Obviously, there's 3 choices.
Nintendo Wii
Playstation 3
and
XBox 360

PS3 won't have enough units to be the best selling system, no matter how popular it is. There just isn't enough supply.
If people buy the Wii like they buy the DS, it will beat the 360. Otherwise, the 360 remains king of next-gen for at least another year.

It'll be a toss up between the 360 and Wii. The 360 has a bit more punch to it, and appropriately, it's a bit more expensive. Wii has the new controller, HUGE amount of games to choose from for a launch, and the Nintendo name brand.
Sony shit the bed months ago. I hope there's plenty of news video of colored gentlemen "purchasing" PS3's from the nearest Wal Mart circulating Youtube by the time Christmas comes around.

In terms of volume Wii will win because of low cost and high availability.

Base price for best set-up
PS3 = $600
X-Box 360 = $400
Wii = $250
Price with 2 games, one extra controller, and one memory card where applicable(Prices for accessories taken from gamestop.com)
PS3
$600+$120+$40=$760
X-Box 360
$400+$120+$50+$40=$610
Wii
$250+$50+$60+$100=$460
Now, Nintendo haters may wonder why I only put $50 for two games for the Wii. thats because every Wii will come included with a copy of Wii Sports in the box. That's right, Nintendo is harking back to ye oldern days by including a game with console purchase.
Lack of memory card link on PS3 pages of gamestop is why there is one less price for the PS3. But potentially add an additional $30 to that if the $40 for the controller does not include a charger. I assumed it did, hence why I didn't add that on. the $60 for an extra Wii controller is for both halves. Prices were not available on gamestop, but I seem to recall reading somewhere else that the Wiimote was gogin to run $40, and a nunchuck add-on was running $20. And the $100 memory card is for a 2 gig model
Now, obviously subtract $100 from either the PS3 or the 360 if you don't want the top model, but that's still $660 or $510 respectively.
Also add on the fact the the Wii is not HD ready, so even poor bastards like me with no HDTV can enjoy the graphics as best they will be. And if spending the $760 per se on a PS3 and you don't have an HDTV, add on about $1000 for a cheap HDTV. Hmm, $460 sure sounds a lot better than $1760 to me. But then again, I am not a fancy, rich man.
EDIT: Oh, and incase you couldn't tell, I say the WIi will win this holiday season.

I see the Wii selling almost double any other console on the market this Christmas. I don't think it will be close honestly. The 360 might actually hang with the PS3 due to the lack of supply. The high costs of the PS3 won't keep it from being sold out everywhere this year, but eventually it will hurt the system by mid-2007.

360 will get the biggest numbers due to a strong line up of games (gears of war mostly) and availability....yet it will not be where microsoft wishes it was...
wii and ps3 will sell out...meaning a few million more wii's
wii will perhaps sell the most games though...which is the real winner money wise

i'm thinking the battle is between the wii and the ps3. ps3 has a strong following and sparked the interest of high tech geeks that will also own a blue-ray player if the purchase the ps3. Plus, their online service is free
The soccer moms + goofy gamers that feel the need to wave a wand around + nintendo loyals + cheap mofo's = nintendo $$.

...I'm surprised most of you think the 360 will do so poorly. Its got a year worth of extra titles, the kinks have been worked out (I'm sure lots of people don't buy brand new electronics in fear of being stuck with a lemon), and is significantly cheaper than a ps3, but the graphics are significantly better than a wii.
Yes, I know graphics aren't everything. In the end though, its what sells games/consoles.

^All the kinks have been worked out? They released a firmware upgrade less than a week ago that bricked consoles (non-modded mind you).

