Just wondering what the future will bring.

The future only brings DEATH.
EDIT:
I'm sure that xm has the option of renewing their contract first. If they don't it's because O&A want too much money. But I think that they want to keep XM. It's good for their souls.

You're assuming that they don't do something to get themselves kicked off of CBS before then.

i think if the boys would wait a year or two, then do something to get them kicked back off FM it would drive XM subs through the roof. Nothing like developing a huge audience and then having somewhere for them to follow you once you've pulled another stunt like S4S only larger.

I think the will be very careful not to get kicked off CBS. They are making way too much money.

I thought the XM contract was multi year (2008 or 2010 at this point)?
Too early to worry about if XM will renew the contract. How about will XM exist when the contract expires?

Why wish personal misfortune on the boys? Are a couple of swear words really worth them losing millions of dollars and the ability to interact in any way shape or form with the rest of the cultural landscape?

If they ever ditch XM it will alienate a lot of fans. Not a good idea.

I dont know, Im sure a lot of people started listening to O&A through XM, but mostly people got XM b/c they couldnt hear O&A anywhere else. I didn't like paying for xm but I also didnt like when they were off the air for 2 yrs. I realize things could never be exactly how I want them, but as long as theyre on the air Ill take O&A however I can get them

As long as I can get them up in Canada, I don't care if some FM station here picks them up, or they are on XM.

It is 2010 when their contract ends. They signed initially for 3 years and extended it by another 3 years when they did the CBS deal. They initially signed 10-4-04, meaning it will be almost 2011 by the time they need to think about it...i wouldnt worry about it now

The boys mentioned quite a few times at the beginning, that due to SFS, XM would only sign them to 1 year contracts. Since the CBS deal, I'm sure XM added a year or two. XM currently owns the boys, they just rent content to CBS.

O&A have been too good (as far as subs) to XM, for XM to let CBS to snatch up the contracts and syndicate the other way. I can't picture a drastic change from the way things are.
The only change... Jimmy the millionaire!

Maybe, but now they got the dumpout system that Howie complained about all those years, so I would figure it may never hit the airwaves now. And regardless of how crazy it gets at XM, they stay legal.

10-28-2006, 12:35 PM
By 2010 XM will probably be looking at 15 million subs, which will make it a very attractive place for the show.. unless cbs gives them 100 million, and the boys start calling it in..hoo hoo

Satellite Radio will always be a niche market. We have to accept that. My guess is CBS will buy the rights to the whole show and simulcast on XM like most of the other shows on XM.
Malice
10-28-2006, 08:28 PM
I think their days on XM are numbered it isnt hard to see which show the boys prefer, and which show gets the scraps from the table. While the CBS move was good for the boys, it was a bad deal for XM.

Or maybe they'll just renew.

We can worry all we want and it won't do anything for us but give us headaches. The boys are smart enough to do something destructive to what they've built so far. Sure the fatty pig fatty contest could've backfired but it hasn't. Opie has a destructive personality that could bury themselves but he hasn't done it yet so enjoy the ride I say and hope for a voice of reason when something potentially disastrous comes along.

Very close, but your analogy is off, XM isn't the therapist, its the mistress that they can fuck the shit out of to vent their frustrations and have a good time.
