OK, so I need to get my truck to pass inspection. I need a new reflector lens for one of my lights (i passed inspection with it broken 2 years ago, but whatever) and a new windshield...stupid hairline crack... and I'm broke.
So if that wasn't enough,
I also need 3 new tires.
My truck (2001 Dodge Dakota Sport) has a kind of rare tire size 255/65/R16 and my choices are very limited. As I said, I'm broke, so price is of the utmost importance to me. I drive about about 15 miles a day on the days that I work at both my jobs, and very rarely take long trips with the truck. Anyway, I was wondering if it was possible to use a different size tire without replacing the rims.... Right now I'm looking at about $400 for 3 tires, but if I could do it for $300, or even do all 4 for $400 (so I have them all the same, since the 4 I have now are all the same age, I'm sure I'll need to replace that 4th one sooner or later).
Anyway, I'm not that smart with the car stuff yet, but I'm learning, because if you don't learn you get *****.

TIRERACK.com or Costco...
Would of ordered from Costco buy they dont have tires for my fancy car.
Tirerack you can order them and have them shipped to one of the installers listed on there site.
my 4 tires cost me 900 with a digital alignment.

so I can order tires off tirerack.com and they will deliver them to the NTB dealer near me, or I can buy them for full price at the store? That is just weird.... :-)

For the windshield, go to Ben's Auto Glass in Bristol, PA on Farragut Avenue. They do alot with used glass. They can probably get you a windshield out of a junkyard. Glass is glass... who gives a shit? I went there when I needed back glass for my car about 10 years ago. Other places wanted like $300 installed. It was $100 installed there for a used piece.
Cheapest tires I found in that size were General Grabbers from Tirerack.com @ $72 each. You can usually get them delivered anywhere, and get them put on.

Yeah, I saw those too. Their closest recommended installer is an NTB dealer, and according to their website I think the same tires were like $115 each. Maybe I should call them and see if they will price match. They might as well get revenue for the tire sale if they are going to be installing them anyway. I should check to see if Best Buy has an employee accomodation deal with any of the tire places. I will definately check out the place you mentioned for glass. I don't care if its used. I was probably going to try to check junkyards for the reflector or whatever it is that I need. I think its going to be a bitch because its all one piece, with the headlight and everything. Or at least thats how it looks right now.

For the reflector, check this place out. They have always had what I needed:

the only part thats actually broken is the reflector part, the small white/clear part thats on the left. The orange turn signal part and the headlight part are fine, but they are all one piece.
I'm wondering if they really cost as much as this on ebay if I should take it someplace else and get it reinspected without showing my rejection form. Like I said before, I passed at least once, and I think twice, with it being broken. It's not an actual bulb or anything in there.

You can probably get a used part cheaper.

Well,Ha fucking ha,ha! No inspections where I live.Used to but the whole system was so corrupt they just quit.Right now I can get dual exhaust put on,no catalytic converter, glasspacks, loud as hell,no one cares. You guys back east get ***** every time you turn around!Taxes, fees, parking,I don't know what all.Make $100K and you're poor.
I recommend used tires also, some bigger places don't sell them cuz of liability issues, but a locally owned big tire store will have lots. You don't have to go back to original size either, just what will fit the wheel.Worst thing can happen, you're speedo will be off a little.Honesty works pretty good, tell the tire store the deal and they prolly know what to do.

I got a full set of (4) lightly used truck tires mounted & balanced for $125 a year ago at Discount Tire. They (and other chains) routinely get nearly-new tires from vehicles driven straight from the car lot to the Rim shop. Just tell the salesperson that your truck is on its way out so you don't want/need new tires and they should be able to hook you up.

As far as tires, I just scouted the net for a while, there isn't much there for that size. Looks like you will have to eat that. Same with the windshields. Cars suck.

Excellent. Next time in Illinois I will check that out :-D :action-sm I think I'm going to go to the NTB near me, and ask them if they will price match TireRack's price, since I could also just order them from tire rack and have them drop shipped there to get them installed by them anyway... this way I have new, decent tires.
