Acknowledging negative instant feedbacks on the air = bit killer

I'm being a chatty kathy on here today, and this one is a bit negative, but I'm curious to see what others think about this.... I'll preface this by saying I really LOVE Opie, he's great on the show, and he's best when he's working the calls and throwing poker chips as defenseless women....

I think the Instant Feedback is a great tool and feature for the show. When Opie reads negative posts on it shitting on the bit, it really stinks. I just don't see how using it in this way at all benefits the show.

To me it does the following:


1) Kills the flow of the show
2) Takes Ant out of the bit (he'll attack the idiot who was negative)
3) Takes the guest out of the bit (they don't see the feedback so they don't see it coming)
4) Gives credence to the idiot posting the negative comment - now he sees that posting negative shit will kill the bit he is shitting on and do it more often
5) Gives a way for Stern zombies to attack the show (similar to #4).

To me, Opie just shouldn't be reading the feedbacks frequently and especially not reading the negative ones. He gets distracted by the negative comments and everything goes to hell. Even when Opie tries to read funny shit from the feedback, he will interrupt the show telling them a funny comment has come in from instant feedback, but then it has scrolled off the screen too fast, and then he can't remember what the comment was....

I know Ant was kinda like "Ok get the instant feedback away from Opie", the other day.... So this is obviously something that is newer...

Anthony uses the instant feedback perfectly. He doesn't always interrupt the show and give users credit for feedback, instead he works the lines perfectly into his dialogue and kills with them... Very seemless. He never does the "Oh shit it scrolled off the screen" remark.

I'm not trying to throw Opie under the bus with this post. I'm a diehard fan of the show in every way. I am not trolling. I think Opie is great. He makes the show what it is. This is just something that has been nagging me lately.

I'm guessing it's just his OCD kicking in, where he sees some idiot posting and HAS TO respond (kinda like Ant on here). He'd be better off not looking at it at all...

And I'll also say that sometimes he does Instant Feedback perfectly like the line of the day one last week, but that's the exception and not the norm...

And I'm not trying to be an attention whore and get onto the show guy. I hate "trying to get onto the show guy". In fact, I hope no one from the show sees this. I'm just trying to see if other fans of the show feel the same way or am I simply being a silly goose about it (very possible).

So anyone else noticing this or is it just me?

would you rather them ignore all negative criticism like a certain hook-nose Jew? that's how O&A stay grounded, they take the good remarks and the bad remarks, if they only addressed all the ass-lapping and the praise, they'd get full of themselves and they won't know when things they're doing aren't all that funny or interesting but they'll keep doing it until their show becomes subpar. besides, i'd much rather hear them smash some Instant Feedback douchebag or some dumbass caller than hear call after call of "Hey guys, I love your show, you guys are so funny, I laughed so hard that almost crashed my car, you guys are the best, blah blah blah..."

I like the negative calls they take. Opie works those into the show perfectly. It's just the negative Instant Feedbacks usually pop the fuck out of nowhere in the middle of some great bit, and the flow is suddenly in the toilet. If Opie addressed negative feedbacks at better times instead of bringing the show to a halt, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Some drunk fucko slammed Vos at the MN show for playing a shitty gig by being here in MN. Vos responded by saying "Oh yeah stupid, well you paid to see me here", the guy responded by saying "No I didn't pay anything, my friends paid", then Vos replied with "Oh yeah, well time is money!" and looked around for support from the crowd to agree with him. I like the negative calls better then just the anonomous emails or instant feedback...i think they really can turn haters just by how they treat people who call in...they give respect, call them by name, etc...that shit works in turning haters into fans/listeners...that is the exact opposite of how most radio shows handle negative callers

I actually like both the good and bad feedback. It gives the show the uniqueness of not just reading what the "fanboys' are saying, they also read what the zombies and shitdicks are saying, even if all they do is tool on them. Just another way the honesty of the show comes through

Excellent points, Glenn. I would also add that it SHOULD also ground the callers into realizing they are being stupid. Unfortunately, as we have heard all too often on the show (in addition to seeing it in posts here on WB), idiocy knows no boundaries. Some of what I have seen and heard relative to the show proves to me that some people lack the willingness, desire or capability to learn. Then again, I suppose it's every person's God-given right to maintain a sub-moronic IQ....

One of the cornerstones of the show is it's honesty; you can't have that without acknowledging both sides. That being said, I don't think there's any reason to do it when the bit is strong - a weak one that's circling the drain, ok, yeah - but I'll agree that airing a bunch of troll horseshit during today's magic was, at the very least, some silly-goosery.

I don't think it is 'they.' It is mostly Jim. Even Ant has a zany WB name, so I don't think he necessarily has a problem with it. But Jim does have that comic thing where 99% of people love him and one ditch-digging New Jersey guido who doesn't ever shut the fuck up trashes him causing Jim to lose his mind and obsess over him. I like the callers too more than feedback because they often are exposed as the fucktards they really are.

DO THEY??? Today Opie called out a username from WackBag for shitting on the show via Instant Feedback. Apparently it was an imposter. Even more reason to stop doing it (even though the timing of it today wasn't that horrible). It's easy as fuck to be a douche bag imposter on instant feedback. For the person getting impersonated and then trashed by Opie live on the air really sucks. I see the person today it happened to didn't enjoy it.

I love idiots like the african american fellow today calling in because they make him look foolish. Some anonymous fucko who types in something and hits CLICK having the ability to bring a good bit to a grinding halt, that just stinks. Sure the bit starts up again, but it can change the mood, and take everyone including the listener out of it.

Sorry that's just my opinion. Opie today showed us that he is an evil brilliant person. I'm not shitting on Opie. He's amazing.
