I was somewhat dissapointed. I figured they would be incredible, but they were not that much better than the "domestics" that I usually smoke. They were very good, just not as good as the hype would have you believe.

Taylor Pork Roll and other pork products available through the mail? Pure genius! Thank you Thank you Thank you! I'm going to place an order this weekend!
As far as cigars go, I haven't bought a box in over a year! I bought so many my wife almost left me --- between cigars,Scotch and guns, my habits tend to be expensive. Lots of fun, but very costly in many many ways! Luckily a Coach purse and a Coach Laptop bag smoothed things over with the little lady. Thank God for a Coach Outlet Store close by!
On to the cigars: I have a few small humidors (some full, some partially full, and some empty), I have an Aristocrat End Table Humidor (made by Bob Staebell, and its beautiful!), also I have 2 150qt (I think) Coleman Cooler-dors (got 'em from Costco).
To hopefully make RMPGP happy, here's a partial list of whats in the Aristocrat Humidor:
Top Drawer Boxes:
CAO La Extreme, Henery Clay Corona Gorda, Arturo Fuente Short Story, Arturo Fuente Don Carlos, Ashton Cabinet #6, Arturo Fuente Sun Grown Chateau Fuente, Arturo Fuente Sun Grown Cuban Belicoso, Cuesta Rey Centennario #11, Cuesta Rey Centannario #9 and Centennario #9 in Maduro, La Gloria Cubana Serie R #4 (which I'm hoarding!), Partagas Black Bravos, and Bahia Gold Maduro (I forget what size).

Whew! And yet there's more.....

Bottom Boxes:
Joya de Nicaragua 1970 Machitos (fantastic small cigar -- tastes like a big smoke), Torano Premium Selection Carlos I (2 boxes), Perdomo Squared Descartes Maduro and Perdomo Squared Toro Maduro, Perdomo La Tradition Cabinet Series #2 (2 boxes) and #3, Avo #9 Tubos, Avo Domaine #30, El Rico Habano - Habano Club (really nice mild smokes), La Gloria Cubana Wavells (1 3/4 boxes), Don Lino Havana Reserve Torpedo, CAO Gold Torpedo (partial box), Bahia Red Box Maduro (Robustos I think), CAO La Anniversaire Toro Maduro, and finally Perdomo Cuban Parejo Epicure (I am not too fond of these as they are just too large --- 6x62!)
Oh yeah, there's a top drawer for loose cigars which holds mostly odds, ends, and the remnants finished of mostly finished boxes that haven't made it to the smaller humidors yet.
I don't have the time (and my fingers are cramping up) to list whats in the all of the small humidors and whats in the 2 big cooler-dors. Let me just say there are a LOT of cigars in there!
I'll try to post links to some pics:

(Its still legal and OK to smoke in some of the Indian Tribal Casinos (the Tulalip Casino is very close to where I live) as its getting too cold to smoke outside in the evenings now --- boy, I've become a sissy! 55 degrees and I think its cold. What the hell happened to me?)
Cigars are your friends ---- the more you have, the happier you are!

Thanks for the kind words, guys. My cigar collection is quite large, but then again, I don't buy any more boxes unless there's a deal I just can't pass up! Even I realize I went a wee bit overboard (I could have spent some of that cash on more guns and knives!) but at least I have enough cigars to last me a long, long , long time!
-- :action-sm Sniper --- Thanks for changing the links into actual pics. My Link-fu isn't too strong so that was much appreciated!
My latest hobby in the past few months has been purchasing pocket knives. I've bought quite a few (to the chagrin of my wife) and so I think I'll give that a rest for a while, too, untill after Christmas. I am really digging Spyderco knives lately (been carrying a stainless Delica in my pocket as a money-clip/knife for the past 8 years or so and its held up like a champ). Their new stuff is really cool. I'd love a new Spyderco Polliwog but $85 bucks more this month would get me hung!
Gotta love cigars, but there are more vices out there whispering their sweet siren songs in my ears while I sleep. I am powerless against their charms! ------ Must buy more guns and knives (if I can't have any more cigars!)
Hopefully for Christmas I'll get that FN PS-90 I've been drooling over --- but I won't hold my breath...
Regards and "smoke 'em if you got 'em, (then shoot 'em and stab 'em  )

i had an Avo today. Very nice, a bit mild for my taste, but still a good smoke.

