I have a friend that owns a security company, and he got the contract for the Guns n Roses concert this Friday. He wants me to work security. Trying to make my mind up if I want to or not. Anyone ever done it? Is it a big pain in the ass?

I had worked small venue's for concerts. I would think a smaller place would be tougher. But hey if the money is good why not, right. Pain in the ass No. Its kidda fun. Go for it.

If you get the opportunity to injure Axl, will you take it?

That is the one reason I don't want to go. I don't think I can handle hearing him. It depends on how much cash it is. It is under the table, just a matter of how much at this point. I will find out in the morning how much.

It's not that bad unless it's a band that has a history of having riots break out their shows..........like Guns N' Roses.

I've worked many shows over the years.

It is worth the money but you always need to know where your backup is. You can get into trouble real quick in a concert venue.

Try not to be that "DICK" security guy that we have all been exposed to at one point in our lives. Also, when you decide to toss someone, get them out ASAP. Don't talk to them, or reason with them, just toss them. That way they can't recruit their 20 friends to gang up on you.

Have fun & as always, "GOOD LUCK BRO"!

I participated (in a small way) in the last Guns n Roses riot in Philly in December 2002.

If a riot breaks out, just leave. Even the cops didn't try to stop it.

If you are using radio communication, and you are in the barrier expect to not be able to hear anyone. You are pretty much on your own, depending on the crowd (ie. crowd surfing), in which case you and the people working with you should expect to get kicked, poked, elbowed a bunch of times. It is fun though. (Just don't stab anyone rushing the stage. Thats not cool.)

The Philly riot was fun. My friends and I climbed up from the floor into a box and raided a fridge.
Calling my at the time ex from there got me back together with her(I got caught drunk, hooking up with another girl).

Were you one of the guys stealing barstools from the brewpub by chance?

I was on the upper deck so I was limited to throwing seat cushions I could rip up to the floor level, and asking people for their beers to throw down.

Not to mention Ax-hole won't want to go onstage until probably midnight, and the crowd will be pissed by then...sounds like a fun gig.

If you are referring to the people burning up, that was Great White.

I didn't end up doing it last night, as I was sick a fucking dog. Woke up yesterday morning feeling like shit, and by noon I was done.

I've only been witness to one riot at a concert, during Jane's Addiction show at the Tower Theatre in 1990. They played like 10 songs the Perry was pissed at the audience (also high as a fucking kite) they told the audience to go fuck themselves, left the stage. The crowd ran outside and tried to tip over the tour bus parked next to the theatre. It was total friggin lawlessness, the cops basically just stood by and watched it happen until about 50 reinforcements showed up than it was everyman for himself. Security were like "ok, whatever" couldn't say I blamed them.

You should have seen how pissed the crowd was for the Philly GnR show. Poor Mix Master Mike had to play for over an hour to stall. I'm pretty sure he had more than one beer thrown on his dj equipment from the upper decks.

Security work is ok, but I worked one event I didn't care for, Public Enemy. I am white, with a flattop. Wasn't a great night for me.

Favorite toss was a guy who ran up on a small venue stage (about 2k) and started dancing in front of meatloaf's singers. Dude got freaky and started bowing/praying. We picked him up and ran toward the panic emergency doors backstage. We thought we would use him to swing the doors open. we were carrying him like a ladder with the 3 of us, head first. The doors didn't open. Dude yells. Doors didn't open the next two times either, apparently, the doors were locked by someone. Makes me laugh to this day.