Fact: There is no battle between PS3 and Wii or PS3 and 360 this Christmas. Unarguable.
PS3 will be in SUCH limited supply (under 400,000 in all of North America) that it will obviously sell out (if it didn't, it would be a huge failure). No matter what, it will sell out.
360 will sell well because of the great lineup and many people will get it over the PS3, which they can't find.
Wii could easily be the "second console" for everyone and an easy impulse buy for everyone else. It should have high quantities at launch and after, so it should sell very well.
^All the kinks have been worked out? They released a firmware upgrade less than a week ago that bricked consoles (non-modded mind you).
yeah... that update has more or less reminded me that they seem to be in a never ending cycle of having their heads up their asses. I think if Sony can keep the initial system and all the updates smooth, they might bury the 360 eventually. It might really swing alot of developers back into sony's court.

i cannot fucking wait for the wii. i was thinking about freezing myself for the next few weeks to speed up time.
zelda and metroid will be available at the launch correct?

Well not an online gamer per say. So those issues do not appeal to me..from what I have seen the Xbox 360 will do well. Mind you I like games that you do not need to be online to enjoy. Two reasons...1) I don't like games that you HAVE to do with other people...
2)I bought the game to play and enjoy it all the way through...making a game that forces me to go and play online, (and pay again) to get the ending really pisses me off.

Zelda will be but sadly metroid will not. Metroid will be released around the beginning of February.
Less than 2 weeks to go!!!!!

Wii wins, no contest.
It's the new "toy" for the holiday season, will have 4 million+ out by the end of the year, has a ridiculous launch lineup (especially comparatively), is inexpensive and has the most diverse and therefore largest possible customer base.
360 at this point is a great console when you add everything up but it's going to be hard it to compete with that thunder. It still gets holiday sales + PS3 leftover customers; nothing to laugh at of course.
I'd be willing to say that the Wii may even outsell the DS.
As for the PS3...wow. Sorry Sony. Better luck next year. You'd think it would be a lot more difficult to screw up with such a track record and amount of experience behind you. I think even the PSP will do better and that's not because of lack of a better product...it's because of lack of supply of a better product.
For those with limited attention spans like myself, my prediction for total sales:
1) Wii
2) DS
3) 360
4) PSP
5) PS3
That last spots debatable, but I'll just put PS3 dead last out of spite for Sony's sheer arrogance surrounding the entire system.

if you own the premium xbox 360 why are you spending an extra 40 on a memory card? it's unnecessary
EDIT: was just reading, i'm sure this isn't any breaking news, but sony cut their projected release date ps3's for north america to 400k, and only 80k in japan.

Yeah that was news to those who actually give a damn a few weeks back. Just wait till everyone else who's not a dildo wielding sociopath finds out come November 17th.
I'm picturing a post-apocalyptic roadway littered with half destroyed, soccer stickered minivans, make-a-wish tampons for the respective menopausal drivers, and various scattered middle aged female body parts (i.e. bunts, etc.).

Okay, maybe if I wanted to bring my stats on Madden '07 or some other game over to a friends house. I might want to be able to do that without dragging my whole system or hard drive. That's why you would want a memory card.
Or maybe becaus ehow many times people are complaining about their 360's fucking up on them, needing to buy a whole new hard drive when you were just an hour or so away from beating a game.
Yeah, who needs a memory card? :icon_roll

If you know anything, it's the Wii. They will have the most units available. 360 will be second. Only god damn rich cunts will buy their kids a ps3 at that price.

I doubt the Wii and the PS3 will have enough units out to outsell the 360.
Especially when you consider that most big title games are now cross-platform (Madden, etc), as long as the console is available on the shelf, it'll sell.

I would love to have both a playstation 3 and a Wii, but since I have to feed my family will only get a Wii. I will get a playstation 3 when the price drops a while from now, Resistance The Fall of Man just looks too awsome to pass up

The fact that Resistance takes place in WWII era makes it all the more appealing. Too often (a.k.a all the time) Alien FPS games are versus modern weaponry.

Can Resistance be played with a mouse and keyboard? I read that the PS3 can support USB keyboard and mice day one. Resistance will be a waste playing on a controller.

Well I can only hope it comes out for PC. I'm sure as hell not paying 700 bucks to play it.

I read it won't be supported in single player (but the article says nothing about online play). Too bad, another FPS goes to waste.