I had to revive this old thread... I've become much more particular about my taste in cigars lately. Avo #7 are my absolute favorite. Perfect taste, size, and burns evenly every time. I also tried a mini Avo today (I think it was an XO Nocturno), which was very good. I'm looking for something a little bolder than the mild taste of the traditional Avo, but the same fairly thin size of the #7. Any suggestions?

JR Cigars has a fine #7. I enjoy it a lot. If you want something different go to JohnHaycigars.com.

This might be a tad long winded but here goes:

Since this thread started I decided write Jose at Don Rigo (Ronnies guy) and told him my nOOb status but that I was interested in what a decent cigar was. He generously sent me a nice 5 stick sampler. 2 Robustos, one natural and one Maduro, a "Red" (Robusto with a red dyed wrapper) a Biaggio Panetela and a Torpedo. In that order I smoked them over 3 days and by the Torpedo I really began to enjoy them. Since then I've gone to my local smoke shoppe and sampled several brands. Heres a few:

Don Tomas Clasico Cameroon - Strong. tons of smoke and the most perfect ash. peppery/wood flavor. Great value at about 4 bucks

Arturo Fuente 858's - Came highly recommended but to me it was simply a bland, unexciting smoke.

Macanudo Rothschild - An OK smoke. Nothing I'd buy again but I'd smoke another if you gave it to me.

Acid Kuba Kuba - Controversial line of flavored aromatic sticks. This one has a strong clove scent with a very sweet wrapper. After a few drags it calmed down to a merely average cigar though well constructed. Overpriced IMO at $7.50 a pop.

Padron Panetela Maduro - Another slightly overrated smoke but it got better as I got to the middle.

Don Rigo's (http://www.rigoscigars.com/) - This is the brand Ronnie smokes. After trying all the previous and a few not mentioned I still enjoy these best. I bought a box of Torpedo Tens and while they weren't as consistent as they should've been (a couple were a bit overmoist and hard to draw from) overall I enjoyed them immensely. Their other brand is "Biaggio" which I belive is just a branded version of their Don Rigo line-up. The Robustos are very reasonable at $40 per bundle of 25 and those are what I'll be buying next for an everyday smoke. If you mention you are a R&F listener he'll hook you up with some nice extras.

I giggled... I really miss Mitch....

I'm sure the purists will hate me, but I like pretty much anything in the Drew Estates Acid lines.

I also really enjoy the Helix Maduro's

I also have a humidor full of cuban cigars. I have a contact in Jamaica that will ship them to me and send the labels under seperate post a few days later.

I had a Kahlua Robusto sitting in my box so i figured Saturday afternoon was as good a time as any for something a bit different.

http://www.cigarworld.com/brands/kahlua/images/39home.jpg

Smoking it now....man does this thing smell good, like a chocolate cake baking a little too long. Sweet wrapper but not cloying. The cigar itself is nicely constructed like all Drew Estate stuff. The Kahlua flavor is very subtle, almost undetectable. The tobacco is quite good. At over $7 I probably won't be grabbing one of these again unless I can get a deal on 'em but I won't turn one down if ya give me one, thats for sure :action-sm

BTW, does anyone else find the taste of cigars is improved immensely after smoking it for a bit, letting it go out and relighting it a couple hours later? It reminds of how leftovers improve with refrigerator time. :icon_mrgr

I had an Ashton 8-9-8 from a sampler box that I highly enjoyed. I saw that JR Cigars has an alternative for it. I'm not a cheap son of bitch but I can't afford a $175 for a box of cigars. Has anyone tried these? I'm really interested in these Don Rigos. They seemed too cheap to be good though. Am I wrong?

I just smoked a Nat Sherman Host cigar. It was a 5 x 50 Hobart with a very nice Connecticut wrapper. It was a mild/medium cigar but to me it leaned more towards the mild side. The only negative was the draw. I like a harder pull with my cigars. The air appeared to blow right through it. Very nice though. They are having a special on these right now from JR Cigar. I also ordered a bundle of Don Rigo Robustos. I'm hoping they are decent.

I had a really good Macanudo Don Diego the other day. Not too strong, pulled and burned well too.
