I was wondering iff XM Canada and XM here in the states have a different lineup. There are a bunch off great bands in Canada that didn't get any play here for verious reasons, including the damn labels. Or do the same stations here broadcast different playlists there? I miss The Tea Party, Matthew Good (Band), 54-40, et al.

I'm up here in Canada, and I have 4 XM units and they are all grey units. I know for bands like Matt Good, Tea Party, the Hip, etc, you have to listen to 52 as it seems to be the only channel that plays them. Nickelback, Default, Thornley, Theory of a Deadman, Three Days Grace are all on Squizz. I know that on XM Canada there are quite a few less channels than on the US, hence why I have grey units

Doesn't XM have to play a certain amount of Canadian content to conform with some stupid Canuck laws?

Rush and Neil Young count towards the quota, so maybe thats why you don't hear so much of the newer stuff.

I don't know how it applies to XM, but I know the CRTC has made it so that radio stations up here have to play something like 45% Canadian content, and it has to be balanced through the day. The stations used to run it so that all the canadian content would be pretty much at night when no one was listening. For Rock and Country stations up here it's not a problem to come up with that 45%, but for Pop and Rap it's not so easy

I have a Canadian sub, and there are some extra chanels for CRTC shit. But the chanels that everyone actually listen to carry the same playlists.

What extra channels? My sub has the Canada 360, and the 2 or 3 french language channels that have the bandwidth of a 1997 webcast.

there aren't any extra channels, any of the Canadian Channels are also available on the US subs. The Canadian subs don't get Nascar, Golf, some of the spanish, rap, shit like that.

I heard about some new ones, but never checked into them. I only tune High Voltage and some of the rock channels.

I don't give a rats ass about canadian content.

I think that's what bothers me. Bands that are already established and are huge (or at least bi) in Canada and deserve to be in the states get played on the Verge. They are not on any verge. Moist/David Usher, OLP (before Bob Rock), The Tea Party/Jeff Martin, Headstones, Matthew Good (band), Watchmen, T-Hip all deserve to be played on a rock channel, like Ethel. Of course, since Kingston ruined that channel that's not going to happen.

I'd like to see one channel dedicated to Canadian Rock as well, there is more than enough of it to fill one channel, but I doubt it will ever happen.

Doesn't have to be dedicated, but at least include all of those great bands in heavier rotation than on the Verge. I tried calling in during the last Ask-E-Lo session on O&A but that was months ago. Maybe we should email him or someone else.
